Love can be the best trophy and the sweetest consolation prize.
Dominic is flirty, swoon-worthy and tattooed. He's only ever truly loved one woman - Hailee - the one that got away. But that was a lifetime ago. She left a scar on his heart so deep that no bunny would ever fill it. No girl measured up to his Hailee – not that he wanted anyone to. If he was lucky enough to find her again, he wasn't going to let her go so easily.
Hailee is stubborn, talented, tattooed, and not the kind of woman to let a man take care of her. She refuses to sit in the kitchen and bake pies for anyone. She is her own woman and plans to stay that way. That's why she had to leave Dominic all those years ago. Hailee kept herself hidden away in a hockey-free bubble, avoiding all aspects of the game and eliminating the possibility of running into him. Her heart missed Dominic, but her brain knew that she couldn't be what he needed. It was just better this way. She had her own dreams and wasn't about to give up on them, even if it meant giving him up.
When all things in her life finally start to fall neatly into place, one thing is still missing. Dominic.
Dominic was used to shutting out teams on the ice, but didn't like being shutout by her. Hailee already had his heart, all she had to do was take down the walls she built, and stop playing games.
About the Author
Melody was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she lives with her husband, son, cat and puppy. She likes to read when she isn't writing or watching a Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game. You can often find her at the local Starbucks ordering her favorite drink, Iced Mocha.
The whole family are avid Pittsburgh Penguins fans and like going to hockey games when they get the chance. Having met some of the players has fueled her interest in writing about them and creating wonderful stories.
Melody has loved writing since she was small, in school she never met a creative writing assignment that she didn't love. She is lucky enough to have a wonderful husband who encourages her to write. When she was laid off from her job of 14 years, he was supportive about letting her stay home and take care of their son. During that time she discovered hockey-romances and found a renewed love of reading as well as a passion for writing.
She spends her spare time reading hockey romances. At holiday time she really enjoys any romance about Christmas. When it is the hockey off-season, she enjoys swimming and spending her days out in the sun. Basically if she’s not writing or reading, then she’s doing something that has to do with hockey!

Melody Heck Gatto’s SHUTOUT is a heartwarming story and wonderful addition to the Renegades series. Goalie Dominic Zanetti has only ever loved his high school girlfriend, Hailee Valentine. He is still confused to why she broke things off with him. They are reunited in a different county three years later, and he is determined to win her back. This contemporary sports romance takes place in Pittsburgh and Vaughn, Ontario. It is suitable for new adults and adult audiences. Melody Heck Gatto does a great job with her character development. Hailee is a likeable heroine. She is an aspiring artist and art gallery owner who is determined to make it on her own. She does not want to be a kept woman. I like that her tattoos are designed by her. Dom has always loved Hailee. He was heartbroken and confused when she broke up with him. He is a great guy with a big heart. Okay maybe he’s not a great guy to the puck bunnies, but whatever; they got what they wanted from him. I love how persistent he is with Hailee. I love both Hailee’s Canadian (Mia) and U.S. (Alison) BFFs. They both tell it as it is and not what she wants to hear. They know her better than she knows herself. They care about her and want what is best for her. I appreciated that Tyler Kidd’s and Paige Martin’s from book three, PLAYING THE GAME wedding was in this story. That made some interesting scenarios in the novel with both the bachelor party and wedding. Plus, it was a nice tie-in to the earlier book. I enjoyed the plot. I thought it was clever how Dom and Hailee are reunited. I love that this couple gets a second chance. They have multiple obstacles to overcome. I like that the misconception that tore them apart is cleared up. I like how Hailee apologizes at the end of the story. It was a cute ending. Melody Heck Gatto’s SHUTOUT was an excellent addition to the Renegades series. I’m looking forward to reading what she comes up with next. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Let me start by saying as much as I loved Tyler Kidd's book in this series, I think Dominic might just top Tyler. I love Dominic's story. His past with Hailee is heartbreaking. One of those "you want to reach through the book and slap some sense into that girl" kind of story. There are very few men out there who would be as understanding as Dominic (they do exist FYI). All I'm saying is Hailee is lucky he was still in love with her. Melody did a great job making their story seem realistic and unique. When you have read as many books as I have, they sometimes get repetitive. I can honestly say that I was not bored at any point in this book. I was so excited to finally see Dom get his own story. I have wanted to hear his story since his very first appearance in the series. The fact that I have a serious goalie obsession is not important! The tattoos help too! This really was a good book. Dom comes face to face with his past in the most unlikely place. The encounter was quite amusing. Neither Dom nor Hailee were expecting to see each other again. Now that they have been thrown back together though, Dom wants to finally understand why she left him all those years ago. There are some seriously tissue worthy moments in this book. The sticker on the bottom of the ring box is very important to the story so make sure you pay attention. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. I hope to see more of Matt. I really want to know his story, especially after what we learn in this book. I can't wait to see more from Kaden too. You won't be disappointed with this book. It is well worth the read!!!!
