It is Bear’s birthday tomorrow and Squirrel would like to prepare some delicious blueberry cookies for him. With just enough time to make them, she is about to  set off to gather the blueberries from the forest when Fox arrives needing her help, followed by Duck and Doe too!

When she finishes doing favors for all her friends, it is already night time and she still needs to gather the blueberries! With the light of the moon, she enters the forest, but by morning, she is still not back and her friends begin to worry. What has happened to Squirrel?

About the Author

Susanna Isern grew up among mountains in the Spanish Pyrenees. When she was little, her favorite hobby was to run around, discovering incredible insects and helping sick or endangered animals. It was then that animals started to whisper her stories, which she hurried to write in the notebook she always carried with her. She is the author of many children's books, most of them distributed internationally and translated into over a dozen languages. She has been awarded the Silver Medal in the Moonbeam Children's Book Awards 2013 in the USA.


Leire Salaberria has exhibited her work in different countries around the world. Her work has been selected to appear in Bologna Children's Book Fair 2012 and IV Ibero-American catalog of illustration 2013, 2014. In 2014 she won an Honorable mention at the Sharjah International Book Fair. Since 2011, when she published her first book, she's illustrated several books in Italy, Mexico and Spain.

Squirrel’s attempts to make a present for a friend keep getting interrupted.

Tucked away in her treehouse, Squirrel realizes that Bear’s birthday is tomorrow. She decides to bake special blueberry cookies for him and sets out to gather the berries. But there is only one blueberry bush in the forest, and it is far away. As Squirrel starts to leave, Fox shows up and asks if she can wait around to give the mail carrier a package. Squirrel does not have time but doesn’t know how to say no. Throughout the day, more and more friends ask for favors that Squirrel is unable to deny. She “gets a lump in her throat” and pushes her own needs to the side to help her friends. But when she finally goes looking for the blueberries, it’s late at night and she falls down a hole.
