Overview

Shelter for Adeline by Susan Stoker

Saddled with a job she hates and a detestable boss she likes even less, Adeline Reynolds could use a break. It doesn't look like she'll get one today. Her service dog, Coco, is alerting her she's about to have an epileptic seizure-and her frustrated blind date has left her to deal on her own. Enter firefighter Dean Christopherson, who escorts her to the nearby fire station, where she can suffer through her ordeal safe from injury and prying eyes.

Dean-known as "Crash" to his friends-didn't expect to find The One in a diner during his lunch break, but he's blindsided by the beautiful, brave Adeline. She brings out his every protective instinct-along with the carnal ones. As they get to know each other, Dean's feelings for Adeline grow fast, as does his irritation with her boss, whose behavior is suspicious at best.

As much as he wants to protect Adeline from the world, Crash has to tread carefully. His overprotectiveness could push her away...and leave her vulnerable to a man whose obsession has reached the boiling point.

Fireman/parmedic Dean (aka Crash) assists Adelaide in getting through an epileptic seizure after she is ditched by her blind date at a diner. Going back for lunch after, they start dating. Dean is taken with her and being a real gentleman slowly pursues deepening their relationship vice jumping into bed too quickly. The story presented the difficulties anyone with a seizure disorder struggles with in leading a regular life including conflicts about service animals in public places. I have read all the other books and felt this was a more low key love story with a bit of psycho stalker thrown in almost because the rest had a crazy in them. One thing that seemed inconsistent was Dean's character - I feel his use of explicit language of what he saw for their future relations, stated so early, was not in line with the respectful tone he set otherwise or for the type of guy he was written as with his intention of strengthening her trust before pursing intimacy. Overall the story was good and educational, but not as suspenseful as the rest of the series. I do look forward to reading more in the series.

The emotions, drama and disabilities that are in this book will draw you in and make you see things in a different way. This is a story that will drag you in and keep you there until the end . The real situations in it will have you laughing, holding your breath and crying. I received an Arc in exchange for an honest and fair review.

Susan Stoker has done it again. I am in a book hangover now lol. I loved this couple. She did such a great job here with the disability and dean's patience and understanding. I loved watching a adeline grow and blossom under dean's love and care. Can't wait to read chiefs story I must admit he has me intrigued. Thanks Susan Stoker for another wonderful book.

I had read all of Susan Stoker's books and have several that are currently pre-purchase. Loved them and can't wait to read the next books. Dean or Crash is really a great guy. Adeline was a strong independent women great to see. I felt the plot was a little weak, glad Adeline wasn't hurt, but she was only in danger what 5 minutes. I liked the overall story too much not recommended. mjw

An otherwise interesting story got muddled with flat dialog, weird sex play, and an utterly creepy hero who talks you through, play by play, all his sexual fantasies chapters before he actual gets around to doing anything. The dog was a nice touch.

Make sure you keep a fan close by for this one! This is book 7 in the Badge of Honor series and it features firefighter Dean Christopherson, Adeline Reynolds and her service dog Coco. I love a strong female lead. Even though Adeline had her medical issues she was no pushover. And Dean? Well, he definitely has a way with words. I mean he REALLY knows how to say what is EXACTLY on his mind. He is delicious with a mouth made for sin! In this book, unlike the others in the series, the story line was more about the relationship between Adeline and Dean. The threat to her was more of a background story that came to the forefront every now and then throughout the book. There was the right amount of suspense and it progressed steadily. Susan Stoker always writes fantastic stories but it's the amazing characters that have me hooked. They're always so real and down-to-earth. It doesn't hurt that they're easy on the eyes , they're all heroes in one way or another and their leading ladies are equally amazing. I can't express how excited I am for the next book in this fantastic series!

Another winner from Susan Stoker..I highly enjoy her writing and this one was no different. I loved Adeline and Dean together, Adeline has a service dog to alert her when she's going to have a seizure and most of her dates can handle it. Dean is a welcome surprise who sees Adeline for her and not defined be her illness. As Dean and Adeline get closer there is someone in the shadows watching and plotting. This book has passion, heart, suspense, and action that kept me on the edge of my seat. This book also sets up for the next book in the series and I can't wait to read it.

Adeline now knows why there's a stigma attached to blind dates. The past few she's gone on, courtesy of a dating website, have proven that the stigma is in fact truth. However, this one tops them all. Adeline has epilepsy, something her date was aware of prior to their meeting, but apparently, his assurance that he was fine with it was only in theory. During the meal, her service dog, Coco, alerted that a seizure was imminent, which means she needs to get to a safe place quickly. Her date is a jerk and leaves her their by herself. Dean, aka Crash, a firefighter, is having lunch with a friend when he notices the attractive woman in the restaurant. Unfortunately, she's there with another man, but when he leaves Crash notices something isn't right. He approaches the woman and learns what's about to happen. Crash takes her to his nearby fire station and ensures she's taken care of. Adeline can't believe how helpful, and gorgeous, this stranger is being and that he isn't bothered by her illness. Afterwards,as they're talking they realize the connection is mutual and plan a date. Crash is tired of not having the unconditional love and support that a soul mate could bring. He wants the type of love his parents found and he's pretty sure Adeline may just be the one for him. As they get to know each other, it's obvious there's something lasting growing between them. It's also just as obvious that Adeline's seizures, and the situation with her creepy boss, Douglas, are getting worse. Crash is pretty sure Douglas is also hitting on Adeline, but she doesn't see it. When she's forced to travel due to a business meeting, Crash makes arrangements so she doesn't have to drive with her boss. Unfortunately, something happens that eventually causes a disagreement between Crash and Adeline. That's not Adeline's biggest concern right now though as her boss has decided the time has come for him to make his move. What happens when Adeline's boss gets impatient with waiting for her? Will Crash get to her in time? Can he and Adeline work though their differences? Will Adeline choose to have the surgery, a risky one, that could lessen her seizures? Will Crash and Adeline get their HEA? What kind of woman will it take to win Chief's heart (teaser at the end of the book)? What will the journey to their future entail? One-click now and follow along as two people find their way to a love that many can only dream of. I highly recommend this book and any others written by this author. She's been one of my favorites since I first discovered her and my addiction has steadily grown with each release. I do suggest reading the series in order though for the sake of continuity.

I was given this book for an honest review. This author writes fantastic stories with heroines who are strong, smart, beautiful and a little (ok a lot) sassy. Her heros are strong, smart, sexy and a little (ya ok a lot) overprotective. She also isn't afraid to write characters that aren't perfect and are dealing with issues we have. Corrie was blind, Adeline has to deal with epilepsy and she's had other characters that have had to deal with other issues. With Adeline we get a woman who is strong enough to deal with her epilepsy in a way where she can still have a life, which is where wonderful service dog comes in. But to, like a lot of us, we are looking for more. Hopefully the other part of us. Dean 'Crash' Christopherson is like most of the fire fighter/first responders/EMT's I know. Willing to in when most want to turn away. He's ready to find his missing half, just not in the diner across the street from the station! Yeah he is a tad over protective (read a lot) and that causes some issues with Adeline and her need to be independent. In this story she gives us a strong romantic story with a little suspense thrown in. Susan Stoker is a wonderful author/storyteller. She takes you into her world(s) and at the end of the book you are not ready leave.

Susan Stoker has another hit on her hands with this book. It is the 7th in the Badge of Honor series. It can be read in order with the series or it can be read as a stand alone. I loved this book. Per the usual Susan Stoker books, it touchs on some everyday issues. This book touches on seizures and multiple personalities disorder. It is well written and the flow and speed of the book are phenominal! You can't go wrong with this book (and the series)!!

Another great book from Mrs. Stoker! I have read all of her books, some of them multiple times, and loved each one. I love the vulnerable, but so very strong, heroines and the potective and sweet alpha males she creates. I cant wait for the next one!!

Not only do I love Adeline and Crash, but this story elaborated on Chief as well. Holy crap it makes me excited for the next book! Shelter for Adeline was awesome, such a strong female lead who knew her own mind and was determined her disability wouldn't get her down. Along with her is Crash, who is also a strong Alpha and is perfect for her!

Loved this book! I have loved all the books in this series and this one did not disappoint me. I don't want to give away too much of the story so let me just say that the way Dean adores Adeline was wonderful to read. Plus, I have to love any book with a dog as a main character. As I said, loved this book.

A fabulous addition to the Badge of Honor series. Shelter for Adeline is a delightful romance with just enough suspense to get your heart racing. I love the fact that the characters are diverse and well developed, each with flaws that make them all too human. I also like how the story incorporates characters that have issues that, while said issues affects them, it doesn't define them. Strong characters and story line make this a definite recommended read from me.

Author Susan Stoker has once again produced a truly excellent story delighting this reader with her hallmark inclusion of a strong male character as the hero, Dean "Crash" Christopherson, fireman and paramedic, along with a strong female character as the heroine, Adeline Reynolds, a marketing guru suffering from epilepsy. This strong but vulnerable woman and how she deals with her handicap really drives the story. Although Adeline champions her independence, due in part to her awesome alert dog, Coco, she discovers through the course of this story that independence isn't as freeing as she has visualized it to be. After meeting Crash and experiencing his protection, understanding and willingness to let her fly free when reasonable Adeline comes to realize that having people who care assist her when needed is more freeing than acting alone all the time. Susan Stoker tells her readers a fun and poignant story here with well described scenes, excellent dialogue and a heartwarming "happily ever after." Anyone who picks up this book will undergo a truly enjoyable reading experience.

I received a copy in return for an honest review. I love this series and Shelter for Adeline has become one of my favorites. I loved that Ms. Stoker focused on the courtship. This is a true romance. Adeline isn't sure if Dean can be believed but Dean is persistent (and I adored it!). He isn't looking for a wham bam thank you mam and when he finds what he is looking for in Adeline he gives her the time for her to reach wanting forever with him. I love that he wants to get to know Adeline before a sexual relationship clouds their feelings. Anticipation is wonderful when falling in love and Ms. Stoker understand and builds upon those feelings for us and them. I also like when I learn something and in this story, I received an education on epilepsy. Ms. Stoker gave me just enough knowledge that I could appreciate Adeline's worries, fears and courage. Dean understood as well as anyone without the problem what Adeline wanted for her future, he just wanted to make sure he became something she would fight to keep. This story was well written. Full of laughter, joy and love. I enjoyed catching up with old friends and can't wait to see where Ms. Stoker will take us next.

This is a wonderful love story. Let me say this: Dean “Crash” Christopherson has to be the most romantic hero Ms. Stoker has ever written…and I loved every minute I spent reading about him. I could not imagine a more perfect foil for his awesomeness than Adeline, and reading how well suited for each other they were allowed me to enjoy the story all the more. This book is unlike others by author Susan Stoker in that this book focuses more on the falling in love aspect of the couple, versus the outside conflicts that bring them together. Don’t get me wrong-the heat and passion are still there-but the hero Dean, (or “Crash” to his squad), is very in touch with who he is, what he wants out of life and a relationship and more importantly-how and in what way he wants to make Adeline his-forever. Adeline is a strong woman in a stressful job field who has had epilepsy all of her life. She has had to deal with prejudice and ignorance in regards to her disease, from everyone from her coworkers, strangers on the street and men she has been dating. Just when she thinks it can’t get any worse than the blind date from hell she is on, Dean literally comes to her rescue and when she took his hand in the diner, little did she know that she would be keeping hold of it for the rest of her life. There is the inevitable bad guy who wants to do the fair Adeline harm, but never fear…this book has a happy ending…Crash and his friends have her back and all is right in the end. Speaking of friends-I CAN NOT wait for Chief’s story!!! I want it like…now. Yes, his story now would be quite good. I totally and wholeheartedly recommend this book. It is well written and a pleasure to read, and on these cold, icky days of January-the perfect book to pick up and snuggle down with. I give this book 5 gigantic stars. I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review

I love Susan's series. They show different aspects of life and it's challenges because while there is a common theme among her books (Delta Forces, Seals, Texas Rangers, etc), the stories are all their own. Shelter for Adeline is no different. Susan likes to take chances in her books and, boy, does she with this one. The heroine is epileptic and has a service dog. Not easy to deal with in real life let alone in a story. Dean is a total alpha but all the feels and romance. His romance of Adeline is sweet and drop dead drool worthy. His acceptance of her condition and learning to deal with how she deals with it is sweet and believable. I loved her fire and passion about living her life. I think that is what I enjoy most about these books. These are characters I would want to hang out in real life and nothing is over the top. I'll be honest and say that this could have been an absolutely sweet romance and no need for a antagonist, but having one is Susan's style and just gives us more to envy of Adeline and Dean's love story. Seeing characters from previous books keeps those stories alive and relevant plus introduces us to others. Is it hard to believe that that much hotness exists in one area? Sometimes. But Susan gives us believable stories so we could experience for ourselves

Adeline was the perfect balance between vulnerability and strength. She stood up for herself and did not let anyone walk all over her with one exception. All of Susan's heroines are strong but I think Adeline may be one of the strongest. Crash was an awesome hero. Steadfast and gentle. He did not push Adeline for anything and wanted to take things slow, as a gentleman should. He was also a dirty talker!! Yummo! I think this book is slightly more erotic than previous books in the series. There was the normal hero must save the heroine which I love, btw!! It also gives you a preview into the next book in the series. Chief and Sophie. I fell in love with Chief in this book. Just as much as I did Crash. I don't read a lot of MF books. I read mostly MM. Susan Stoker is one of my auto-buy authors. I love her writing style. I will be buying a retail copy of this book on release day. ***ARC provided for an honest review***

Susan Stoker has done it again. This book is a must read! Shelter for Adeline is an excellent addition to an awesome series. I love how she has a knack to make the hero/heroine feel like friends. It was refreshing that they didn’t just fall into bed, you get to see Adeline’s insecurities with her illness, and Dean’s nervousness at asking her out. It allows us, as readers, to get to know the characters. The fact that her characters are like real people, with real problems, instead of an unattainable fantasy is just another thing that puts Susan Stoker at the top of my list of favorite authors. Shelter for Adeline is well written, funny, touching, and definitely a new favorite. I fell in love with Adeline, Dean and Chief in this book, I can’t wait to read the next installment!
