Great book. I'm now in love with 2 of the 3 couples and I might fall for the 3rd. Warning: Ends on a cliff hanger

The ultimate second chance love story. Slate has changed in more more ways than one but for rayna he is and always will be "the one". From the beginning until the end i LOVE this couple! Each book in this series is a bit short at 120-150 pages but if your looking for a really quick read that you cant put down then this is perfect!

Loving this series! Favorite Quotes: “No. You are Superman, but sometimes even Superman needs to be saved.” “Babe, what you see in my eyes, it’s got nothing to do with me. And why you’re the only one who sees it… Well, that because that glint is nothing more than the reflection of you. You are and always have been that light you speak of in my eyes.” “Some boys will keep it, some will break it, and some boys they just won’t want it. You gotta be careful who you give your heart to.” “I want to be his any and everything. At this moment, all I want is to be his.” My Review: Another well-written and thoughtful second chance romance from Kelly Gendron. I am thoroughly enjoying this series, already itching to read the next one, and find myself wishing that the Declan clan consisted of more than 3 brothers. Slate, like all Ms. Gendron’s books, is engrossing, easy to follow, touching, and deliciously steamy. Slate was a quick yet detailed read, which went back and forth in the timeline between the present day and the childhood memories from both main characters’ POV. I like that and find it a creative and efficient method to narrate this heartbreaking and touching story.

4.5 stars When I first read Jax (the first book in Breaking the Declan Brothers Series), I loved all of them but I knew that Slate's story will be one of the most heartbreaking stories I've ever read. And I was completely right. The book is intriguing and once I started reading, I was completely pulled into it and didn't put it down until the very last word. The story is a clever combination of heartbreak, laughter and pantie melting hot scenes. The characters are quite interesting and entertaining. I am pretty sure you will fall in love with both Slate and Rayna :) Slate is quite the dominant alpha male but you will definitely not see that from the beginning of the story. After a tragic accident few years after he lost his first love, he loses also his direction in life. He changes from the kind and compassionate man Rayna knew to a constantly angry and rude man with a heart made of stone. Or at least that's what he presents to the world. All that changes in matter of days when Slate and Rayna are forced to spend time together. Even though Rayna's only goal is to break his heart, she still cares about him and does everything in her power to heal the scars and demons Slate hides from the world. And behind his mask, she finds the only man she could ever love, not the kind and compassionate boy, but a strong and dominant man, with a heart of gold and ready to fight for the only woman he ever loved. I have to say that Slate and Rayna definitely burn up the sheets together and that brought some pretty hot scenes that simply left me breathless :) The only thing that I was sorry about is that the story finished too fast :D I would of loved to get some more of Slate ;) One thing that was kind of a minus for me was the unrealistic amount of time that Slate needed to recover. From what I know about the things he had to overcome, it is not something that happens for 2-3 days but much longer period of time. Apart from that I so loved the book :) So, in few words, this is a great short read. The story is intriguing and entertaining with some humorous scenes and some pretty hot ones, so if you don't have a good poker face, I don't recommend reading it in public :D Slate and Rayna are a great couple and the chemistry between them is off the charts, you can feel it through every word :) So far the first two book in the series are definitely some of my favorites so I can't wait for the third book in the series. Zeke and Lurlene will be definitely an interesting couple :D This review was originally posted at Living In Our Own Story Book Blog. I received an ARC of the book in exchange of an honest review.

Oh Slate! What a tortured soul. When Rayna sees him again after a 6 year absence, she almost doesn't recognize him. She remembers a sweet guy that treated her like a queen but now he's angry and fights all the time. As she peels back the layers, she finds that the guy she remembers is still in there if only she can get him to see the light and overcome the trauma from the fire. Slate doesn't see himself as worthy of anyone's love so when Rayna pushes her way back into his life, he's not sure what to make of it. All he knows is that he prefers the darkness of the drugs and fighting, will he have the courage to step back into the light?

I am a sucker for MMA fighters and when I read what Jax (the first book in this series) was about, I knew it was gonna be a favorite series for me. I loved Jax but Slate stole my heart from him. The Declan Brothers are all sexy and recently thought to be single forever. They would not let any woman get close enough to steal their hearts. When you are determined as Rayna is to help Slate, you have to know that he will lose his heart soon. After his Grams store burnt and Slate got injured in the fire, he had a hard recovery and getting hooked on anything that would help with the pain. And then when he was not high he was fighting. It was what helped him fight the aggression. Can Rayna help him to beat the addiction? Will Slate tell her what really happened in the fire? This is a great story and I can't wait for Zeke's. If Zeke's story is better than Slate, I might not be able to handle it. Oh hell yeah I will, bring on the third Declan Brother. **Copy provided by the author in exchange for my honest review**

WOW, I loved Jax the 1st book and thought Kelly Gendron could not top that book but she has with Slate. I loved Slate and Rayna’s story. I loved that way Kelly did this book. You got not only a glimpse of what was going on in the present but also you got to see parts of their past. It help you understand the friendship, bond, relationship, and love between the two. Rayne was determined to break Slate. He broke her heart, so it was time for payback. The problem was Rayne was not expecting to see Slate so broken. She knew when she laid eyes on him he was not the same Slate that she had fell in love with. The spark that use to be in his eyes was not there. His eyes had no emotion. They had a hollow look to them. What she was not expected was to find that he was a drug addict. How did that happen? What drove him to that point? Could she stand by and allow the man she once love be an addict to drugs and dead inside? Slate did not want to feel. He sure as hell was not expecting the love of his life Rayne to walk back into his life. He used drugs to dull the pain, but that did not stop him from hallucinating and seeing his little monkey. Slates drug problem was hurting so many people that he loved including a real innocent person. What would it take to get him to turn his life around? Can he learn to feel again? Will him and Rayne ever be able to work things out or will the drugs consume his life until nothing is left? There is a part of Slate that you will get to see in this book. Sorry I am not going to tell you if it is the past or present but it is the romanic part of Slate. See Slate can be a panties melter. I truly loved some of the things he said to Rayne. No wonder there was times she fell hard for him. He as her Superman. I loved this book and so can not wait to see what happens in the 3rd book.

Characters are a little bit of a contradiction... one minute they're using words like "ain't no..." & the next they're phrasing their sentences as if they're college students working on their dissertation. Was a little weird.

Rayma and Slate became friends as kids when Slate had ran some bullies off and fixed a stuffed animal for Rayma. Rayma got herself into a lot of sticky situations but Slate always seemed to save her. Rayma gets her heart broke by Sate but he did it to give her her freedom to make a better life. Rayma had left the Bayou six years earlier with a broken heart. Slate had been in a fire and had several surgeries and he shut himself down so he would not feel the pain. Also Slate was touched so much since the fire that he doesn’t like anyone to touch him anymore. Slate ends up getting hooked on pain pills and from there it’s anything he can get his hands on. Slate has been high for three years. Rayma decides to step in and stays with Slate for three days while the withdrawal phase of Slate’s addiction is over then it’s all up to him if he stays clean. Then Slate sees Rayma in the bar talking to someone else and tells Rayma he will show her who she belongs with. But Rayma says she isn’t going there again. I liked this story a lot. The plot was good as well as the writing. The only thing I really have to say against this story is an addict must stay clean for themselves nit someone else and it is still hard. It would also take more to fight the urges to get high again. But besides that this story is great. I was also happy with the ending. Also the twists and turns of the story but also the twists and turns Rayma and Slate went through. I recommend. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

Another great book to this series. It is in the 2nd in the 3 book series. You do not have to read the others, but more enjoyable if you did. It is about 148 pages and full of hot loving, history between the two main characters, and just plain good. Highly recommended.****

Second book in the trilogy and a bit better than the first since it gives more of the history between the characters... Slate is a great guy, badly burned in a fire which leads to serious drug addiction... His brothers try everything to get and keep him clean but it isn't until the girl from his past returns that he realizes there is a reason to start over... A sad but beautiful story of second chances and redemption...

This series just keeps getting better. Such an emotional ride of heartbreak' and healing. By far my favorite book out of the two so far. Where Jax's story was a sweet struggle Slate's struggle will absolutely break your heart. Rayna has never forgotten her first love, Slate Declan. They grew up together and fell in love as teenagers, she thought they would always be together, Slate was everything she could ever dream of. Until that day she found him in bed with another woman. Heartbroken and lost, Rayna flew town and wound up in New York with her best friend Emmie. Now Rayna and her friends are back in town and they have a surprise for the Declan Brothers, they are going to break their hearts just like they broke theirs. Slate Declan is not the same man Rayna left behind. Scarred emotionally and physically, Slate hides behind drugs to get through life. If he isn't fighting MMA then he is high or passed out. When Rayna comes back to town Slate knows it is just a matter of time until she sees how "ugly" he has become both inside and out. Slate knows how to handle Rayna though, he'll just push her away and run her off just like before. When Rayna sees Slate for the first time it is just a shadowed hood covered figure so when she sees hims fighting and gets a full look at his scarred body and dead eyes she is terrified. What happened to the beautiful man with the smile in his eyes. Rayna and Slate have rough journey getting to their HEA. Their are tough times, when it looks like all is lost but their love for each other is as strong as ever and that alone will push them through the crisis. I absolutely adored this book. I cried, I laughed and I drooled at the steamy scenes. Ms. Gendron brought the characters and their pain to life in this book. Cannot wait for Zeke's story.
