I love that this wasn't just about romance or about a gay man accepting being gay. The characters in the book already know they are gay and accept it. Instead this is a story about heart ache and making decisions that haunt us and learning to accept it. It's about finding love that strengthens you and helps you grow into yourself. I love love love how the auther helps you to see the world in a way that you might never had looked at it and wouldn't be able to look at it just from watching a movie. I was literally taken away to another place and fully grasped and appreciated another's perspective without living it. I'm really hoping that the auther might write a follow up at some point. The though book ending well and wouldn't need one, I fell in love with the characters and wouldn't mind knowing what they ended up doing when they got a little bit older.

This story was so engaging from the first page to the last, I could barely be away from it long enough to make meals. Love that we were given a look at the world of the deaf through Shawn's character. The story made for a wonderful romance with lots of tension that didn't feel manufactured. Highly recommend.

ZA Maxfield is becoming an auto buy for me, I've never read anything of hers that I haven't really liked, and none of her books are identical to the other. In this one, there is a romance between a deaf boy, Shawn, 22 yo, and a recovering addict Cooper, 28 yo. You might think that Cooper would be the stronger one, but Shawn is clear and clean in what he is and what he wants, and he is the healer in this relationship. I loved that he was deaf, and shown as having so much to give. Cooper was messed up from having a really awful history feeling complicit in a drunk driving death, and then spent 3 years on the road, getting himself into all sorts of dangerous situations - BDSM didn't appear directly in this book, but Coopers bad experiences in it definitely were a factor. Shawn is shown having friends and school and work and still having room for Cooper. When Cooper's lover from the past, Jordan, calls him back, it forces Cooper to look at the truth of where home is for him, and what loves really means for him. Loved it, it's definitely a relationship book with a few (enough!) hot scenes, but it's not just mindless sex scenes tied together, there is a real plot and a real relationship here. I bought the next in the series straight away.

I loved this book. The characters and dialogue are realistic and the story involved me from the first page. This is not the usual m/m romance or erotic novel. It is so much more. I found it well-written, detailed, character-driven, and so very romantic.

I'm not gay, nor lesbian but I have to say, this has been one of the best inspirational books I have ever read. I read it from emotion with emotion and could not have enjoyed it more. Thank you. How wonderful would it be for everyone to be so connected. WORLD PEACE
