My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I own this whole series and many other books by Katie Reus! The cover is mysterious with tatted mystery man! This is the 8th book in the series, but it is the first book that I’m reading in the series. It is for adults only due to the violence and steamy content. While it is not necessary to read the books in order, I’m pretty sure you will love it even more if you read them in order. I’m going back to start book 1 next as I do own them all! The story starts with a chase scene which also gives you Keva’s back story and how she came to know Conall. Then it jumps to present day and a meeting she has with Dagen. They get stuck together for a little bit, and then things get bumpy. He knows she is his mate, but she is not looking for a relationship and her past comes back to bite her. Dagen goes into protector mode. This story was awesome, and I couldn’t put it down. It has not hooked me on this series and world. Now I have to go read all the books! I love this crazy mixed paranormal world! I highly recommend to any paranormal fan who loves shifters, vampires, magic, action, mates, and more!!

This is a short read and for this length, I didn't expect something really amazing. So the story was ok, with great develope characters and interesting plot. It has a quick pace and like I said I didn't expect something big. It was read for a rainy afternoon. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly

A paranormal urban fantasy delight! He was going to make her his… Sentinel of Darkness is a wonderful novella in Katie Reus’ Darkness collection. It’s a paranormal urban fantasy delight! While the story is told in just under a hundred pages, Katie packs an awesome punch with it with fully-developed characters and a fabulous story line. It truly feels like a full-length novel. I actually meant to just read a couple pages in it one evening before I went to sleep but ended up devouring the whole thing instead. Katie is an amazing author and Sentinel of Darkness is a shining example. Keva’s a talented artist and a human; Dagen’s a dragon. Years ago, Keva became aware of the existence of dragons when Conall, the Alpha of the Petronilla dragon-shifter clan, saved her from her abusive wolf-shifter boyfriend. Since then, Keva has left that past behind her - living and working in dragon territory under Conall’s protection. But, now, her ex’s family have found her and she’s in mortal danger. Meanwhile, she and Dagen have met for the first time. Dagen recognizes her right away as his one true mate – but, sadly, not before he firmly lodges his foot in his mouth during their initial meeting. So… major groveling moves to the forefront of his to-do list before he can court her and ask her to be his. Most immediately, he has to protect her from those who want her dead. Keva is cute, feisty and independent. Dagen is the superb persona of an alpha hyper-protective male but, it’s paired with a bit of insecurity. He is a huge, powerful dragon – chained to his own torturous baggage from the past. I like that while he’s very protective, he’s not paranoid nor does he try to take complete control of Keva’s life. That said, I couldn’t help but chuckle every time Dagen couldn’t suppress his growling when another male talked to Keva. Their chemistry is off-the-charts and they make a perfect couple. Following please find a few of my favorite lines from Sentinel of Darkness: “You make it hard to breathe,” he whispered. --- She turned to face him and suddenly he was all up in her space, his lips crushing hers. Just like that, another rush of heat spread through her, scorching and all-consuming. Groaning, he pulled back. “I’m sorry ---“ Keva grabbed his shirt, pulling him right back to her. Hell no. If he was going to start something, she was going to finish it. --- “You could never be a weakness,” he growled. Ever. She could only ever be his everything. Sentinel of Darkness is the eighth installment in Katie’s Darkness series; however, this tale works perfectly well as a stand alone if that is your preference. I love this series and this book is my favorite in the series so far. I laughed, swooned and held on to the edge of my seat. The ending left me with a huge smile. I can’t think of a higher compliment to a book and to an author than to say that I can still feel a warm glow when I think about Sentinel of Darkness days later. Have I mentioned how much I love dragons? Now, I’m happy dancing at the news that we will be treated to a Christmas story featuring the Petronilla clan entitled A Very Dragon Christmas next month! I can’t wait!

4 Stars Review by Morgen Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog Sentinel of Darkness by New York Times best selling author Katie Reus is book eight in the Darkness series. It is a novella and can be read as a standalone. The main theme of the book is that ready or not, love will find you. Keva is a strong-willed, independent and creative human trying to put the past behind her. She knows that shifters exist, but after what she went through with her ex, she could never be in a relationship with one again. Dagen is a dragon shifter, is somewhat new to town and is finding his place within the dragon clan. He has a past of his own he is trying to move on from. He is business minded, strong, confident and passionate. Keva and Dagen are thrown together and the chemistry is immediate. They are drawn to each other in ways even they don’t understand. When Keva’s past comes back to haunt her, it breaks something stronger than mere human laws. Dagen takes it upon himself to keep her safe. Can they fight their attraction or will one touch lead to another? The story is written in third person giving the reader a full view of the storyline and making the transition between characters smooth. It might be a novella but nothing is missing from the characters depth. I loved the way the story unraveled and kept me hooked. Their passion jumped off the pages. This is a fast paced adventure that you’ll never want to end. My favorite part was getting inside Dagen’s head. The way the author wrote his emotional journey was truly gripping. The side characters are interesting and it was fun getting to know the clan. I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys a fun and passionate shifter romance.

The Darkness continues to pull reader into a fascinating world full of wonderful, bold and sexy characters with its newest addition, Sentinel of Darkness. Keva is a local artist with a troubled past involving shifters and Dagen has finally met his mate, except he insults her the first time they meet. Keva and Dagen’s romance starts off on a slippery slope full of emotional turmoil and sizzling chemistry, but their attraction is irresistible and the passion erupts in fiery explosive passion that singes readers with every page. The plot is fast paced, smooth flowing and full of danger and excitement as Keva’s past catches up to her and its demanding her blood. Dagen will do anything to keep her safe, even if it means dying and readers can’t help but become ensnared in the story as they hold their breath awaiting the outcome of this thrilling predicament. This is a standalone story in the Darkness series, a well-developed world that is full of mesmerizing dragons and wolves, a world that readers find as thrilling as it is sexy.

Kava knows about dragons and Daren just might off messed things up. Well he has and now that he knows what she is to him it time to grovel. Kava doesn’t want to date a shifter because of her past.

Keva escaped a brutal ex-boyfriend. He was a wolf shifter who didn't value humans. Keva was saved by Conall, head of a clan of dragon shifters and allowed to live under his protection. Dagen is a dragon sentinel for the clan. He didn't think that he would find his mate until he meets Keva. He needs her, but can he protect her from her enemies? Conall's clan is filled with interesting and caring shifters. They add so much to the story. Keva is a strong willed and feisty woman. She's brave enough to stand up for herself. I love that. Dagen looses his heart to Keva, but he'll give her time to make her decision. I admired him for that. The story is filled with non stop action. I couldn't put down Sentinel of Darkness. I love the latest installment in the Darkness series. Katie Reus doesn't disappoint. I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.

I have a love-hate relationship with paranormal romance but I have to conclude that for me novellas are the way to go. Keva is a human, she was dating a wolf shifter who turned abusive and was only saved from potential death by a dragon shifter. Now years later she is coming under threat from her ex's family. Dagen is a dragon shifter who has recently moved into the same dragon territory as Keva - as soon as he lays eyes on Keva he knows she is his mate, but their first encounter isn't auspicious. This is a fun, engaging novella, it might be a tad predictable but then most paranormal romance is. Although this is the eighth book in the series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone, I have only read one of the other books in the series. Recommended if you want a shifter/ human romance with a protective dragon and a feisty artist. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This is book 8 in the Darkness series and can be read as a standalone but I recommend you read the previous books just so you know who some of the characters are and the relationships they have with each other. This one is about Keva and Dagen. Keva is a human who was saved by a dragon shifter from someone who was ready to kill her. And ever since that night she has stayed in clan territory where it will be safer for her. She has managed to make friends and have a business that keeps her happy. Dagen is a dragon shifter who has just joined the clan. And upon meeting Keva, he has already managed to insult her when that was never his intention. Especially when he believes her to be his mate. But when a former threat comes back into her life, he will do whatever he has to to make sure she is safe. I loved this book! While this book is short, it drew me in and I couldn't put it down from the beginning! Keva has been through the ringer because of an ex and she still manages to come out healthy and while not quite whole, at least she knows her own issues. Dagen is the typical alpha male but as is typical with shifters of their mates, he will do anything and everything to make sure his is happy. And that includes leaving her be if she decides that she doesn't want to be mated to him. These two are adorable and explosive together. And the side characters, as always, make you love the book just that much more! Now I just need to see the twins find their mates!!

Dragons!!! I love them, but holy heck…Dragen was PERFECT!!! Absolutely, unequivocally perfect! For a novella, this was packed full of all kinds of goodness! It has everything a full length novel has and believe it or not, was one of the best books I’ve read this year. Dagen was such a wonderful alpha hero with a bit of insecurity that actually worked so well that I couldn’t have loved him more. I absolutely loved his courting of Keva and he was so darn cute that I swooned from his charm. However, when it came time to protect her, there was nothing insecure about him. He went into full on protective mode in the only manner a dragon shifter can and oh my gawd it just added to my total enjoyment of this story. Add in his inability to stop growling each time a man talked about her or he thought another man might be even thinking about her and I was GONE! Did I mention he was just so freaking cute? Along with the getting to know you stage for this couple, came the standard Katie Reus suspense that always amps the action up. While the length of this book didn’t allow for a lot of expanded drama in this instance, it was still very well done and there were even a few surprises thrown in to add to the overall believability of danger. I can’t recommend this book enough if you like dragon shifters, perfect possessive/protective and jealous heroes, and a story that works from beginning to end. I absolutely LOVED it! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

SENTINEL OF DARKNESS (Darkness Series #8) By Katie Reus This is the story of Dagen who is a dragon shifter and Keva who is a human artistic jeweler. He is bowled over the 1st time he sees her, and inadvertently insults her. Now he is determined to make up for it. He has realized she is his mate. She has a bad history with shifters and had to be rescued from her last boyfriend by Conall, who is alpha of the dragons. When a wolf shifter from the past shows up to threaten Keva, Dagen is determined to protect her at all cost. This is a sweet easy read. I enjoy the dragon shifters most of all. I like when we get to visit characters from past books. It is definitely like a visit with an old friend. Katie Reus has a gift with spinning a story.

I absolutely love this series so I was excited to see book eight and it's a DRAGON!!! Dagen oh my such yumminessssssss....... This story is short, and I finished it in one sitting because yea it's that good. Dragen and Keva are a perfect match once they figure it out. And once they can put her tragic past to rest finally. And once he learns she knows of their kind. We get a few visits from others in previous stories, and I just love that... Grab your copy and enjoy a remarkable story.

Oh yummy, a dragon shifter, a guardian protector and a steamy romance. What's not to like? Keva is a human artist hanging out in Conall's dragon territory under his protection. He saved her from her insane ex, a lone wolf shifter who was trying to kill her for rejecting him. Her property is the last hold out in Conall's ever expanding real estate ventures and Dagen, new to the clan, does his thing trying to low ball her into selling it. On the way to the meeting they get trapped together in an elevator. She comforts him as he's uncomfortable in tight spaces from a traumatic experience in his past. He realizes as soon as he meets her she's his mate and the offer is insulting. He tries to pull it back but she reads it and tells him off. What a start to a romance. Poor Dagen spends most of the story apologizing and proving he can be trusted. She's his mate and there will be no other, he must win her over no matter what it takes. This was such a fun adventure, burning across the pages. It literally steams with their chemistry. All my favorite things are in this story and Katie weaves an entertaining and satisfying story. Thanks Katie for the opportunity to review this for you. Can't wait for the next one.

4.25 stars-- SENTINEL OF DARKNESS is the eighth novella in Katie Reus’s contemporary, adult DARKNESS paranormal romance series. This is dragon shifter / businessman Dagen, and human / artist Keva Sheehan’s story line. SENTINEL OF DARKNESS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory as this particular series arc focuses on the dragons. Told from dual third person perspectives (Keva and Dagen) SENTINEL OF DARKNESS follows the building relationship between dragon shifter / businessman Dagen, and human / jewellery artist Keva Sheehan. Four years earlier Keva Sheehan, on the run from her abusive, wolf shifter ex, found solace and safety with the local dragon clan. Fast forward to present day wherein Keva’s past is desperate to uncover the truth about the whereabouts of her missing ex, believing Keva knows what happened and why. Enter dragon shifter Dagen, and the man with whom Keva will fall in love. As the threats against Keva become more personal and physical, Dagen names himself Keva’s person protector with the knowledge that our heroine is Dagen’s fated mate. What ensues is the building romance between Dagen and Keva, and the potential fall-out as Keva is unable to let go of the past, or open her heart to another supernatural lover. SENTINEL OF DARKNESS brings together several members of the Petronilla Clan of dragon shifters s they pull together to protect one of their own. Dagen knows that Keva is his mate, and offers up his home and protection for the foreseeable future. Keva Sheehan battles memories of the past, and fears her ex-lovers pack are seeking vengeance for their missing brother. Unable to open her heart to the possibility of love, Keva keeps Dagen at a distance, a distance that continues to close as her past quickly closing in . SENTINEL OF DARKNESS is a quick read; an entertaining and heated story of fated mates, betrayals, retribution and love. The premise is engaging, inviting and spirited; the romance is passionate and spicy; the characters are damaged, colorful and dynamic. Katie Reus adds another wonderful couple to her Darkness Series of shifters, vampires and dragon mates

Keva is human, running for her life from her ex boyfriend, a wolf shifter. She is rescued by a dragon shifter. Since they are on Conall's territory and he's the alpha, she is under his protection. Four years later, Keva has an offer to sell the shop where she makes jewelry and sculptures. She has a meeting with Dagen, one of the Dragon shifters to make a deal to sell the property. There's a connection that he feels strongly and she feels an attraction to him. Someone is looking for her former boyfriend. Will the past come back to haunt her? There's dangerous times ahead for Keva. It seems when one threat is erased, another comes up. It will take all of Keva's courage to survive. Does she have enough strength? What about Dagen? I loved this book. Hunky Dragon shifters which I love and a strong woman. Katie Reus never disappoints. I received this book from Net Galley and the publisher for a honest review and no compensation otherwise. The opinions expressed are my own.

This series is one all paranormal lovers can enjoy and this book was no different. I have read every book in this series and I can't wait to read more. This book started off with a bit of suspense that had me enjoying this story from the very beginning and I enjoyed it to the very end. I actually wished this story was longer because I was not ready for it to end. I could have read more of Dagen, Keva, Cconall, Rhea, Arya, Mira and Prima, along with everyone else. Dagen a dragon shifter has found his mate, Keva a human and their first meeting wasn't the best but he's determined to do what he has to do to make her his. I loved how protective Dagen was with Keva and with Richard wanting answers for where his brother is, Keva will need all of the protection she can get. This story has a bit of suspense, revenge and is steamy. I can't wait to read the next story in this series.

Under dragon protection… This is the eighth book in the Darkness series that can be read as a stand-alone. Most humans are unaware that paranormal beings exist amongst them. Having dated a wolf-shifter Keva Sheehan became privy to the existence of other sentient species and the experience did not end well, just as she was about to lose her life at the hands of said shifter a dragon appeared and saved her. Since that almost fateful day, Keva has lived in that dragon’s territory, where she has known protection and the time to heal from an abusive relationship and grow into the woman and the talented artist she was meant to be. The past, though, has a tendency of resurfacing and that time is now. Joining the Petronilla clan six months ago Dagen Hunter did not expect he would find his mate or that she would be a human but there is no denying the depth of the attraction he and his inner dragon feel around Keva. Too bad he insults her at their first meeting, groveling is now warranted. She runs a shop where he finds realistic figurines of dragons she created. She must know about his kind but how much he’ll have to determine as he courts her. That she’s experienced trauma before, something he himself can identify with from his own past means he’ll need to proceed slowly for she is meant to be his. Both of the main characters knew dire traumatic circumstances from which they survived and became stronger individuals from the experience, this made them uniquely perfect as mates. When Keva’s past resurfaced she was no longer alone or had the mindset of a victim but that of a fighter, she needed to learn this about herself. It’s awesome to have a sexy alpha dragon shifter for protection but being capable of handling situations when that dragon wasn’t around Keva found quite satisfying. This was an enjoyable read about destined mates with added suspense spurned by vengeance. The characters were interesting, likable and relatable, their dialogue often amusing. Each learned more about not just each other but themselves as the romance progressed both being damaged by past events yet had healed enough to let someone in. This story is that of a longer novella. An advanced reading copy was obtained from the author.

Sentinel of Darkness (Darkness #8) by Katie Reus ...Katie never disappoints....This is Keva (abused and almost kill by her wolf shifter boyfriend...she is saved by a dragon shifter who is the alpha) Dagen's ( was held captive by a witch shifter ) story. Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. There is laughter, drama, violence, steamy dragon sex that gets us to a very HEA. Looking forward to the next DARKNESS book.

When I read a novella, it's not always easy to find one that checks all the boxes like a full length book does and this one does. Holy cow, Dagen was amazing! Dagen's the type of hero that is big, very tough, but also quiet. Sometimes I think the quiet tells you more about a person than anything else and I seem to be drawn to these types of heroes. Add to that, he was amazing with Keva. He recognized instantly that she was his mate. A mate he never thought he would find. Instead of resisting, he handled her with a care that just made me sigh with happiness. Keva was also a great heroine. She resisted a bit due to her past, but it wasn't too much and it was also understandable seeing as she is human and a previous shifter had already used their strength against her. But what I loved most about her was that she paid attention and saw that Dagen was handling her with care that was completely sincere and she adjusted. Having great main characters is great in itself, but when you also get great side characters and an exciting story, it really puts a book right to the top. I particularly love this clan of dragons, especially since Mira came out of hibernation. She's going to be one heck of a future main character. I'm really looking forward to more in this series.
