Another series by Tonya Kappes and a cozy paranormal mystery? Of course i had to try it and i'm so happy i did! Maggie is a witch and a strong spirited one, acting like a child at time ( really playing with magic for a dare?!) she still can be responsible as well...when she wants to but she has a tendency to call trouble. Her familiar is Vinnie, a car. First time i read about a non animal familiar and i loved him protective, jealous he can be so funny and territorial ( who though a car could be^^). In this universe, witches can hide in the normal world but can't reveal what they are which is understandable. However they each have a role or a job perfectly fit for them and they discover what it is when they live their Witchy Hour. No one knows when or how it happen it simply happen differently for each witch. Maggie longs to discover her destiny, she is bored helping at the family diner how she likes it but she wants to know what she is means to be....and for someone so impatient she doesn't understand it when it hit her. One day, meeting someone she starts feeling needles everywhere and her magic becomes wonky...because Mick Jasper an investigator for a secret organization is part of her destiny...and none to happy to have met this strange girl with even stranger car that keeps getting in the way of his investigation. But fate knows what he is doing and soon Maggie is recruited to go undercover as his partner....even if it's supposed to be temporary, even if it's more appearances than reality Maggie discover she loves doing that and will do her best to solve her case without revealing any family secret. It was really funny, the investigation was interesting despite the fact i guessed the culprit way too soon but it didn't matter with the characters it was fun to follow false leads , watch their attraction grow and their bickering incessant as Maggie refuse to reveal how she knows what she knows and Mick wants to discover what she is and what 's wrong with her car. If you are looking for a paranormal cosy mystery with magic this is definitively one you have to try

Maggie and her sister Lilith are out for drinks when a witchy dare from Lilith goes awry. Maggie’s spell backfires and ends up getting her mixed up in SKUL business. One benefit, she is working with the handsome Mick Jasper. Maggie’s job is to become a Mystic Couture consultant. Turns out SKUL believes the business is illegally shipping drugs. What has Maggie gotten herself into? This can’t be Maggie’s calling..or can it? Spies & Spells is the first book in this series. Tonya Kappes had me hooked from the first page and I could not put it down! I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait to wrap myself into the next story.

Spies and Spells by Tonya Kappes is another great book and series. All the characters are funny, great, and at times very nutty. The characters are all of those things plus more. Maggie is the main character of the book and trying to figure out what she is supposed to do in this world, until her Witchy Hour, which she is wondering if it will ever happen to her. Her older sister, Lilith, hasn’t had her Witchy Hour yet and she doesn’t really mind waiting for it. While her mom and Aunt Meme have there’s. We follow Maggie as her Witchy Hour starts to happen and all the way through the mystery that she gets herself wrapped up in just from meeting Mick Jasper. My question is the life's ambition SKUL or Mick Jasper? I am looking forward to finding out in the next book. The spells that Tonya made up for the book were cute and silly but entertaining to read the mess or not so mess that it will cause. I loved the whole family of witches and their friends having a makeup party. Also Vinnie, her familiar, is super, funny and protective. He was entertaining as well. Spies and Spells by Tonya Kappes is a great book and one that I recommend for everyone to read. I am also giving this book a five butterfly rating. If you like quirky fun cozy mysteries check out some of her other series, like the Magical Cures Mysteries or the Ghostly Southern Mysteries. Anyways until the next time enjoy this book review brought to you by Baroness’ Book Trove. To read other reviews like this one please visit my blog: baronessbooktrove.com

What a "witchy" good time!

This is the first book of a new series and I enjoyed it very much. Maggie is a witch who lives with her Aunt, mother and sister, trying to live like mortals. When a dare goes wrong and Maggie is thrown into a drug investigation, her world colliding with mortals, a car that tries to protect her, a suspicious neighbor, of course a dead body and a handsome stranger who works for a secret organization, you know that you are in for one fun read. It is non stop with twists that keep you trying to figure out what is going on. Great start to this new series and I eagerly await the next.

a lot of fun SPIES AND SPELLS by Tonya Kappes The First Spies and Spells Mystery Maggie Park lives in Historic Old Louisville, Kentucky along with her sister, Lilith, her mom, and aunt. And their familiars. You see, the Park women are witches and Maggie and Lilith are helping at the family restaurant while waiting for their Witchy Hour; the time when their true path will be shown. In the meantime, the sisters still goad each other into magical dares. One such dare leads Maggie to witness, and interfere with, a package drop. This misadventure brings one determined man, high end make up, and the start of Maggie's Witchy Hour. Welcome to the witchy world of Tonya Kappes. In SPIES AND SPELLS she creates a new world around Belgravia Court where witches live side by side with mortals, the mortals generally clueless about their different neighbors. Kappes also creates a new construct for her witches. Faced with a "Witchy Hour" witches don't decide on a career on their own. Instead fate announces what their path will be. The witches here have familiars, but Maggie has one of a quite different sort. Instead of a cat, macaw, or owl, who help her mom, sister, and aunt respectively, Maggie's familiar is a car; a car named Vinnie. A car names Vinnie who can get jealous. SPIES AND SPELLS brings together mystery, romance, and humor...lots of humor... and paves the way for future stories set in this new world. As someone who studies the occult and various nature paths I was unable to take the book too seriously, yet I did not take offense. SPIES AND SPELLS is silly lighthearted froth, but it's a lot of fun. If you're looking for an escape into a magical world with a hint of romance you should find this book a pleasurable read-I did! The publisher sent me a digital ARC in the hopes I would review it.

What a fantastic start to a new series by Tonya Kappes. Maggie is a witch living in Kentucky with her sister, mother, and aunt who are also all witches. She's been waiting for her Witchy Hour, which is her life's journey. Each one of her family members has a different familiar. Hers happens to be her car Vinnie, very reminiscent of KITT from Knight Rider. I enjoyed the human qualities that Vinnie showed throughout the book. Mick is an agent of SKUL, a secret US organization. He goes undercover and Maggie stumbles into his operation, having no clue just what she's done. The book follows her search for her Witchy Hour as well as trying to stay a step ahead of Mick. I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to see how the series progresses. I would highly recommend it to anyone. I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Maggie Park is a witch who is frustrated. She wants to find her life's journey, but so far no luck. Suddenly things change in a big way. When a dare with her sister goes wrong and she turns the wrong man into a cat, her life becomes a dangerous adventure. She's threatened with exposure by Mick Jasper. He's a spy. He's tracking a drug smuggling operation at Mystic Couture Cosmetics. Now to save her family Maggie is on the case too. The action is nonstop. Who knew that living in historic Old Louisville was that exciting. Tonya Kappes has the knack for creating quirky characters that pull you into their story. I liked Maggie. She has spunk. I want a car like Vinnie. He's both sporty and snarky. I felt sorry for Mick. He's confused and overwhelmed by Maggie and her magic. This is the first book in a new series. I can't wait to see what trouble Maggie can get into next.

Loved this book! Tonya Kappes can always be counted on to write a fun, engaging book, and this one was no exception. Maggie is waiting to find out what her calling is. When a spell doesn't quite go as planned, she finds herself mixed up with a secret organization. Could this be her calling? This was such a fun book to read, and I love Maggie's familiar!! I highly recommend this book!

Omgosh Tonya Kappes, what a great new series! Maggie Parks is a witch trying to come into her own. With a familiar named Vinnie (a car btw), her sister, mother, aunt, and a love interest named Mick - Maggie gets involved in a murder mystery with a twist of magic. It starts with a dare, a game that the sisters always do, and ends with trouble. Maggie's magic backfires and when she tries to correct the errors of her ways, it delves her deeper into the mystery. With the help of Vinnie and Mick, Maggie finds herself and the possibility of love. If you love any of Tonya's other magical mysteries series with a sprinkle of Janet Evanovich, you will enjoy this book!

I loved this new series from Tonya Kappes! It has a great flow to it and the main character, Maggie, is just fun! She is very likeable. And new man in her life( Mick) has hero written all over him..and he is a great counter part to Maggie. Wonderful mystery and just a touch of intrigue to go along with it. And THAT'S the story I'm sticking with!

Spies and Spells is the first book in the Spies and Spells series penned by the talented Tonya Kappes. While awaiting her “Witchy Hour” or “calling” Maggie works in her family dinner, The Brew. Maggie is a witch and as are her mom, Great Aunt Meme and her sister, Lilth. Maggie's familiar is a car, Vinnie, who can have quite an attitude! I actually, love her familiar as Vinnie reminds me of Knight Rider. This story is set in Historic Old Louisville, Kentucky where they reside in a house on Belgravia Court surrounded by many nosy neighbors. To the world, they appeared to be modern day, normal, kind people. They were quite careful to keep their family secret. Lilth dares Maggie to cast a spell on an unsuspecting man which goes awry. It isn’t long after that Maggie becomes involved with Mick Jasper at Mystic Conture (imagine Mary Kay Cosmetics). From that point on, Maggie’s life is filled with mystery, intrigue and a host of questions. Mick to the rescue!! You will have to read this book to learn what happens Maggie’s future. This quick read has it all: well developed characters, strong, presented in a tightly woven plot with numerous, unexpected twists and turns. A delightful story filled with magic, mystery, intrigue and a touch of Southern humor. I enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series to learn how Maggie's continuing adventures. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a superbly written cozy mystery with witches, spies, Southern humor and interesting familiars!

He was deep undercover before Maggie messed it up with one dare. Now Maggie and Mic become partners to has to find out who behind this drug ring. There are lot of action and murder. Love this book only thing I wish was different was Vinnie was a chick

I absolutely loved this book. The characters are very well developed, the scenes are very well described and the story line is fun with unexpected twists. For the first book in a new series this one really kept a good pace and the character descriptions were so well incorporated in the story that it does not take anything away from the story when a minor character is described. The protagonist Maggie lives with her mom, older sister and her aunt they are all witches who have done their best to blend in with mortals. Maggie and her sister work at their aunt's diner while they wait for their life's journey to hit them. Maggie and her sister often dare each other to do silly things, but after Maggie casts a spell and it goes a bit wrong she unwittingly becomes involved in a situation that causes her entire family to be in danger. Mick is a mystery man that seems to be immune to Maggie's spells, much to her frustration. Mick seems to be turning up everywhere Maggie is, first the Diner then the local bar and then the park and each time he is around Maggie feels strange. I do not want to give away spoilers so I will just say I will be buying multiple copies of this one as gifts to family and friends.

Great New Series! This is a great book; this is the first book in the S pies and Spells series by Tonya Kappes. Tonya is one of my favorite authors and I was so eager to read this new series, and of course she didn’t disappoint me it was GREAT! Maggie Park is a witch and currently works at the family diner with her mom, aunt Meme, and her sister Lilith. Maggie knows that she is not meant to work in the diner; she has just been waiting on her Witchy Hour to lead her to her new path in life. Maggie’s familiar, Vinnie is car---yes a car. Not just any car he is a classic 1965 red AC Cobra. He is also snarky and jealous and takes his job seriously in protecting Maggie. Maggie meets a mysterious stranger, Mick at the diner. Mick Jasper works for a secret U.S. organization, SKUL. Maggie gets entangled in an investigation with Mick and has to go undercover at a makeup consultant. If you are looking for a fun new series, which has humor and mystery then you need to read this book. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series.
