His life is chaos and confusion. It's a storm of uncertainty and raging emotion.

Sutton Warner is a mess. Everything in his life feels like it's unraveling.

He's let a lot of people down lately, including his daughter. Sutton always promised his little girl he would never disappoint her and that he would always be there when she needed him. Until he wasn't.

The truth is, he's used to disappointing the women in his life. First was his mother who couldn't find a reason to stick around when he was growing up. Then there's his ex. The woman who takes unbridled delight in making his life incredibly complicated. Luckily, his daughter is still young enough to believe her old man is some kind of hero. But, he knows the day is coming when she realizes the truth, which is, he's just a man with some serious flaws and a list of ever-growing weaknesses.

Finally, there's the woman he's desperately trying to forget with every shot tossed back and each pill popped.

He more than disappointed Emrys...he almost got her killed.

Her love is steady and sure. It's a shelter shaped by conviction and silent assurance.

Emrys Santos is lost. Everything in her life feels pointless and futile.

She's been busy running away from her feelings and all the people who love her the most-including her best friend, the one person who knows exactly what she's been through.

They promised to always stick together and to lean on one another. It was a promise Em had to break so she could lick her wounds and figure out her next move. For once, there is no easy way out of the tangled web of emotions she's caught up in, and right now, she recognizes that all roads lead back to Wyoming...and back to Sutton.

The man she nearly got killed.

Shelter is a standalone novel, the second book in the Getaway series, which features the hardheaded and brokenhearted Warner brothers and the women who dare to love them. These boys are very good at putting the wild in wilderness.

I really enjoyed Shelter. So while this book (series) is very different from the Marked Men series, it is still an excellent story. My only criticism would be s bit of a slow start, but power through, new readers, Jay did it again!

Sutton and Em are both in a bad place after book one. They have recovered from the worst of the physical wounds but the mental scars are deep. Sutton is drowning himself in booze and pills and Em has disappeared and no one knows where she is. Sutton feels like he has disappointed every female in his life and he blames himself for Em being hurt. Em is feeling responsible for Sutton being shot trying to save her. As if they had not been through enough someone is out to destroy Sutton's life. The author brought us some mystery and suspense and it was totally a surprise who was behind it. I loved the characters as we get to know them even more. Some of the secondary characters are back to help the Warner's. Jay captivated me from the first page and kept me reading right to the end. Off to read Getaway #3 now.

Second brother's story is as good as the first. Will start the third book tomorrow. Hope there is a story for "Ten" and the sort of criminal.

I liked this one even better than the first book in this series. Sutton and Em are great characters and I loved how they got over what they went through. The suspense aspect from the first book carries over into this one (in a different way), which I was so happy about. The action keeps you reading into all hours of the night.

This book is now one of my favorites. All the emotions this book had, I was crying at parts of it and laughing at other parts. It was the best, most heartbreaking story I have ever read. Sutton and Em were so perfect and Sutton’s daughter Daye was just perfect. If you read any books at all this year, I strongly recommend this one.

Jay Crownover met--and exceeded--my expectations again. She is the only romance writer that I read every book without question. In Shelter, I knew we'd have to go back to Wyoming to check in with the Warner boys, but I wasn't expecting quite so much drama and chaos to come with Sutton. Of course, it was done so skillfully that I couldn't put the book down until I knew how it would end. And the end set up the next book perfectly. I can't wait to read Lane's story! Thank you, Jay, for always creating stories that I want to read!

This book is the perfect blend of romance and suspense. It kept me on the edge of my seat (a friend was reading her copy at the same time and when she gave me an update to where she was at I said you're about to reach the point of no return. You won't be able to put the book down). I know some of her readers think this series is quite the departure from her other series but I honestly think I love it more. I find it it a little more relate-able than her other series (which I do adore...I just don't relate to as much. I'm pretty sure I'd adore her grocery list). I am definitely recommending (and probably gifting a few copies) to all of my friends that enjoy a good romance.

Shelter is an emotion filled book. Sutton and Emrys have already been through a lot together, and they go through a whole lot more in Shelter. They're both strong, and sometimes stubborn, individuals, and are even stronger together. They make each other better individuals without changing who they are. I loved seeing the journey they take to to get that point. It may be rough, but they need to experience it all to get to where they need to be. I really enjoyed Sutton and Em, and especially Daye, she was adorable. Shelter has a very interesting storyline that kept me intrigued and at times surprised. I always enjoy single dad stories and that was once again true with Sutton and Daye. A lot of stuff happens in Shelter, but it's not overwhelming. I actually wish there was more towards the end. With everything that happens I would have liked more after all of "that" goes down. It just seemed a tad rushed to wrap things up and I wish it would have slowed down and been drawn out a little more. I love the whole Warner gang and their personalities, they keep me entertained and intrigued. I'm excited for Escape next month and to dive into Lane's head.

Jay Crownover continues to be a one-click author for me. I loved "Retreat" the first book in the Getaway Series and was excited to start Sutton and Emrys story and see where this ride was going to go. Their story has it all, drama, suspense, romance, chemistry, and redemption. I was immediately drawn in and couldn't stop reading until I finished (which is a common occurrence when I read one of Jay's books). I love that Jay always writes these multi-dimensional female characters. Emrys is a character that I think many can relate to and I loved watching her come into her own. Emrys and Sutton find what they need in each other and it is a wonderful process to watch. You don't necessarily need to read "Retreat" to read "Shelter" but you really should. This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

There really isn't a Jay Crownover book that I haven't loved, her writing is always on point and always manages to grab my attention from the get go. In Shelter, Sutton and Em are trying to come to terms with the events that brought them together in the past, these events affected them deeply and this book is about them finding solace, comfort and love with one another, but apart from the love story we get to see the inner workings of a wonderful family and how they always support each other. The book also has some mysterious things happening that to me elevated this book to 5 stars, the way Jay Crownover told this story, especially from Em's PoV is so good, she did an excellent job that just shows the kind of writer that she is. I truly can't wait for the next book!

This is the second book in the Getaway series and while this can absolutely be read on a stand alone basis, I would personally recommend reading book one first. I was really looking forward to reading this as I loved Retreat and overall I wasn't disappointed. Once again, the relationship between the Warner brothers was a real high light, I simply love the connection that these brothers have with one another. Another absolute highlight from this book was Daye, she constantly pulled at my heartstrings while making me smile all at the same time. We knew from Retreat that the path to a HEA wasn't going to be easy for Sutton and Emrys after what they went through in Retreat and their journey is one that you really get behind and a couple that you will undoubtedly route for. What I did miss from them, however, was a little emotional spark or connection from them at the beginning that really cemented their relationship early on. Romance aside, this story had a really interesting and suspenseful storyline that kept me guessing and interested throughout. This was another solid read from this story and I can't wait for Escape which is up next. I'm also hoping there may be a little spin off from some of the other character's we've been introduced to as I feel there is plenty of stories to come yet.
