Spiritual Journeys in Prayer and Song by Rev Peter Unger, Robert J. Banis Phd

This book grows out of Rev. Peter Unger's nearly ten year spiritual search to find a more relevant, and dynamic way to minister to traditional Christians in these transitional times. Graduate studies, along with much prayer and soul searching characterized this period.
The paradigm for spiritual journeying advocated in this book is one major realization of that search. This liberating, holistic, and Scripturally based paradigm both informed, and helped revitalize Rev. Unger's ministry.
Most importantly, having become a better vessel for God's grace in Jesus Christ Rev. Unger was empowered to minister to those embittered, cynical, or just indifferent Christians to whom he had also been called to pastor.
It is Rev. Unger's hope for this small book that its readers might be re-introduced, through its stories, songs and prayers, to the indwelling spirit of God's grace who can give transformative meaning to every experience on our spiritual journey through life. Such a spiritual journey, once undertaken, has the potential, through the work of the Spirit, not only to revitalize one's spiritual life but then through them that of others as well.

The Rev. Dr. Unger, in his book, 'Spiritual Journeys in Prayer and Song' has provided us with wonderful 'real-life' experiences in one's own search for meaning. Each page and subject is beautifully written, relating tales of everyday happenings from his years as a minister and counselor. The accompanying CD, containing original songs by Dr. Unger is a combination of inspirational text, and lovely melodies of a folk-like character. the CD is beautifully recorded.

Dr. Unger touches on the various topics we deal with day in and day out. How better to approach life itself than to understand how the Bible relates to our current times. Dr. Unger has that way of putting it all in perspective to our daily lives and how we can use this to better our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. It is books like this that make you think about how our days, ourselves, our life as we see it and what we can do to become that person our Lord would like us to be.

Peter Unger¿s book contains a series of anecdotes which cause us to examine and evaluate our personal dealings with the spectrum of human experiences. Rev. Unger demonstrates how to extract meaning and grow spiritually from situations which cause anger, shame, or even joy. I personally found great comfort in ¿Spiritual Journeys in Prayer and Song¿ even though I am not a Christian. The range of emotions and actions with which Rev. Unger deals and the lessons extracted from them cross religious barriers. The accompanying CD of inspirational music is well-produced and shows that Peter Unger¿s gift for writing uplifting text is as effective when applied to song.
