WINTER’S WEB by Jennifer Estep Gin Blanco, Pork Pit cook by day, and assassin known as the Spider by night, along with her significant other, Owen, agrees to participate in a Ren-faire to benefit charity. Gin steps quite a bit out of her comfort zone to role play with Owen and their friends. Since Gin has many enemies, she is not surprised when all the fun turns deadly, except this time, there is someone dear to her whose life is at stake. As Gin deals in death by trade, new readers should expect a high level of Urban Fantasy style violence. Fans of Ms. Estep will enjoy seeing their favorites in this new adventure. A WILDERNESS OF GLASS by Grace Draven This high fantasy tale of a musically gifted village woman, Brida Gazi, a widow who lives by the sea that is her livelihood as well as responsible for taking the life of her husband delivers all of my favorite elements of magic, myth, and romance. When Brida discovers a creature in desperate need, her whole life changes in a way that rekindles her broken heart, but also comes with great danger. Brida is kind, selfless, and though life has held great sorrow, she gives of herself asking nothing in return; however, the perilous risk Brida takes fills her heart once again in a way she thought lost forever to the sea. Ms. Draven’s lyrical and often haunting writing will turn new readers into fans and deeply satisfy those who are familiar with her work. A CURSE FOR SPRING by Amanda Bouchet In this enchanting tale of a land where magic can do great good or evil, Prince Daric and his family have been under a curse that has withheld Spring rains from their land every year no matter how much prayer and supplication they make to the goddess, Braylian. Out of desperation, Daric as a young boy standing in front of Braylian’s Cauldron, calls her daughter, Spring, bringing her into his world. Now grown up and the best of friends and perhaps more, Daric and Rain, the once goddess and now a magical human, are being forced into an untenable situation caused by the decidedly evil Queen of a nearby kingdom. Daric and Rain would give anything, make any sacrifice, to avoid this heartbreaking fate. Ms. Bouchet, as always, weaves a well told tale with a good balance of action, adventure, and romance. This captivating story will leave readers well pleased and wanting more from this compelling couple. THE DRAGONS OF SUMMER by Jeffe Kennedy Queen Ursula’s unofficial consort, Harlan Konyngrr, faces two very difficult challenges. He and Ursula have been preparing for an epic battle against usurpers. An old sorrow comes back into Harlan’s life that threatens his relationship with the woman he loves. Bound by a vow, the information Harlan has kept from Ursula could serve to undo them causing devastation and heartbreak. Adding to that, another man has interest in Ursula for a political alliance. Fans of the series will be pleased to find a happy, long desired surprise amidst all this talk of war and strife. Ms. Kennedy’s heroines are fierce warriors who match their equally courageous men in strength and determination to not shy away from whatever life throws at them. This anthology of Fantasy and Urban Fantasy adds much to the works of these gifted writers and will give new readers a taste of their fine talent. Ms. Bouchet’s story is a standalone while the tales from Ms. Draven, Ms. Kennedy, and Ms. Estep are connected to some of their other series.

Winter’s Web by Jennifer Estep This is a novella that takes place in Estep’s wonderful world of her Elemental Assassin series. Anything even short, is a must read for me, because we get more time to spend with Gin Blanco, our spider assassin heroine. In Winter’s Web, Gin and the gang (Owen, Bria, Finn, Sophie) all attend in costume the renaissance faire. Gin isn’t thrilled to be in costume, but she is determined to have fun. Of course, anywhere Gin goes there is bound to be problems. At the faire, she watches a woman that marvels the crowd with her sword expertise, and before the day is out, Gin is face to face with a dangerous enemy, who is out to kill someone she loves. We have come to know that Gin will go through hell and back to save those she loves. This was an exciting, action- packed short story that I savored from start to finish. I will not tell too much more, as it would be spoilers. If you are an Elemental Assassin fan, you need to read this and enjoy the fun. A Curse for Spring by Amanda Bouchet I looked forward to reading this short story, since I had read and loved Bouchet’s last series. Prince Daric is desperate to save his land, the Kingdom of Leathen. They have been in a catastrophic drought for many years, and now they face losing their land to another kingdom. Rain, our heroine, has lived with Daric and his family for many years, since they pulled her out of a magic weather mist; she was a goddess of Spring, and is now human. With the threat of having to merge Leathen with the enemy kingdom, as well as marry the enemy’s Queen’s daughter, Daric desperately needs to find a way to break the water curse, and save his family. He and Rain, who have come to fall in love with each other over the years, go on a journey that will change their lives and destiny. I loved Rain and Daric together, and this was a heartwarming quick fun story, that had moments of sadness. The Dragons of Summer by Jeffe Kennedy This story revolves around our hero, Harlan, who is the consort of the High Queen, Ursula. With war on the horizon, Harlan, who is also head of security, is extra cautious protecting his Queen. We learn quickly that Harlan and Ursula are lovers, but she also knows he is keeping secrets of his past, that threaten their relationship. When members of the Queen’s team arrive to help plan on stopping the attack, Harlan loses his cool with some of the members of his family and must decide to reveal to Ursula his secrets of his past or lose her for good. What follows is a wonderful story where Harlan’s family betrayed him and his sister years before, and when he explains the terrible truth about his sister, Ursula is fully by his side. As the group put differences aside, Harlan will come to terms with his brother and together they will all prepare to fight for survival in this war. It is a wonderful story of family, love, loyalty, betrayal, with excellent characters, sexy romance and dragons. A Wilderness of Glass by Grace Draven Brida Gazi, our heroine, is a flute player with elements of magic. When Brida plays her flute with others from her town at a Lord’s party, a stranger accosts her. The stranger wants to know where she got the flute, which was created by her brother, using a bone found by the ocean. When she walks during the evening by the ocean she comes across two strange species badly injured. Brida will try to save them, and use her flute to communicate with sea creatures. What follows is a sweet

I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to read these stories and happily say I think fans will not be disappointed. Winters Web by Jennifer Estep So what could possibly go wrong at a renaissance faire ? It's not as if Owen actually remembers trying to get tickets ! With our favourite assassin around being her paranoid best you would think most would give Gin a wide berth but maybe this time she's got it all wrong ? If you follow this series you will expect deceit and death and won't be disappointed . A Curse For Spring By Amanda Bouchet This warm fantasy type romance sees a kingdom under a curse and literally having to sell everything they own in order to survive. Daric is the Prince being bartered away and forced into what would be a truly diabolical marriage. Yet Spring might not be that far away as Rain who was once a powerful Goddess will sacrifice anything to help the people she has learnt to love. The Dragons Of Summer By Jeffe Kennedy A journey back in many ways to the couple that started this authors epic series. A consort keeping secrets from his Queen was always going to be a bad idea and Harlan faces hard truths amidst all manner of challenges. A face from his past, enemies at the gates but even more worrying it looks like there's a rival for Ursula's hand ! A Wilderness Of Glass By Grace Draven If you've enjoyed the Wraith Kings series then you know to expect pure fantasy that will whisk you away and this story had surprises in spades. Brida is a widow struggling to survive on the bounty she can harvest from the Sea. What she never expected was to have her world turned upside down as old legends suddenly become very real. This woman who had given up on love opens her heart but as everyone knows when it comes to the Sea you can never be certain what will happen next. I absolutely loved this book with its wonderful mixture of romance, action and at times emotion that tugged on my heart. Each story was strong enough to capture my imagination but obviously I do have a favourite. The problem with short stories is that sometimes they can perhaps end abruptly but I guess that just leaves the reader ready to dive into whatever comes next. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed if they buy this and I'm so happy that there are authors of this calibre in the world. This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
