Kellan James is unwinding at Score when he spots the last person he’d ever expect to find in his favorite bar. Sara Connelly—ER nurse, do-gooder, charitable crusader, and frequent pain in his ass. Both grew up privileged in swanky Southampton, but that’s where the similarities end. Kellan’s made it his mission to seek out life’s pleasures; Sara gains pleasure from lecturing him on his lifestyle. Kellan would never date someone like her. Ever.
But when Kellan discovers Sara’s been stood-up by an online date, something fierce and protective awakens inside of him. Typically, Kellan would enjoy teasing the jilted Sara, but something in her face sends him over to her table with a plan. He encourages her to take a walk on the wild side, one weekend of sin, no holds barred.
She accepts, but it quickly becomes apparent that one night isn’t enough. As the pull between them grows stronger, Kellan discovers it’s a very dangerous thing to say never.

Kellan James leaned back in his chair and sighed. It had been a hell of a week at work, so he'd been only too happy to accept the invitation to kick back a few beers at the sports bar Score with his best friend Josh and a couple of colleagues from the hospital.
The Board of Directors for the hospital was breathing down his neck to cut costs, the local newspaper had done an exposé on the slow response times in the ER, and his Chief Nursing Officer had quit. That last problem wouldn't be such a big deal if he could talk his friend Sara Connelly into taking the damn job, but the woman had a bad attitude when it came to hospital administration. She'd told him in no uncertain terms she would never cross over to the dark side with him.
She was talented and bright and completely wasted in the emergency room. He'd tried — without success — to get her into better positions in the hospital, but she constantly dug in her heels. Told him she was happy where she was. Which meant she was going to be pissed as hell after the meeting he'd called for Monday with the ER staff. He'd tried for months to get that department into shape. Now it was time to play hardball. Some heads were going to roll if they didn't speed things up. Wait times were getting out of hand.
He rubbed his eyes wearily, glancing toward the pool table. Josh was in a pissing contest with one of the other guys about their skills, and they'd put twenty bucks on the game. Ordinarily Kellan would have taken them on as well, joining in the fun, but he wasn't in the mood tonight.
There was a cute blonde sitting at the bar who was giving him an inviting look. He considered going over and buying her a drink but his heart wasn't in it.
Shit. He really was in a funk. Usually he was better at leaving his work at the office. If he weren't, his job as CEO of Hampton General Hospital would have chewed him up and spit him out already. That was what it had done to his two predecessors.
However, tonight he was failing in the attempt.
He had just decided to call it a night when he caught a glimpse of Sara sitting in a corner booth alone. It wasn't unusual to run into her at Score. After all, the bar was located directly across from the hospital, so it was the watering hole of choice for most of the medical and administrative staff.
What struck him was that she was alone and looking hot as shit. Sara was a low maintenance girl. He never saw her in anything other than minimal makeup, ponytail, and scrubs at work. Even at their bimonthly dinner with their high school friends, the only thing she traded was the loose-fitting work attire for T-shirts and jeans.
Tonight she'd clearly gone to quite a bit of effort. Kellan tried to recall the last time he had seen her dark auburn hair down like that. Then he remembered — it had been at the holiday work social a couple of years ago. They ran in similar circles so they were always attending the same events — be it work or personal. The long, thick mass of waves curled over her shoulders in a way that made a man itch to run his fingers through it. Of course, he hadn't taken the time to appreciate it the night of that party as he'd been out with Monique Rossiter, a Victoria's Secret model.
It struck him as odd that the memory of Monique didn't distract him from the image of Sara right now. While he'd always thought his friend was passably pretty, she'd never really taken his breath away.
Tonight, she did.
Her bright, lively blue eyes were outlined with that black stuff women wore all the time, the thick lashes accentuating their pretty shape, making them sparkle.
Her porcelain skin stood out in contrast to her darkened eyes and the shiny pink gloss she'd tinted her lips with. He had never — not once in his life — pondered kissing those lips, but now that she'd drawn his attention to them, Kellan wondered what it would be like. He bet she tasted sweet.
All these years, he'd always seen Sara as a sister-type more than fuckable-type.
Unfortunately, his thoughts at the moment had nothing to do with brotherly interest. Jesus. He had a hard-on just looking at her. Josh would have a field day with that information, and he was glad his friend was still distracted at the pool table.
Kellan took a deep breath as he willed the attraction away. For one thing, he was her boss, and for another ... well, for another, this was freaking Sara. Sitting here undressing her with his eyes and imagining all the sounds he'd provoke from her between the sheets as he slid down her ... Shit. Clearly he was overtired. He closed his eyes and reconsidered approaching the blonde at the bar.
No. He knew how to set things straight.
Rising from his seat, he walked over to Sara. Once she started talking to him, he felt certain his dick would return to "down boy" mode. Though they were good friends, Sara had a tone — a mixture of annoyed and amused — that she reserved strictly for him. Of course, she'd probably accuse him of the same. Only his special tone for her would be equal parts condescending and playful.
He wolf-whistled as he approached her table. She glanced up and instantly rolled her eyes.
"What are you doing here?"
He grinned as he scooted into the booth. "It's Friday night. Thought I'd come unwind and check out the potential hook-up action."
With one eyebrow raised, she gave him a very pointed look. "I'm not the droid you're looking for. Move along."
He and Sara had very little in common, but on Star Wars they could agree.
Kellan laughed. "No worries there, Scrubs." He gestured toward the blonde at the bar, even though he had no intention of talking to the other woman. "I've spotted my prey for the evening."
He'd taken to calling her Scrubs shortly after she received her RN license, hoping to annoy her with the nickname until she traded in the damn uniform for professional attire and an administrative role. Unfortunately, the more he used it, the more she seemed to like it — and take it to heart.
Sara studied his choice and smirked. "Typical. What is it with you and blondes?"
"I'm not partial." If asked, he'd have to say he preferred her hair color tonight, the way the lighting in the bar brought out the million different shades of red in her auburn tresses. He swallowed heavily.
Sara. This was Sara. Stop looking at her damn hair.
"I'm sure all the bimbos on the planet will be relieved to hear that."
Kellan picked up a lock of her hair, unable to resist seeing if it was as soft as it looked. No one had ever accused him of being too practical. In fact, he was far too impulsive when it came to physical attraction. "What's up with the hair and makeup?"
She blushed, something Sara rarely did. The response sparked his interest even more.
"None of your business," she said, glancing toward the door.
"Waiting for someone?" he pressed, wishing he'd never touched her hair. God, it was like silk. And it smelled good, too.
"Again, none of your business."
"Who is he?"
"What will it take to get you to go away?"
He picked up her glass of wine and took a sip before she grabbed it from him. "Answer my questions."
"I'm meeting a man here for drinks."
"Must be quite a guy. Is that a new dress?" She was wearing a slinky red number that left little to the imagination. And Kellan had a very active imagination. The neckline plunged enough to give him a generous view of her cleavage, and as he glanced down, he confirmed it was short, revealing her very trim, tanned legs. Sara hid one hell of a package underneath those nursing scrubs. What a waste.
"Yes. Will you leave now? He'll be here any minute, and I really don't want you at the table when he shows up."
His curiosity was piqued. Typically, he stayed out of Sara's personal affairs, catching nothing more than the tidbits she dropped now and then. He'd liked David, her longtime boyfriend, and had been surprised when the two of them split. Though Sara said it was mutual, Kellan was pretty sure it was David who'd done the dumping. Especially when he married that other woman so soon after the breakup. Since then, he hadn't heard about Sara dating anyone. "So, who is this Prince Charming?"
"No one you know."
"That's interesting, considering we know all the same people. Where did you meet him?"
Sara glanced toward the door again and then down at her phone. "I would really prefer to be sitting here alone when he arrives. Go annoy the blonde."
Kellan chuckled as he rose. "I'll give you a reprieve. For now. Good night, Sara. Don't do anything I wouldn't do."
"That leaves my evening wide open," she muttered, prompting him to laugh.
He started to bail on the rest of the night, his gaze set on the exit, and then decided to return to his table. He was curious to see what type of man Sara was interested in. And what was even more unnerving was his even stronger need to make sure the guy was okay. He'd never felt overly protective of Sara before, but she hadn't dated in a while. Kellan could spot a shark from a mile away, and as a friend, he owed it to her to make sure she wasn't hanging out with the wrong sort of guy, the kind who was only looking to get laid.
He grinned as he realized most brothers and fathers probably considered him the wrong sort of guy. It was funny to find himself on the other side of the equation, looking out for the woman.
"Hey," Josh said, returning to the table. "There's Sara." As he said her name, she looked up, and the two of them exchanged a wave. "Let's invite her over."
Kellan put a hand on his friend's arm. "She's got a date meeting her here."
"Oh." Josh and the other guys reclaimed their seats, the four of them ordering another round, arguing over who was going to take the World Series, and engaging in an interesting discussion on craft beers.
An hour passed, but Sara's mystery date never arrived. She nursed the same glass of wine, and when it was gone, she motioned for the check.
She'd been stood up.
Josh had moved to the bar, chatting with the blonde woman, so Kellan threw some cash on the table and bid his other friends good night. He walked back to Sara. She was just about to rise, but closed her eyes and blew out an exasperated breath when he reclaimed his same spot in the booth.
"Please. Just don't," she said. She looked tired and upset.
"Tease me. I'm feeling like a big enough fool as it is. I just want to go home."
Kellan frowned. "God, Sara. I'm not an asshole. I actually stopped by for this guy's name. I wouldn't mind paying him a little visit. Teach him a lesson about what happens to the jerkoff who hurts one of my friends."
She smiled tremulously. "Wow. That was probably the nicest thing you've ever said to me."
He grinned. "You just caught me on an off night."
"He was someone I met online."
Kellan frowned. "Please tell me you didn't sign up for one of those online dating sites."
She crossed her arms. "Dating isn't exactly an easy gig."
He was perplexed. He never had any trouble meeting women. "Of course it is. Take Josh for instance. You go to a bar, strike up a conversation and — "
"I said dating, not hooking up," she interjected. "Big difference. Not that I'd expect you to understand that."
It was a jab, and he felt the sting. He let her have it. She was angry and looking for an outlet.
"Oh, God. That was rude, especially when ..." She stopped, leaving off whatever she was about it say, and started again. "You're being nice, and I'm acting like a bitch." Her gaze returned to Josh. "Thought you wanted the blonde."
He shook his head. "Changed my mind."
She reached for her purse. "I should go home. I'm not going to be very good company tonight."
Kellan reached for her wrist, halting her escape. He wasn't sure what prompted the action. Ordinarily, he would have just let her go. But there was something in her eyes, something so sad that he couldn't let her walk away.
Sara Connelly was hands down the toughest chick he knew. She was a no-nonsense ballbuster with a heart the size of Texas. And for his entire life, she'd been his conscience, the disapproving little voice in the back of his head that kept him somewhat honest.
He'd seen her pissed off, touched, happy, frustrated, annoyed, and drunk. What he hadn't seen was this — full of sadness and self-doubt. It bothered him. A lot.
"Stick around a little while. The night is still young."
"Kellan," she started to refuse, but he wasn't letting her go home. Not like this.
He tightened his grip on her wrist. "You want to figure out how to meet people? You've come to the right place. I happen to be an expert."
"It's not going to happen tonight."
"You're right. The date isn't going to happen, but you also said you wanted to meet eligible men. You want to figure out how to attract the attention of the opposite sex. I can help with that."
Sara glanced at the chesty blonde woman still sitting at the end of the bar with Josh. He'd clearly just bought her a drink, and chances were very good the two of them were going to go home together. "I'm never going to look like that."
Kellan studied the other woman, then Sara. "No one said you had to."
"Let me clarify. I don't want to pay a lot of money to look like that."
He looked at the blonde and narrowed his eyes. "Wait. Are you saying those aren't real?"
Sara laughed. "Seriously, Kellan? Given the amount of time you spend with those particular things, you would think you'd start to get a feel for real versus fake."
He lifted one shoulder. "Not sure it makes that much of a difference. They're fun either way."
"Yeah, well, there's no way I have enough money for boobs like that. Or even enough upper body strength to lug them around. So I guess I'm screwed."
He snorted. "Upper body strength?"
"Those things aren't exactly lightweight, you know."
"Do I want to know how you know that?"
She grinned. "Guys aren't the only ones who talk about boobs. I have plenty of well-endowed friends. One night, after a few glasses of wine, two girlfriends got into a contest to see whose weighed the most. I was the judge."
"Do me a favor. Invite me the next time you go out with those women."
Sara lightly punched him on the shoulder. "Perv."
He shook his head, wondering how she always managed to distract him from what he intended to say. It wasn't unusual for her to veer into these silly side conversations until he forgot what they were talking about. "My point is you look fine just the way you are. Hell, you look fucking hot tonight. With your hair down and" — he pointed at her breasts — "that dress, it's a wonder every guy in the place hasn't hit on you."
Sara leaned back in her seat, glancing down at her own cleavage. "I can't decide if that was an insult or a compliment."
Kellan bit back his laughter. "I meant it as a compliment."
"Yeah. I thought so. That's why I'm letting it slide. But the hard truth is I've been sitting here alone in an outfit I had hoped would spark some sort of attraction between my date and me. Instead, he's a no-show, and not one man has approached me in the last hour, not to chat or to buy me a drink or to make an indecent proposal."
Kellan considered her comments and realized she'd lied to him. "You said you weren't interested in a hookup. But it sounds like that's exactly why you're here."
She shrugged. "The reason I'm here doesn't matter. Apparently I'm not the kind of woman men want to take home for wild, kinky sex."
Kellan's cock woke up and took notice, going rock hard in record time. Tonight was the first time he'd ever considered what it would be like to take Sara to bed. Now that she'd said two of his favorite adjectives in the English language, he couldn't think of anything else.
A gentleman would have put those desires in a vault, locked them up, and melted the key. After all, they were friends. She'd been the girl next door when they were growing up, and now she was an employee. Hooking up with Sara would be a bad idea.
Unfortunately, he had never mastered the art of being a gentleman, and it wasn't uncommon for him to think with the wrong head.
He forced himself to concentrate on their conversation, to stop fixating on the word kinky. Or wild. Wild was a pretty distracting word, too.

Hotness Rating 3 out of 5 I don't even know where to begin with Seducing the Boss by Mari Carr. I think it's safe to say we've all read the best friend turns lover trope at one time or another. Seducing the Boss isn't reinventing this storyline, but it does give us a fast paced, sexy read that you won't want to put down. Well, except to maybe grab the fire extinguisher. This couple generates sparks in a big way. Kellan James is such a likable character considering he's a womanizing workaholic. In his defense his womanizing does not include misleading innocent women into thinking he wants more than a night or two between the sheets. He's a man who breaks into cold sweats at the thought of settling down, but enjoys having a woman when the mood strikes. And the mood strikes a lot! I not only respected Sara as a woman, but as a nurse. She was everything a nurse should strive to be. I loved that she was a no-nonsense take charge kind of woman, but knew how to be soft when the situation warranted it. She was the perfect counterpart for Kellan balancing him in a way that no other woman really could. This romance had tons of obstacles that seemed insurmountable. Kellan was her friend since early childhood and if that's not enough he's also her boss. You would think these things would be enough to keep two intelligent people away from starting anything intimate that could come back to bite them in the end. However, when Kellan saw Sara at the bar and considered her as something other than his best friend Scrubs (the nickname he uses for her which I adore) he can't seem to think about anything else. It didn't take him too much persuasion to convince Sara that a weekend of unadulterated passion between them and then back to life as is was just what they needed. My heart hurt for Kellan as he waded through his past and faced the demons that made him feel the way he does about relationships. I applauded Sara however. She stood her ground and refused to compromise on what she deserved. This book is a definite must read. I am so sad that it's over.
Friends to lovers is one of my favorite troupes. Add in a sexy, strong, feisty heroine, a strong, yet complicated hero, and a proposition of a weekend of sex between the two and you have the ingredients for an amazing story! I can’t begin to explain how much I enjoyed reading it! The chemistry was off the charts and so combustible. Kellan and Sara have been friends since their childhood. Their parents are still friends and Sara has dinner with Kellan’s family, regularly. When Kellan sees Sara in a sexy dress sitting all alone at the local bar, his inner protector comes out. He finds out that she was stood up by someone she met online and offers to make her weekend wild. Thinking that is all it would take to get her out of his skin, he convinces her that he will play out all of her fantasies and make all of her wild and wicked dreams come true. But, the lothario didn’t realize he would be the one left cold and alone after she goes back to her everyday life and he is left pining for the woman who got away. Again, the chemistry between Kellan and Sara is so amazing! They work together, grew up together, and share mutual friends. He is the CEO of the hospital and Sara is an ER nurse. He has always tried to get her to join the administrative team, but she much prefers helping the patients and doing what she was trained to do. Their illustrious weekend spills over into work and creates some conflict for the coworkers/friends/lovers. It kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting more from this couple! I was pleasantly surprised by the ending and enjoyed where this story went. As a quick read, it was easily devoured in one sitting. I have been a fan of this particular author and this book did not disappoint at all! *reviewed for Crystal's Many Reviewers. Copy provided for review.
"Seducing the Boss" by Mari Carr is book number two in the "Pulse" series. This is Kellan James and Sara Connelly's story. Kellan and Sara have been friends for most of their life and her boss at the hospital where they work. Their friendship has never crossed the line until one night things change. It is meant to be just a hookup and to allow Sara to let loose and enjoy herself. The more time they spend with each it gets harder and harder for the both of them to see this as just a hookup. Will they risk their friendship and work relationship to take a chance on love? There is a lot of graphic hot intimate scenes. In the second half of the book you get a story to go with why they never hooked up before and why they could be perfect for each other. This was an okay read for me. FYI, includes graphic mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Seducing the Boss was a hot and surprisingly sweet little gem. While I think the title is not at all fitting, the story I found entertaining and engaging. Sara and Kellan work at the same hospital, while she is an ER nurse Kellan is the CEO so it could be argued that he is, technically, her boss. They’ve grown up next to each other, and though they’ve never been BFFs they have a close bond and are in each other’s lives constantly. A clear friends-to-lovers storyline, Kellan’s eyes are suddenly opened to all that is Sara when she gets stood up by an online date. Set on erasing the sad look on her face he propositions her: one night to try all the kinky things she’d like to do… only when the list gets too long their night of passion becomes a whole weekend. Kellan was a hunky, sweet, charming and funny commitment-phobe. An occurrence in his past had left him wary of marriage and anything long-term that could lead there, so he kept all his hook-ups light and easy. One night with Sara, though, starts a ripple effect in his soul that he doesn’t quite know how to handle. Did I mention he was hot, sexy and really knew how to handle himself in the bedroom? Must have slipped my mind… but he was totally and completely yummy. Sara was dedicated, caring and took no bs from Kellan. Being witness to the string of women passing through his bedroom, she had never allowed herself to see him as more than “just my friend Kellan”. Except now she’s had the best sex of her life she can’t stop her feelings from becoming involved, especially when everything seems so effortless and right with him. Kellan’s issues are the only thing getting in the way of their chance at happily ever after, but it’ll take all of Sara’s strength to be the woman to help him realize forever doesn’t have to be a bad thing. With a great pace, perfect balance between sexy hotness and sweet romance, the silly banter that had me smiling like a goof was just the cherry on top. I enjoyed the crap out of reading Seducing the Boss. *I received a complimentary copy of this book*
Mari Carr knows how to make an entrance! With her book "Seducing the Boss" the main characters are "getting down" in the women's bathroom in Chapter Two. And it only gets better from there! Yes I'm a pervy girl. So there. I've established that the sex scenes are Racy and Steamy as all get out - gird your loins. The main characters are multi-faceted and complex I never felt like e-reader slapping or nut-punching any characters at all - that is a complete seal of approval right there. The storyline is compelling and touching. The Hero, Kellen James, is a beleaguered and stressed out CEO of Hampton General Hospital who self medicates with his personal "drug" of choice - a parade of meaningless one night stands. He's a confirmed bachelor for dark reasons from his past that he keeps to himself. The Heroine, Sara Connelly, is a dedicated ER nurse at Hampton General and rejects every offer to go to the "Dark Side" of Administration. She loves what she does, helping people and she has a strong work ethic and she doesn't have much respect for Kellen but they've known each other all of their lives and have been friends just as long. No matter how many insults they sling at each other deep down they trust and respect each other. The pacing is quick and steady and keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end. "Seducing the Boss" is a glorious whirlwind of sexual fun and frolic. The main characters have sparkling witty banter and amazing sexual chemistry. Mari Carr creates a couple who are incredibly comfortable with each other yet at the same time are circling each other knowing that have opposite beliefs - whether they want to or not. The characters of Kellen and Sara are incredibly likeable and engaging. The storyline has fun, conflict, and a tragedy that shines a spotlight on what is truly important. This book is captivating and riveting - I was hooked from page one. To read the entire review please visit: http://wp.me/p4XqxF-1jw This novel was provided in exchange for an unbiased review
I really enjoyed this friends become lovers story by Mari Carr! Kellan James is surprised to find his friend since childhood, Sara Connelly in Score one night looking smoking hot for a date with someone she had met online. When Kellan realizes that she's been stood-up he comes up with a plan that they both can benefit from. He encourages her to spend one weekend with him. No rules, walking on the wild side and when the weekend is over they go back to their regular lives asking for nothing in return. Sara accepts, but soon they both realize that one weekend together isn't enough and are expecting more and more from each other in spite of their good intentions to just walk away. I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
3.5 Stars This one felt a little weird to me. I liked that Kellan and Sara have been friends since they were younger and now Kellan is her boss, but it just didn't work well for me. I couldn't feel the chemistry between them. The book is hot and has some really great scenes, but it just felt off. The storyline itself was a good one, but it just feel a little bit short for me.
Seducing the Boss is Mari Carr's first story in the Pulse series, a steamy medical romance series which is being written by different authors. This particular story combines a workplace romance with a friends to lovers trope that had me engaged from start to finish. Friends for ages, Kellan and Sara are always at odds at work. She's an ER nurse, and he's part of the hospital management team, tasked with finding ways to cut costs. There's no right answer when patient lives are on the line. But outside of work, they've manage to keep their friendship alive and thriving. Kellan's a bit of a player, firmly committed to no commitment, as it were. He makes sure the women he sleeps with know the score. But when he spies Sara all dressed up and looking glum and discovers she's been stood up by an online date, he makes it his mission to put a smile on her face. He offers her the chance at a no holds barred weekend of sex between them – to scratch the itch they've both tried to deny is there, and to put any work issues on hold in the pursuit of pleasure. But when one weekend isn't enough, will their workplace relationship and their friendship be compromised? I really enjoyed this story! The conflict they experience at work is very realistic and I really liked how that part of the story was dealt with. They are both dedicated to their jobs and patient care – with Sara on the frontlines, and Kellan needing to make sure the hospital can be financially viable to stay open in the future. This definitely added to the challenge of their feelings for each other as they morph from friendship into something stronger. Their initial one weekend of sexual pursuit is steamy and well written. And what I really liked here was that it's Kellan who wants to continue the relationship. Sara is all set to go back to being friends after their fun times together, but Kellan, the commitment phobe, is the one who isn't ready to call it quits. He's the one in pursuit, trying to convince Sara that they can continue their affair in secret and no-one needs to know. But it's just a form of denial for him that he's coming to really care for Sara as more than a friend. When she calls him on it, he's forced to confront his own feelings about relationships and commitment. The combination of the work place storyline and the development of their relationship was a real winner for me. I'm looking forward to more from this author and the series!
I received a ARC from netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.... This was a fantastic book with light BDSM elements. I enjoyed it completely!! Kellan was signed on to never get married EVER!! He was ready to play the field for life he thought. His friend Sara was never going to take down the dragon and did not mean too. It was an innocent date, weekend...week? Wait what was it again??? Cut to a few weeks later the lines are blurred and he can't see his tail for his beer and he is due back at the office no matter what!! He is chasing Sara all over the ER. Will his past catch him or will he fall to bent knee??
Kellan/Kell was the CEO in the hospital that Sara worked at. Sara was his employee as well as her friend. The Board Of Directors wanted Kellan to find ways to cut the costs of the hospital as well as fix the slow response time in the ER. Sara was a nurse in said ER ‘ Kellan has tried to get Sara to take a an administrative job but she didn’t want to know anything about that. Kell’s friend Josh had called and wanted to know if Kell wanted to stop for a couple beers at Score a local sports bar not to far from the hospital. Kell made it clear to anyone he seen that he was only in it for the sex and a good time no strings, no relationships, no drama, no forevers, no love. When Kell was thirteen he and his mom walked in on his dad having sex with another woman His mom forgave his father but Kell didn’t and couldn’t understand how his mom could. He would never forget the look on his moms face when they found his dad. Alot of people said he was alot like his dad and he never wanted to hurt anyone like his dad had hurt his mom. While at the bar with josh Kell notices Sara is there and dressed and Kell noticed she was really pretty and Sexy and he instantly got hard. Sara was sitting by herself in a booth. For years Kell thought of Sara like a sister but not tonight. David had been Sara’s boyfriend of about three years then they broke up. David had dumped Sara and soon after married another woman. Kell went over to Sara and when he left Sara was with him and his to do with as he pleased for the weekend. Monday things was to turn back to normal between them. I did really like this story It made me smile at times and choked up at others. The plot was good and the writing was good also. The only thing was Kell seemed to realize he loved Sara out of nowhere really. It just seemed to quick and easy considering it was something he didn’t believe in. I am glad he did but just went to easy and fast as far as I’m concerned. But otherwise i loved the ins and outs Sara and Kell went through. I recommend. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.
Kellan and Sara grew up together but they are worlds apart. Sara is the good girl, a nurse and always willing to help. Kellan, her boss is out for a good time. When he spots Sara and his favorite bar and realizes she has been stood up, if offers a deal. Will she spend a weekend on the wild side? I really liked this fast paced read. I loved the chemistry between Kellan and Sara the story was fun and sexy and oh so steamy.
I love a delightful hot and steamy read when I just want to forget everything else. Mari Carr delivered the goods with this spicy read that brings together two childhood friends that quickly find that the benefits can be amazing. With plenty of heat and a touch of erotic flavor, this is a face paced read that just got better as it went along. A definite page turner, I love the delicious sex-on-a-stick Kellan. His protective streak comes out when anything has to do with sexy Sara. Sweet heat combined with great writing makes this a must have for your delve into this tempting read. This is the first I have read by Mari Carr, but certainly not the last! Love this one!!!!!
4 stars I really enjoyed reading Seducing the Boss, it was one of those books you didn't want to put down. The writing is well done, the characters Kellan and Sara were likable, entertaining and the chemistry between was smoking! If you're like me and enjoy friends to lovers storylines, you will definitely want to read this one. Seducing the Boss is a great start to The Pulse Series, I highly recommend it.
I loved reading this story of friends to lovers. And Kellan made it hot. He was loads of fun and sexiness. The way he would talk to Sara and the things he did, whoa momma! I adored Sara and the whole way she acted throughout the book. She was a strong independent woman who would call Kellan on his issues. They brought this book to life vibrantly. And to watch this playboy fall hard was so much fun. It was a little different from others where in this one the roles were reversed as far as pursuer goes. A very smooth and highly entertaining read from start to finish. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.
I loved this! The chemistry between Kellan and Sara speaks of long term friendship and unfulfilled desires. The bantar is playful with serious undertones and the sex is amazingly hot! It's very hard to put this book down to do things like eat and sleep.
Thanks to Entangled Publishing LLC (Brazen) via NetGalley for a copy of this book! This is the first book I've read by Mari Carr and won't be the last! I was captivated from the beginning of this book and didn't want to put it down until I was finished! I love best friends to lovers book!! Kellan and Sara have been friends since they were kids. She's an ER nurse and Kellan is the CEO of the hospital she works at. He's at a place called Score and there she is. She's such a pain in his butt and she's always ribbing him about his lifestyle. For that reason, he'd never date her or anyone like her. So much for his plans of avoiding her and women like her! She's stood up by a supposed date and that's all it takes for Kellan's protective caveman to come out. Normally, he'd tease her but he can see this jilt has affected her and he doesn't like that. He does the only thing a man like him can do....he offers her a walk on the wild side...with him for one weekend! Will she accept? Can they move on after that weekend or will something want them to stay together? Loved the characters in this book! It was a hot read, for sure!!
Seducing the Boss by Mari Carr pushes the boundaries of friendship. Sara was the girl next door while growing up and she works for Kellan at the hospital. Kellan has always viewed Sara as a sister-type, but he’s seeing her in a different light. When she gets stood up from her date, he volunteers to be the hookup, she desperately needs. They both know the score, it’s only for one night…but then it turns into the weekend…and so on. Kellan doesn’t believe he can do commitment. Marriage is out the question, because of a past betrayal that his mom went through, but that’s exactly what Sara needs. She’s the woman you marry and make a life with and he can’t offer her that. Will Kellan man up and realize his love for Sara or will he lose her and her friendship to another? I loved this story and the dialogue between the characters. It was realistic and kept me interested in the story. The heat between the characters is nothing short of scorching and I am keeping this in my favorite pile to re-read at a later date!
Mari Carr wastes no time in showing her reader what awaits them in Seducing the Boss and whilst may be a little heavy on the tropes, they're done well and Kellan and Sara bring plenty of hot and steamy goodness. "I used to believe hell would freeze over before I had sex with you." Hospital CEO and ER Charge Nurse, commitment-phobe and dreamer of love and family, Kellan James and Sara Carr are on so many different pages they shouldn't work. But they've been friends since childhood and when she's stood up for a date, he's there finding himself making suggestions neither of them expected. "You want a one-night stand, and I want to have it with you." I really enjoyed this and Mari Carr got the chemistry and characterisations just right. Kellan's not without his issues, but they're not overplayed and he was a perfect blend of thoughtful, protective, dirty and commanding, whilst Sara has a sweetness about her but a quiet strength and temerity that catches him off-guard on more than one occasion. Together they're fun, passionate, tender and supportive and amongst the sexy are parts to the story that tug on the old emotions a little bit. "Sex didn’t screw this up. It made it better." All in all an enjoyable, quick steamy read with likeable characters, and that's what I want when I pick up a Brazen. Great Summer Evening Read - Hot & Sexy Romance to not be missed This book took me by surprise...I made assumptions based on the title & the author threw me a curve or two...that is what makes this a great story. Who doesn't love a childhood friends fall in love unexpectedly story, right? And Kellan is this hot sexy manwhore that I just wanted to imagine myself as Sara. This book is hot & steamy, yet filled with sweet romance and few twists in the story. It is those twists that make the story even better. I have to say that by the end of the book I was totally swooning over Kellan. So, grab a glass of wine or sweet tea & enjoy the warm summer evening & check out this book.
When Kellen James isn't rushing down the halls of the hospital, you can usually find him unwinding at his favorite little hideout Score, it's where is goes to have a few drinks and unwind after a busy day. And sometimes he has the opportunity to take his unwinding to a whole new level by finding a beautiful woman to take home for the night there too. But tonight is a whole different story... in his favorite bar sits the woman he's know since they were kids, but she doesn't look like the same woman he normally jokes around with, no tonight she is dressed to kill and he can't take his eyes off of her, nor can he bring himself to stay away. So, he approaches her, and after some small talk he finds she is waiting for another man, and something about that just doesn't sit right with him. Then after they exchange a few words he walks away, but doesn't take his eyes off of her, and when it's apparent she's been up and idea strikes... one that has him proposing they take things to a level neither of them had ever considered before. ER- nurse Sara Connelly is too busy for love, between her job, and charities, she has very little time for a personal life. But as she watches others find her their happily ever afters there's a part of her that feels like she is missing out on something that she can no longer ignore, so she decides to give on-line dating a go and see if she can find the perfect man. Just when she thinks she may have met one that could be perfect for her, he winds up standing her up, so there she sits in a bar, all dressed up and no one to appreciate it! That is until her boss and childhood best friend Kellan approaches and makes her a proposition she's not so sure she wants to refuse... for one weekend of just sex. His offer is a few days of no strings attached sex, then when Monday approaches they can go back to just being co-workers and friends. It all seems good at the time, but once Monday comes she wonders if its possible to act like it never happened? The minute I dived into this sexy little story I was completely addicted, and knew that I wouldn't be coming up for air until I had devoured every last page!!! The chemistry between Kellan and Sara was undeniable from the start and it burned ever so brightly from start to finish, definitely a VERY impressive first read for me, and one that will linger with me for quite a while. I highly recommend you give this story a chance, you will NOT be disappointed! It's sure to satisfy and leave you with a smile!! This was a short, quick enjoyable read about lifetime friends falling in love unexpectedly. I have to admit, I didn't think anything really stood out about this story until I got to the second half of the book. I struggled a bit in the beginning because I had a hard time thinking Kellan just suddenly saw Sara in a new light when they have known each other since childhood. But then the heart of the story came out half way through. You learn why Kellan was in a state of denial and why Sara was the way she was with him as well. I really enjoyed this story once we got to the heart of this story and the ending was very sweet! ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Mari Carr's books always leave me panting, and Seducing the Boss continues in that tradition. This is a best friends to lovers romance with a little tweak to the tried and true trope. The friends are also boss and employee. Kellan James is the CEO of the hospital that Sara Connelly works for. Sara is an amazing ER nurse, charitable organizer, and all around good person. She and Kellan grew up together and up until recently, relished their platonic relationship. They are total opposites when it comes to dating and true love. Sara wants marriage and children, while Kellan is just fine with a steady stream of hook-ups. Then one lonely night they decide to spend the weekend together having mind-boggling sex, and that changes everything. I enjoyed this slightly emotional and sexy story. Ms. Carr evolves the friends to lovers relationship with skillful ease, and there was never a moment that I did not want Sara and Kellan to find their happily ever after together. Sara and Kellan are an engaging couple, and their sexy times are both sensual and hot. I liked Kellan's dominance in the bedroom. If you are looking for a nicely written romance with characters that are easy to connect too, then pick up a copy of Seducing the Boss. Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
5 - "Never say never." Stars! Being the first book I have read by this author, I have to say I was mightily impressed by Seducing the Boss, it may have been short, but it was perfectly formed. I think the main thing that stood out for me, is the fact that Mari Carr took me back to the days where you were pretty much guaranteed to know that the Brazen book you were picking up would contain two things; plenty of sex, and an easy to get along with story-line, she did this in spades and I really hope to see more books from her through this imprint very soon. "Careful, Scrubs. I bite back." I absolutely loved this book, Kellan was sweet, dirty and sexy, and Sara, sassy, confident and perfectly happy to take the lead. Both of them aren’t looking for any serious commitment, and being friends agree to scratch each other’s sexual itches for one weekend only. "You’re going to have to stop doing that…" "Doing What?" "Rolling your eyes at me. For some strange reason, it’s started turning me on. You roll your eyes, and I get hard…" As you would expect one weekend turns out to not be enough, and I loved that the author made Kellan the vulnerable party of the duo. "You’re the king of casual affairs. I was kind of planning on following your lead when it came to walking away." The drama when it comes is relevant and not played out, and the ending and epilogue perfect. "I’m not easy and I’m never going to be a sure thing." I really hope to see more from this author through Entangled Publishing in the near future. ARC generously provided via Netgalley, and it was my pleasure to provide the above honest review.
Frenemies Sara and Kellan, work together everyday. Are friendly on occasion and push each others buttons regularly. There are no benefits to the association until a spark of attraction leads to an explosive reaction. Mari Carr takes primitive up a notch with a sexy no limits romance that is fire engine red. Kellan is every woman's fantasy guy in the bedroom but has yet to mature in other areas. Sara is the girl next door that's bark is worse than her bite. Her school girl innocence is the catalyst for Kellan's dirtiest fantasies. In order to win, each has to learn to compromise. I received an ARC of Seducing The Boss by Mari Carr in exchange for an honest review. This romance is earthquake level.
