Die Schokoladenbranche hat im vierten Quartal des Jahres traditionell Hochkonjunktur. Die Weihnachtszeit hat einen Anteil am Schokoladengeschäft von mehr als 18 Prozent. Der Branchenumsatz liegt nach den ersten 22 Kalenderwochen bei 1 804,2 Millionen Euro und damit um 4,1 Prozent niedriger als im vergleichbaren Vorjahreszeitraum. Weltmarktführer im Industrie-Schokoladengeschäft ist das Schweizer Unternehmen Barry Callebaut. Im Premiumsegment ist Lindt & Sprüngli Marktführer.
