Enid Clay is a woman about whom little is known, although she was born into a large family and was one of thirteen children.
This volume, along with the later ‘The Constant Mistress’ is her only published work and remains of interest primarily as her brother Eric was the illustrator. Indeed, it was only Gill agreeing to illustrate the works that smoothed the path of both books to publication through the Golden Cockerel imprint.
