In spite of the pace of the story, I found myself drawn in by the characters and the tumultuous relationship between Miriel and Catwin. Lots of political intrigue and I just had to get the rest of the trilogy to see where it goes. This book was free and the next 2 were a total of $4, quite a bargain given that the books are over 700 pages and the story is actually interesting, if a bit slow. I will definitely add this author to my list and after I finish this series, I will look for more by Moria Katson.

I’ve never been a big fan of the medieval genre before. No matter how much fantasy you throw in, Kings and Queens and the Court haven’t ever done it for me. So, when Moira contacted me about reviewing Shadowborn, I was pretty torn. Yes, the book has pretty good reviews… but would it be interesting enough to keep my attention? Shadowborn moves a slow and steady pace. One thing I saw mentioned in a few reviews is that there isn’t a whole lot of action (danger, threat against Miriel) going on. Most people have counted this against the book. However, it felt right to me. I feel like Shadowborn was laying the ground work for the trilogy and it did so wonderfully. While there wasn’t a lot of action, there was a lot happening. Moira’s writing is fantastic. I love that Shadowborn is done in first person. I think it added extra mystery to the story since we’re only able to see things as Catwin sees them. The characters are masterfully done. All of the characters had their own personality and depth. I loved watching Catwin and Miriel evolve through the story. I cannot wait to see how the story continues. Check out my other reviews on my blog, KDH Reviews.

Moira Katson's characters are deep and believable. Her plot line is dicey and her antagonists are mulrifacetted and diverse ...nasty too.

I really enjoyed reading Shadow Born, I did find some editing errors but they were not so many to make me pause much in my reading. I bought the next book and I'm looking forward to it!!

I trully hate politics! These books by Moira Katson, yes, IHAD to read the entire trilogy, have given me some insight into some reasons "why" I hate it so much! They brought some light onto some aspects I had never consciously thought about. I will be looking for more from Moira Katson.

It's an interesting story but I was left with the impression that it was self published and not given a thorough editing. Perhaps it's an ebook issue and people who have a physical copy won't have the same impressions. But I found multiple grammar mistakes as well as typos. For example, the book at one point had the phrase 'her the Duke' in a sentence which is grammatically incorrect. And at another instance, I came across the word 'womanr' which is also incorrect. Again, these may have been issues with bringing the book over to ebook form, I don't know. But the final impression I got was that I got the book for free, and I got what I paid for. Despite having an interesting story, the glaring errors make me hesitant to spend actual money on the second and third installments in this trilogy.

I got the first book free and finished it quickly. I had to get the next 2. I loved the characters and how they grow up together but so apart. I like how they begin to realize that neither has the perfect life but that they can be friends. The lies and deceits of the court life is abundant and sometimes predictable but with unpredictable reactions. It is a great story from the first to the last. Look for the whole trilogy in one book, it is worth it.
