Overview

Someone Else's Skye by Christine Wenrick

Kane, Brethan Guardian and one of the few Natural Shape-Shifters left in existence, survives the bloody battle of Brahm Hill---but loses two of his closest friends. For all of his good-natured sarcasm and eye-popping good looks, Kane finds himself unable to completely forget about that night, so he seeks comfort in the one thing he is truly good at...sex!

This shape-shifting bad boy believes in having a good time---a very good time---usually involving mingled heavy breathing with a sexy Dhampir in a tiny closet somewhere. But when Kane is sent into the freezing tundra of the Northwest Territories to investigate a troublesome supernatural being reported to be on the loose, he soon crosses path with a woman who almost instantly drives him insane with desire...because she doesn't seem to be falling for his charms.

It's completely inexplicable.

Skye Matthews has a job to do, and she needs to be focused on that, not spending all her time rebuffing the advances of this way-too-cockly and handsome stranger. Yet there is something irresistible about the self-involved playboy that she can;t seem to ignore. And when the 'Unidentified' Kane is sent to investigate takes an unnatural interest in Skye, protecting her becomes the Guardian's top priority.

But...can he save Skye from a supernatural being no one has ever encountered before?

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free as part of the ‘Someone Else’s Skye’ Blog Tour. Thanks to author Christine Wenrick, and Book Monster Promotions.) Kane is no stranger to women, as long as there are plenty of condoms, and no beds involved, he’s there, and so are they. He wants sex, but he doesn’t want a relationship, and that’s the way things are, until he meets Skye that is. 26-year-old Skye is blonde and beautiful, and also seems to get herself into dangerous situations, which is why Kane decides to detain her until he can work out what exactly she was doing facing some strange, unknown supernatural baddie, on her own, in the middle of nowhere. Skye isn’t about to tell him her secrets though, she has an assignment, and she plans to complete it. What is this unknown supernatural entity that seems to be killing people? Why does it seem oddly attracted to Skye? What is Skye’s assignment and why has her father sent her after this creature anyway? And will Kane change his womanising ways for Skye? This was a really good and sexy paranormal romance, with some really interesting and unique plot points. I really liked Skye, she was both fragile and commanding, all at the same time, and I loved the way that she captured Kane’s attention, even when she wasn’t trying. I liked the storyline in this book, although some of it was expected in a paranormal romance, I liked the way the author had taken time to add some really unique ideas to the story, that made the rest of the story just as good as the romance. There were also several little twist and turns that I didn’t see coming, and that really captivated the imagination, and I loved the way that the author had written stories about characters that readers of her previous series would easily recognise. The romance in this was sweet, it was sexy, and it was so full of emotion that it was blissful. I loved the way that Kane and Skye acted towards each other, and the love scenes were sizzling! This was definitely one of those books that makes you blush, and makes you want to read it all over again! The ending of this was happy and special, and I love that we are going to find out about the other men of this world in the other books in this series. Overall; a great adult paranormal romance, with oodles of sexiness. 8 out of 10.

Even though this is a first in a series, this is a spin off series and should ultimately be read after reading the Charmed trilogy. The big battle that starts this series is actually the climatic battle scene from the last book of the Charmed trilogy. The main characters from this story are actually secondary characters from the previous trilogy. So I think that, had I not read the Charmed trilogy, I’d have been lost going into this story. I really enjoyed catching up with all of the characters again. Since they were secondary characters in the previous storyline, we didn’t really get a chance to know them on a deeper level. So it’s nice to have them get their time in the lime light. Plus there was the added bonus that the “Angel” from The Charmed Fates turns out to be Skye. So like I said, the two series sort of interlock with each other. Skye is something that no one has ever witnessed before. She has special powers that don’t really classify her as any given supernatural that we’ve seen before. For instance the fact that she’s invisible to the lycans or why she’s always sent out on dangerous missions by her father. The entire time I was guessing what she was and it isn’t revealed until the end of the book. There was also the added mystery behind the Wraith. It appeared to be attracted to Skye and always seemed to pop up wherever she was. It was described at basically the Loony Toons version of the Tazmanian Devil. It’s just this force to be recon with that can take out trees, cars and is pretty much indestructible. I liked that this story had more than one thing that kept the reader guessing until the end. Yeah it’s a paranormal romance so you know that in the end they will be together but you don’t know what’s really going on between the Wraith and Skye until the very end. Plus, I also liked getting inside Kane’s head who was somewhat of a “tough-guy” in the last trilogy. I will definitely be keeping up with this series.

Oh My! I really loved this book! I had high hopes since it it was Christine who wrote it. Of course I was not dissapointed at all. This book and series is a new/spin-off series to "The charmed" triology and after reading it I was very happy to know that we would get some more of The Brethren. The plot of the book is perfect and there was no boring moments. There is always something happening but not to much at the same time. Just perfect. I know I am lifting this book high in the sky but for me it was just THAT good =). The main charachters of the book are Kane, the oh so sexy guardian Brethren and the witty and feisty Skye. I liked their personalities and they go so well together. I fell inlove with their playful banter and bickering. I could find myself reading in public and I was barely able to keep it together. Just pressing my lips tight to keep from laughing hysterically and looking like a crazy person lol. Kane is a playboy through and trough and has always been. Until he meets Skye... He tries to restist but just can´t. What I loved was that with him it was no games and no lies (almost). He was straight forward with Skye in regards to their relationship or whatever you can call it.... He is such a strong charachter who values friendship alot. He has a strong friendship with Aidan who I really liked. I hope we will get to know him more as the series goes on. Skye is also such a lovable charachter. She is a kick-ass and feisty heroine with a really smart mouth. She always know what to say and almost never get tounge tied...except when it comes to Kane. She has a really big heart and always puts everyone else before herself. Kane want's Skye badly but he always seems to want what he can't have. Skye want Kane bad too but she can't be with him. Why? Well you just have to read it. We also get some big twists and turns in the book that I loved and was really stunned by. This is the perfect beginning of a new series and I can´t wait to read the second book!

I know my blog doesn't reflect it these days, but I actually am a fan of Paranormal Romance, particularly Adult. Last year, I began reading The Charmed Trilogy by Christine Wenrick. It was a romantic and exciting take on vampires, dhampirs, and more, but it was an especially good romance. I was sad to see the series end early this year, but very excited when I learned there would be a spin-off, The Men of Brahm Hill. The first book in the spin-off, Someone Else's Skye picks up fairly quickly after the events at Brahm Hill that ended The Charmed Trilogy. It centers around Skye, a mysterious woman who showed up on the battlefield, seemingly immune to the danger, and Kane, a Guardian Shifter. And a sexy one, at that. In the aftermath of the Battle at Brahm Hill, the Guardians are regrouping, and recovering. A new type of supernatural being draws Kane to the North, where he once again crosses paths with Skye. This sets them both on a new and unexpected path. Kane, a serial ladies man, is confused by the overwhelming feelings he quickly develops for Skye. He's never felt the urge to pursue a relationship, and never planned to. He sets out to seduce Skye and learn her secrets along the way. Skye is a complete mystery, and she is definitely hiding some big secrets. I absolutely loved this part of the story, because I never expected the direction in which it turned. Besides uncovering what is truly going on, this book was also an intense and funny love story. Funny because Kane is a riot. It's not that he was cracking jokes or being silly, he was just the best kind of smartass. That's my favorite kind of humor and one most of the Men of this series employ. I love when an author can surprise me, and Wenrick did multiple times in Someone Else's Skye. I really didn't expect the paranormal aspects to take such in-depth and unique turns. I should expect it, though, because Wenrick did the same thing in her Charmed books, and that's one of the reasons I enjoyed them so much. The end of the story was pretty fabulous. Shocking revelations were made, on multiple fronts. Someone Else's Skye came to a very satisfying conclusion, and set up well for the next book in the series.

Looks like I have a new series to follow! Someone Else's Skye is a delightful paranormal romance with quite a few unexpected mysteries. The dialog is witty, the men are sexy and the twists are surprising and unexpected. This is a great book to whet the appetite of any fan of paranormal romances and most certainly anyone who loves shifters.  Kane is so sexy but such a wicked boy! OK let’s call a spade a spade and say it out right…he’s a man whore. He’s two life rules I find comical and you just KNOW they will come back to bite him in the butt. The one thing I truly found fascinating about him is that he is a Natural Shape-Shifters. I love books with shifters but never have I read a book where a shifter can change into many forms. I can’t say too much about Skye character without giving anything away so I will just say she sassy and quite the enigma. The interactions between the Kane and Skye run the gambit from funny to sensual. The cast of secondary characters I find quite charming and knowing this is a series, I can’t wait to read their stories. This is my first book by Christine Wenrick and I’m delighted to know that Men of Brahm Hill series is a spin-off from her Charmed Trilogy. Since I have a while until the next book I think I’ll give the previous series a whirl. As for Someone Else's Skye, I highly recommend reading this excellent book. It’s definitely a paranormal book worth reading. I received this book from JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated. Stars – 5 Flames - 3

A true adult paranormal romance for sure.. a sure read. Kane has his hands full with this one.. a young lass named Skye who seems to get into mischief and very bad situations although she does know what she's doing Kane doesn't and holds her back. Skye has a great aurora about her and Kane notices and things really do heat up. This is part of a series.

Someone Else's Skye 4.5 Stars One choice, One moment in time and None of their lives will be the same again!! This is the story of Kane a Brethren Guardian who fought alongside his comrades at Brahm Hill and witnessed a hell only a small few could ever truly come back from. Kane lives his life on the edge no attachments just a good time but the playboy image he portrays to those around him hides a much darker secret. Skye Matthews is on a mission. She has a job to do and nothing will stand in her way. Failure is not an option for her as in her line of work the consequences are unimaginable. A mysterious creature has appeared in The Northwest Territories and Kane a natural born shifter and Aiden are sent to investigate. Upon arriving the stories they hear don't appear to make any sense and to make matters worse there is a woman who seems determined to put herself in the centre of the danger. When Kane comes face to face with Skye the stubborn female in question he instantly feels connected to her and knows she won't give them what they want without a fight. Soon though they will come face to face with a creature none of them can explain and Skye will have to make a choice that could affect them all. Challenges will be faced and destinies realised but will they have the strength to stand side by side and fight another battle so soon!. Someone Else's Skye is so well written you just breathe in every word as you turn the pages just waiting to see what happen next. I loved this book and I am sure you will too! I don’t even know how to start.  I think HOT!  SEXY!  And that is just the beginning.   Kane is all that and more.   He is also a smart ass that knows what he wants and is going to get it one way or another.   When he takes Skye captive his whole world is turned upside down and I love seeing his usual self assured person so unsure of himself.   He has internal battles with himself about what is right and what he wants, which are not always the same thing.  I never dreamed in all the Charmed Series(click ß to check them out) books that Kane would be this complex, with a background that helps explain why he is a playboy.  Skye is an unknown of a whole different world.  I tried the whole book to figure out what she was.  I am so glad that I could not figure it out.  The surprise is worth the wait.  Skye is an extremely strong woman and is exactly what Kane needed to encounter.  Instead of falling at his feet swooning, she made him work for her attentions and it was fun to watch.  She puts him in his place many times and that throws Kane off his game.  There were many times I was scared for Skye and the wraith.   The fact that this seemingly dangerous “unidentified” is drawn to Skye made me worried that the ending could not be as I was wishing.  Christine Wenrick did it again.  I took this book with to my daughter’s soccer tournament, two whole days of soccer in the hot sun, and could not put it down.  I forced myself to during the games but was rather unsocial between games.    Book Two(ß click for info) the story of Alec, the leader of the Brethren cannot come soon enough.   I would suggest everyone check out the whole story of the Brethren start with The Charmed Series and now in The Men of Brahm Hill Series.

Gripping, epic and hot! Reviewer: Bex Rating: 5 out of 5 Fairies I think I have just found a new, absolute favourite adult PNR series to add to my Top 5 list. I bloody well loved Someone Else's Skye. This book had everything that I want from a PNR: action, humour, sizzle and a hot-as-hell alpha with a kick-ass female protagonist. I'm always a little anxious taking on a new series within one of my favourite genres. It's so easy for books to become cliché and overdone. This was not the case at all with Christine Wenrick's Someone Else's Skye. The plot concept, the unravelling of the storyline, and the build up to the next book in this series was remarkably well crafted and demonstrated lots of originality. The characters Kane and Skye were strong, yet the author gave them layers that we were able to peel away, allowing us to understand their motives and personalities. This successfully won me over. I liked them both. A lot. I wasn't unintentionally annoyed or frustrated by them. Each feeling I had was orchestrated by the author. Every emotion I had was intended. Christine Wenrick is a talented author who knows how to weave an original tale with flair and skill. This is definitely a don't-think-just-buy read!
