Ms. Gayle wove a story full of adventure, secrets, love and strong women. She takes us on a journey from the Americas to England where Nicole Keller, the heroine, meets up with Chad Masters, Earl of Gilchrest. Nicole or Nikki to her friends is a very headstrong and independent woman, finding she has to take over after her father sank with his ship and everything they owned was mortgaged to help secure a loan to expand his shipping business. Besides losing her father she also loses her childhood friend, Charlie. Trying to find a way to support her mother along with herself, a letter arrives from her estranged Uncle in England. With nowhere to go and nothing to do Nikki and her mother head to England, her mother retreats more into herself to where she is a shell of a woman once they arrive. This leaves Nikki dealing with all the problems. Her Uncle has ulterior motives wishing to wed her off to the Marquis of Bowerstock who is well into his eighties. Nikki finds out later that her uncle wanted her to marry the same man over twenty years ago. She finds a man who has a warped perception of what is proper to do with family members. If he were living now he would have been put away a long time ago with no hope of ever getting out of jail. Her mother escaped her uncle’s clutches and so would she. As she escapes her uncle’s house with her mother she ends up deeper and deeper into the rough side of London. Finding help from a young street boy she ends up running into Chad whom she met a party her uncle made them attend. He helps her and her mother taking them to his castle. Marriage, romance, family secrets and plenty of suspense happen their way. Ms. Gayle weaves a delightful tale that keeps you entertained and wanting to keep turning those pages to find out what happens next. Not wanting to give away any secrets you will have to read this enjoyable story that not only captivates the reader but steals your heart as well. Reviewed by Robin. Book Provided by Publisher.
