a sprawling rousing beautiful tale--full of all the horror of revolution. I've it dozens of times and never stop feeling AWE at Ms Kaye's accomplishment in capturing what happened when India rebelled against British rule. a huge romantic novel filled with history that makes me smile AND shed tears. molly kaye was married to a british officer in India and her love for her adoptedcountry comes thru clearly. sort of a sequel to her masterpiece THE FAR PAVILIONS. Also recommended is TRADE WIND

I love this book and now that I am old and have vision problems I wish that it would be made into an e-book so that I could read it on my nook. I would buy all of M M Kayes's books and Mary Stewart books (ex. My Brother Michael, and Nine Coaches Waiting) for the Nook if I could but I cannot  find them   MCA

Shadow of the moon, by M.M. Kaye is a wonderful historical novel of the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny. The author grew up in India, and every page of the novel reflects the love she has for that country. The main characters Winter de Ballesteros and Alex Randall are the quintessential lovers in this very old-fashioned romantic tale. The historical events that unfold in the background are told with detail and spice that make the other characters, the time and the place alive for the reader. A wonderful read.
