Dick Simmons was born in Ionia, Michigan where he attended grade school and high school. He attended Ferris State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance.
Since his graduation from college, he lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He joined several accounting firms before joining an international accounting firm in 1970. In 1975, he became a partner in the firm and in 1998 he became a member of their Board of Directors.
While serving as a partner, he represented some of the firm's major clients His business travel covered the United States and many European countries.
In 2005, he retired and now resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Bonita Springs,Florida. His primary interest today includes travel, golf, investment strategies and writing.
