Shiftless (Wolf Rampant Series #1) by Aimee Easterling

Terra is shiftless --- a werewolf uncomfortable in her own animal skin.

A decade after learning to squash her wolf and flee the repressive village where she grew up, the packless ache still gnaws at Terra's insides. But despite her yearnings, she struggles against being reeled back into her old life.

To Terra's dismay, her father and half a dozen of his henchmen finally ambush her and demand her return. Yet they do offer one way out --- hunt down her nephew Keith, teach him to shift, and bring the youngster back into the fold in her place.

Problem upon problem piles up as Terra strives to do her father's bidding. The female shifter has hidden from her wolf for so long that she finds herself unable to change back into canine form, and she also realizes that her nephew is too good-natured to survive for a minute walking in his grandfather's footsteps. Plus, there's an alpha standing in her way who's equal parts enticing and terrifying.

Will Terra be able to relearn her werewolf abilities --- and overcome her morals --- before her father steals away her hard-earned independence? And as that tantalizing alpha reels her in closer and closer, the question becomes --- does she really want to stay away?

Don't miss the first book in a series that has been described as a "good choice for Patricia Briggs fans."

About the Author

Aimee Easterling is a USA Today Bestselling author writing on the boundary between urban fantasy and paranormal romance. She specializes in spunky shifters and invites you to dive into her werewolf world in the Wolf Rampant trilogy and the spinoff Bloodling serial.

Studying biology and working as a naturalist have both informed Aimee's writing, but she's quite willing to let reality slide in favor of a good story. When not writing, she loves to read and always keeps books by Robin McKinley, Patricia Briggs, and Elizabeth Peters on her shelf. You can learn more at

I started reading the stories ofAimee's shifter world with this one. As soon as I finished I found everything else in the series as well as signed up for her email list (a first for me). The characters are fun and even the villains have legit feelings. The stories are fun to read and I look forward to the next one.

Good shifter book with romance in the background but not explicit sex. Would recommend.

This book tells the story of the early days of Wolfie and Terra. You may have read about Wolfie before in some of Aimee's other wolf tales. Terra is doing her best to survive in a human world by suppressing her wolf. She has fled from her pack and her alpha father and tried to avoid other wolves. She first meets Wolfie in his wolf form with a collar and a leash. His "owner" assures Terra that they just want to sit and talk to her, but she knows that Wolfie is an alpha male and not a pet. She gets away from them, only to run into an even worse problem - her father. He tells her that she can either come home and give him a grandson as an heir, or find her nephew and help him turn for the first time and bring him to the pack. Terra did not even know she had a nephew. To make matters worse, Wolfie's pack lives nearby and Wolfie has claimed her nephew as part of his pack of misfits. He also plans to help Terra make nice with her wolf, and with his. Many things will go wrong, and some things will go right, before all this is sorted out. Join Wolfie and his band of rejected wolves as they storm their way into Terra's heart. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I wouldn't call the ending a cliffhanger, but it does leave you wanting more.

This is not a cliffhanger. Aimee Easterling wrote a wonderful book full of details about a separate world of werewolves. She used her words to fill out the details of a fantasy world where humans could live a secret life with required expectations. Terra escaped from her cruel Alpha father's domain for a decade. She left behind the restricted world of domination by keeping her wolf caged. She never intended to go back to Haven... Wolfie met Terra when she came into town. Chase is his milk brother and the Beta to his Alpha. Terra was filled with fear when she saw the werewolf in his wolf skin on a leash held by werewolf in his human form. She identified Wolfie as an Alpha male when his command stopped her in her tracks. This book is a series written with the skill and finesse of Anne McCaffery or Robert Heinlin. They created worlds with details and information that enabled me to build worlds of fiction. Anne McCaffery took me into space with brain ships and brauns or colonies on a planet wheredragons lived. "Number of the Beast" by Robert Heinlein created a world of dimensions where well loved books were tales of real people. This book is a good read. If you're expecting the explicit sex scenes in otherwerewolf novels, you will be disappointed. The author leaves sexual encounters to the reader's imagination instead of spelling out every encounter with thorough, minute detail as other authors do. This book is appropriate for young adults, but not children. I will be looking for another book in this series!!!

It s a good story line I just don't like how weak Terra is made to be. The separation of packs makes no sense.

Good read

It does read like a YA novel, but to me, that is not a detraction from its value. I am 43 and I sometimes like a good fun read without two chapters of steamy nonsense when what I want is plot. This book keeps flowing naturally without any boring filler or inner goddess nonsense. The rules of her Werewolf society are inserted seamlessly as needed, without distracting the reader from the characters or the suspense of the situations. If you are looking for a fresh new look at werewolves this is a good series/book.  If  you Hot steamy scenes, then this book is not for you , but the author does portray the romance and an emotional and physical attraction/longing very well.  A real page turner.
