Overview

From New York Times Bestselling Author, Kristen Proby, comes an all new paranormal romance set in the mystical city of New Orleans…

I am never alone. Not even when I am alone.

I see the unquiet dead, the souls that wander through the French Quarter.

They can’t move on, and I can’t stop seeing them.

I wear malachite for protection, and I control what I let in. It’s the only way to stay sane. Everything changes the day Cassian Winslow joins my ghost walking tour and knocks my world off its axis with green eyes the color of the stone around my neck.

An unspeakable evil is loose in New Orleans, taking young women and leaving a bloodbath in his wake. More shadows lurking for me. More unhappy dead. There might be a way to stop it.

Open myself up to Cassian.

If I do, it could spell his death.

But if I don’t, it’s mine.

I normally avoid paranormal books like the plague, but the eerie premise of “Shadows” intrigued me enough to give it a try. Wow, am I glad I did! The gripping prologue of this spine tingling story was the most intensely creepy, page-turning start to a book I’ve read in a long time. The city of New Orleans & the bayou are the perfect haunted setting for the spellbinding and often gruesome tale of murder, love & magic. This darkly thrilling read is ideal for Halloween, but be warned- it’s not for the faint of heart.

I was so excited to read this book and boy it DID NOT disappoint in anyway!!!!!!!! I don't even know what to say right now!!!!! That ending???? What did I just read? I certainly did not see that coming!!!! I lived in NOLA for four years, I can honestly say the stuff that was talked about in here, well when it comes to NOLA tours, I DID THAT ONE! I felt like I was back there, doing the tour again and nodding my head as I went along. So accurate and that is just the side stuff! Lets move on to the characters! HOLY CRAP! These characters, all of them, made me FEEL! Whether it was hate, love, hotness! It was so good! Side warning here: some of it was darker than I expected but hang on and sally forth because this books amazing! It was like Heather Graham on steroids! SO DANG GOOD! I can't wait for the next one in this series!!!

I have heard that New Orleans was the most haunted place in the country, and after reading this story, I have no doubts. Shadows is a paranormal romance and something new and different from Kristen Proby. Shadows revolves around Brielle, one of three gifted sisters. Brielle can see dead people, or “shadows”. When something changes with the shadows, there is trouble. Fortunately, a hot FBI profiler, Cash, is there to help Brielle and her sisters. I absolutely adored Brielle and Cash together. There was no OW/OM drama, just a sweet love story. Yes, it was very insta-love, but it worked. From the very beginning, Cash was very protective of Brielle and there was also a weird feeling that they knew each other, even though they have never met. Honestly, this story is more creepy than scary. There is a murder mystery going on, and let me tell you, the killer is a whack job. You do get to read the killer’s POV too, which also helped with the “creep o factor”. I am anxiously awaiting book 2, which I think may revolve around the middle sister Millie. I have some unanswered questions that I hope will be explained in the next book.

I loved so many things about this book. This was truly a dark paranormal at it’s best. The characters were amazing and I loved that the story was unique and kept me intrigued from start to finish. And oh boy, that finish? I can’t believe the author left us like that...I need the second book now! If you are in the mood for a great read check out Shadows and let Kristen Proby take you down to the Bayou in a book you don’t want to miss!

Prepare yourself, Shadows takes you on a journey where beliefs are tested, the tension is nail-biting and the romance soul-searing. If you think you are ready, think again!!! Brielle and her sisters have struggled with their gifts for as long as they can remember. Living in the Bayou surrounded by spirits and at the mercy of abusive, neglectful parents – to say they have not had it easy would be an understatement. As soon as she was old enough, Brielle left the house of horrors and rescued her sisters in the process. From there they were able to develop the gifts they had been born with and create a future for themselves. However, it would seem the past and the sins of the parents are intent on keeping the sisters from finding happiness. The serial killer element within the plot was truly disturbing, especially with the chapter headings featuring actual quotes from real-life serial killers *shudders* The raw fear of the victims permeated from the pages. The unique history of New Orleans was cleverly woven into the story and while making the hairs on my arms stand on end, it also made me want to dig deeper and find out more about the places and people mentioned within Shadows. The inclusion of characters from the Boudreaux series added depth to the story and the characters themselves. Shadows is so much more than simply a paranormal romantic suspence story, the character development is an intriguing part of the plot as a whole; showing the acceptance of the gifts they have been given is a fundamental part in the sisters accepting themselves and learning to be comfortable with who they are. There are indications within the narrative of more to come as well as hints as to some sort of prophecy coinciding with the discovery of soul-mates for each of the sisters. Shadows is a fantastic start to the series, one I am desperate to continue reading.

I received an ARC for an honest opinion. I loved this story. Brielle and Cash are drawn together by fate I imagine and are a great couple. Kristen did an amazing job of including the paranormal with a love story. The story was engaging and I can’t wait for the sisters stories and how all this will unravel. I definitely would recommend this book and author to friends.

The Landry sisters of New Orleans have been surrounded by the extraordinary for as long as they can remember. Each has a deep knowledge of and firm grasp on the gifts that they've inherited, and are happy to share them with others. When Brielle, the oldest sister, begins to see things, see spirits, that shouldn't be anywhere nearby, she and her sisters, along with one very hunky and helpful FBI profiler and a plethora of magic makers, begin the quest to find out what, or who, is making trouble in their town. Sometimes authors step outside of their usual genre, and, well, things just don't work out. And, other times, an author will write something completely different from their norm, and, magic. SHADOWS by Kristen Proby falls squarely into the second camp. Spooky, creepy, and filled with paranormal activity, SHADOWS is a fantastic start to a series that I just know that I am going to love. Brielle, Millie, and Daphne are a welcome addition to the world of paranormal romance, and I adore that Kristen has tied these books into the world of her Boudreaux series. And, while I wouldn't say that SHADOWS ends on a cliffhanger, there is most definitely more to this saga, as each sister gets her story and the larger picture unfolds, and I cannot wait to see where things go. Absolutely five stars for SHADOWS and the folks of the Bayou Magic series. You're going to love this world, I guarantee.

Shadows just became my all time favorite Kristen Proby book. This is more than just a romance; it’s a psychological mind twist that will have you questioning the sounds your home makes in the middle of the night. The level of character development - not just between Brielle and Cash but between the sisters - is fabulous from start to finish.

I liked this book. It wasn't perfect but I liked it. Believe it or not, I have never read Kristen Proby's work before picking up this book. I love paranormal stories so I thought that this would be a great place to start. So many things worked really well for me with this book and I am glad I made the decision to give it a try. I loved the premise of this story. There are three sisters that all have extraordinary abilities. The focus is on the oldest sister Brielle in this book but we do get a chance to see the sister's powers in action and learn some of their past. The three sisters all have different abilities. Brielle is able to see ghosts. She lives and works in New Orleans giving ghost tours to tourists and some locals. When she starts seeing recent murder victims, she knows that there is a killer on the loose. I loved the mystery and paranormal aspects of the story. I have to admit that there were parts of this book that were a lot more graphic than I had expected...and I couldn't have been happier about it because I love a good twisted story. The things that were happening to the women he was taking was almost hard to even think about. The bad guy in this one is a pretty sick case. I was so eager to find out who was responsible and what his motivations were. I thought that the way that Brielle was able to use her gift to help the women was rather imaginative. Unfortunately, I did have some issues with the story. The romance is this story completely depends on insta-love. Cash see Brielle and decides he is for her. I can sometimes deal with insta-love if the couple has a lot of chemistry but I wasn't feeling that here. Don't get me wrong, I liked both Brielle and Cash quite a bit but they way they jumped into a relationship so quickly without even sharing a kiss just felt off. I decided to just go with it and enjoy the story but the romance always felt like the weakest part of the book. I would recommend this book to readers who don't mind insta-love romances. Ultimately, I enjoyed the mystery and paranormal elements in the book so much that I wasn't too bothered by the issues I had with the romance. I do want to read the rest of the series to see what will happen to the other two sisters! I received a digital review copy from the publicist and have voluntarily left this review.

Absolutely blown away!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am not a paranormal type of girl... but this book had me hooked! Read it in one sitting. Might have regret that I started at 8pm and the house was dark.... but it was so good!! Shadows, even being PNR had the typical Kristen Proby family dynamic that I adore! I loved getting to meet each of these sisters and their gifts. The detail in this book was amazing! I felt like I was in the French quarter with Brielle and Cash. I will reread this one again for sure! Can not wait for more in the Bayou Magic world!

Absolutely chilling! Note: This Review contains NO spoilers Oh, how I love a good ghost story, and with a touch of romance, too! And, that's what I got when I read Shadows ! From the prologue to the epilogue, the intensity was consistently increasing with every turn of the page. Shadows gave me a Ghost Whisperer -esque feel to it. Love that TV series, by the way. Not just that, it also gave me a True Blood -ish or The Originals -ish, too. Well, the seasons with all those witches, but without all those other supernaturals. Anyways, Kristen Proby's descriptive world-building and well-developed characters allowed me to "picture" it in my head, almost "whisking" me away to "walk" with these characters. This is such a twisted ghost story with a touch of romance .... AND, I LOVED IT! Shadows is definitely perfect for the Halloween season! With the elements of suspense, horror, and mystery, this story kept me at the "edge of my seat" and with bated breath that got me getting chills and goosebumps. I also liked that the quick romance was subtle, yet, very present. What a crazy and scary whirlwind love affair this was! The romance was sweet and heartwarming. There were moments that got me teary-eyed, too! Yup! But.... That epilogue!?!? Wow! That so got me holding my breath! I think I did stop breathing when I read that last sentence... Haha! There better be another book coming... Shadows ended with "unfinished business." Now, my heart is racing with anticipation and anxiety. What could that ending mean... to these characters!?! Need the next book to find out!!!

Shadows is a story a bit out of Kristen Proby's "normal world." It takes you to New Orleans, LA, into the world of witches, warlocks, and magic. For those of you who loved Kristen's book "Easy Magic," that was a small appetizer into this world. Shadows takes you all the way in, more so that I thought it would. It is wonderfully written and tastefully told. I say this because books about paranormal subjects can be hokey and a bit cheesy. Also, there is a serial killer. I am all for mystery in a book. In fact, I crave it. Parts of this story are told in the killer's POV. When I discovered this I had the same feeling one would get on a roller coaster at the top of the first big hill. I was afraid it would be too much. While there is some graphic detail, it was nothing I couldn't handle. The story POV does jump around, but I love that in a book. It also does end in a bit of a cliffhanger with the promise of 2 more books to follow. All in all I loved this book. Kristen writes "horror" and "paranormal" like she's been at it for years. Well done!

Brielle see dead people. Yup said that! Her sisters have abilities as well. Cash, while on vacation, takes one of Brielle’s tours and knows he just met someone special. He just didn’t realize how special she was. Now the sisters need to figure out what is going on and put a stop to it! Absolutely loved this book. I can’t wait for the rest of the series!

Let me start off by saying "I DON'T READ PARANORMAL"; however, when I read the blurb about Shadows I was so intrigued that I HAD to read, plus......HELLO.....it's Kristen Proby. Wow... this book was suspenseful, eerie, spellbinding, I consumed page after page of this story not wanting to STOP! The twists and turns that unfold were heart-stopping, mind-blowing and jaw-dropping; needless to say this book NEEDS to be read! I can't wait for the next book because that ending had me swiping for more pages that just weren't their and I was yelling.......WTF..... NOOOOOO!!!!

I don't even know what to say about this book. It is so wonderful I can't come up with the words to describe how great this story is. I don't normally read paranormal but this book will leave you speechless. Once you start reading it, you will not want to stop, it was like I became obsessed with reading it. There are very few books that I have read that have made me feel like that.
