Overview

Shallow by Cora Kenborn

The Higher The Star...The Harder The Fall

Shiloh

Only the good die young. But I've never been good.
I've lived a life most people only dream about-famous men, expensive booze, and the finest drugs money could buy. But every vice has its price and living a life of excess has finally dragged me down, forcing me back to the one place I swore I'd never return.
We met in high school, but we were far from sweethearts. I ruined his life and then walked away. Losing everything is bad enough, but crawling back to people who wish you were dead is a nightmare.
Some say absence makes the heart grow fonder. Not always.
You either forgive and forget or fracture and finish.

Cary

Seven years ago, Shiloh West was my world. I gave up my future for her. Then, I spent every waking moment hating her for it. I've followed her train wreck of a career in the tabloids since she drove out of town with her nose in the air. The woman is toxic.
The fact that a judge has court ordered her back to town means nothing to me-except maybe the payback I've waited a lifetime to collect. I'm going to build her up and tear her down.
A better man would walk away. I'm not a better man. She thinks she has the upper hand. Think again, Starshine.
Beauty is only skin deep, but revenge goes straight to the bone.

What words can I possibly use to describe how amazing of a book this is? Shiloh and Carrick "Cary" took me on an intense and emotional ride but it was so worth it. First thing this book did was completely rip my heart out with how shallow and selfish Shiloh was and the extreme anger and the burning desire for revenge that Cary had for her. However, the author slowly started these two on the path of redemption, forgiveness and finally acceptance and love. The love being not only the love for others, but more importantly, the love for oneself. Bonus of course, was the insanely hot sexual tension between them and watching that tension combust. The depth of the secondary characters with each of their own individual personalities was great to read and didn't take away from Shiloh or Cary at all but rather enhanced their story. In my opinion, this is by far this author's best penned words to date and I highly recommend this brilliant masterpiece.

Shallow is a book about the journey of forgiveness. Cary and Shiloh knew each other when they were in high school. Shiloh took advantage of Cary’s love for her one night and did something that seemed unforgivable. Seven years later Shiloh and Cary meet again. Cary is a changed man but Shiloh seems to be the same shallow person she’s always been. Cary doesn’t know how to react to her return. He battles with his feelings towards her and whether to exact revenge now that he has his chance or forgive her. It’s not only about Cary’s forgiveness of Shiloh but also Shiloh’s forgiveness of herself and her mother. All the characters learn a lot about themselves and each other throughout the book. I love the man Cary’s become. He has been able to overcome every bad event in his life to become a role model to younger boys. Just when you think there is a happy ever after there is another plot twist and you’ll start questioning whether Shiloh and Cary can ever truly forgive. I highly recommend this book! 5++ stars! This is not for the faint of heart because Ms. Kenborn takes you through all the paces from deception and betrayal, shallowness and superficiality, tragedy and adversity, heartbreak and despair. My heart isn’t sure if it was breaking or if hope was on the horizon only to be flipped upside down again. This is a book you don’t want to miss and will give the HEA that many are hoping for…it’s just one h*ll of a rollercoaster ride to get there. I received this book as an ARC for a freely given and honest review.
