Overview

Opposites attract in this seductive novel from the author of Against the Cage (“Funny, steamy, scorching.”—Toni Aleo), with a chiseled MMA fighter falling for a single mom who could use a real man in her corner.

Working two jobs to support her infant daughter is harder than anything Penny Richards has ever done, but it sure beats living under the rules of her stepfather, a television preacher who demands a picture-perfect family. And if Penny hadn’t struck out on her own, she never would have met Travis Calhoun. The intensely physical heavyweight brawler has a way of drawing out her wild side. But Travis lives fast, with no responsibilities—and that just isn’t for Penny.

Most of the women in Travis’s circle wear tight clothes, high heels, and tons of makeup—not pearls or plaid headbands. But once he works past Penny’s inhibitions, Travis discovers a kindred spirit who longs to trust someone with her body, and her secrets. Still, Travis can’t help but wonder if this rich girl is just slumming it before she returns to her privileged life. Now it’s up to Penny to prove that she wants her hard-edged, hard-loving fighter just the way he is.

## Just OK for me. I adored the first book "Against the Cage". But all the ones that came after didn't do it for me. I just couldn't connect with these 2 characters. I really didn't like Travis until the very end, but by that time it was already too late. He kept reiterating how much he dislikes kids and never wants to be a husband or a father. Over and over. He doesn't want to be tied down, doesn't want to be responsible for anyone...yada, yada. I mean it was exhausting. If I was dating this guy and had a kid, I would've kicked him to the curb. It was insulting. And Penny was incredibly needy, pushing herself on Travis. That really bugged me about her. Anyway, can't really recommend. 240 pages.

This is the sixth and final book in the fabulous Worth the Fight series, and it features and MMA fighter Travis Calhoun and bartender Penny Richards. She's in hiding from her stepfather because having a baby out of wedlock is a HUGE no no for the daughter of a famous evangelical tv personality. For a year she's been in Tarpon Springs, FL trying to resist the charming MMA fighter. Travis is a part of a reality TV series, featuring MMA fighters and she was photographed kissing him, which alerted EVERYONE as to her whereabouts. This is where the chaos begins. I understand why he never wanted kids. It really breaks my heart but seeing him with Belle is just too cute for words. Travis and Penny are just two people, that if they could get over all their hangups, what they shared would be insanely beautiful...and sexy. Let's not forget how HOT they are together! I've loved every one of the books in this series and I'm sad to see it end. Watching all these alpha men go after the women that are destined to be theirs has been fun and exciting! Bravo Sidney Halston! Great story lines with loyal and loving characters.

Penny grew up the stepdaughter of a famous preacher with millions of people that watched him o tv. At eighteen her stepfather’s friend convinced Penny they were in love and took her virginity and she got pregnant. When her stepfather found out he sent Penny away and demanded Penny put her baby up for adoption When Sarabelle/Belle was born Penny took off to Florida when Belle was a few days old, Belle was her priority.Penny became a bartender and waitress and met Travis who was a MMA fighter - who loved his family . Kip was Penny’s stepfather and he had adopted her as Penny’s biological dad died when she was seven. Penny’s mother died from cancer when Penny was sixteen. The minute Travis met Penny he felt the need to protect her. Penny is struggling to make ends meet. Penny is scared to get involved with Travis. Penny had been hurt enough. Travis wants to stay single and doesn’t want any drama in his life and as far as children went he wasn’t really ready for them. Also Penny is trying to keep her location a secret. Travis and Penny are opposites. Penny was brought up with a religious background bad she has an overall positive look on life. Travis is jaded from his hard upbringing and now is enjoying the money he is making and living life but Travis has self worth insecurities deep inside himself. . Travis is also being filmed for a spread on HBO. Even though Penny works two jobs it isn’t easy for her. When Penny is in need Travis steps up to help to take care of Penny and Bella. Penny and Travis find caring in each other, they have a good friendship and the physical attraction between the two is hot. I like a lot about this story like the plot was good.but was some things I didn’t really like as when Travis didn’t try to get close to Belle and just referred to her as the kid. Penny and Belle were a package deal after all even as friends. I loved how Penny took off with Belle when she was a couple days old to raise Belle herself. I also love the mother Penny is. I liked how this wasn’t an insta love type story especially after belle’s biological dad and he lead Penny on when all the while he was married and gave her money to keep they pregnancy hidden so she would want to be more careful. Travis had a totally different lifestyle than Penny also. I would have loved to see more Belle moments who doesn’t love a baby/ toddler in a story. I liked the characters and I liked the ins and outs of this story a lot and I recommend.

Scorching, Intense, Dark, Emotional, Forbidden yet utterly captivating sexy hot Travis Calhoun, ripped and complete with 6-pack abs. Can such a combo even be possible? Meet one of the protagonists in Stacked up Halston's latest offering to the worth the fight series. Calhoun is an MMA fighter and eye candy for any girl in town. Ever popular and yup the girls throw themselves at him literally. He's quite a character with heaps of baggage. The other is struggling, single mom Penny, sweet, beautiful, from a privileged background yet with low self-esteem has, her own baggage. Both are from opposite sides of the social fence and Halston does not pass by the opportunity to explore this emotional roller coaster. A coming of age novel where the protagonists learn to deal with their different backgrounds & upbringing that influence their thinking and ethics. This is the backdrop for Halston's Stacked up. The two are attracted to each other yet Penny keeps her distance. Why will Penny not even consider dating him? Travis is used to girls throwing themselves at him albeit for their own purposes. Despite coming from different spectrums of the society, she does not strike him as a snob. On the contrary, she is anything but and that is exactly what draws Travis to her - that she is such a sweet character despite her background. Umm is there a hint of bias on Halston's part? She certainly hints at something deeper. After all, when they both first met their chemistry is mutual igniting a roaring fire. Confused Travis refuses to give up and is prepared to be there should she need him. When conservative Penny finally lets down her guard boy, do the sparks fly between the two and a tender read transforms into steamy red-hot. Halston has found her signature mojo balancing sensuality, romance and a touch of mystery as her penmanship heats up the pages of this novel bewitching the reader right until the very end making it impossible to put down. Such delicious desire burns through the pages of the passion-filled novel. Halston deftly plays on ones heart strings with this endearingly tender love story. It is filled with everyday characters that the reader will recognise from her previous novels but if you are like me and this is your first taste of Halston's work then you will still not have a problem as she has written this book so that it can be read as a stand-alone. Each has their own demons to contend with all adding to the charm of the story while keeping it realistic. Halston has vamped ordinary lives into a delightfully seductive read. Moreover, the HEA ending will leave every reader swooning in delight.

The sixth book in Sidney Halston's Worth the Fight Series, Stacked Up, was a great finale to a strong series. The caring and bonding of Travis and Penny equaled their undeniable attraction and gave their relationship a solid basis. With dark past and brewing secrets this story was a page turner and audience pleaser. Ms. Halston's natural ease in illustrating her characters angst and innate goodness shine through in her latest work and will leave her readers anticipating her future works! *I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* *While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*

Frustration. Anger. Disappointment. I was feeling all these things while reading this book but none of it had to do with the writing. It had to do with the story being told. This was the life that Penny, step-daughter to a television preacher was living with her young daughter. The things she went through. The fights she chose to fight. The ones that she did not. I could have kicked her butt myself on a few of these such occasions. She was gutsy yet a doormat. I may not make must sense but you would need to read to understand. Penny and Travis had their funny moment, their steamy onsets, their scorching interaction, but there was still a sense of realness between them. Penny had a life she was working to provide for her daughter but she never lost sight of who she was and her needs. Travis was damaged and felt the party and fun was all he was good for. He childhood was not easy and it took a conservative looking woman and her child to show him there was more out there. This was the first of the series that I have read but not the first book for Halston. I have others of her books and found much delight and pleasure. This was no different. You just have to get around your own personal expectation and enjoy the read for what it was. **This ARC was provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**

Penny is working two jobs to support herself and her child, running away from her strict step-father. Travis had a tough childhood and now has everything he wants. He is a bad boy and heavyweight fighter and can have any woman he wants. Travis sees Penny as a rich girl slumming it, can she show him he couldn’t be more wrong? Penny and Travis have great chemistry and both have some issues within themselves they need to work on. I really liked it.

For the finale book in the series it went out with a bang. The characters were great. There was a lot of angst and passion. For Penny life has gone in a completely different direction she could have ever imagined. A preacher's daughter now running into the unknown as a single mother takes a lot of guts. Penny has this sweet innocent side, but when she's with Travis he brings out a side she never knew she had. I loved Travis. He's this big bad fighter that's adamant that children have no place in his life. He's has some demons to work through, but watching him fall when it comes to Penny's little girl is priceless. I liked the chemistry between Penny and Travis. They're both on a journey to find their true selves and what they find in each other is so beautiful. For the journey for all in this book the epilogue was the beautiful touch that left my heart happy after reading this book.

Penny Richards is a young single mother on the run from her controlling stepfather, she struggles to make ends meet by working two jobs to support herself and baby daughter Belle .when she meets the sexy alpha male MMA fighter Travis Calhoun it's unexpected but very welcomed because he brings out a side of her that has been hidden away. the only problem is that she has not told him about Belle because he has no interest in having a wife or kids but that all changes when Travis meets the beautiful little girl for the first time and she steals his heart. and when Pennys stepfather finally finds her and demands she returns home with Belle or he's going to seek legal action. Travis is not going to stand for Penny and Belle being mistreated that way because he realizes that he loves the two of them deeply and can't live without them. and he is willing to go above and beyond to make sure his girls are taken care of at any cost!

When a story is sexy, passionate, and even crude at times, and at the same time sweet, tender, adorable, and even innocent, it takes your mind and emotions for a wild ride, and touches your heart like rare stories does. That's what this series has been for me, and the ending for it, the crescendo, Stacked Up, was a true highlight in a series of amazing tales. I have loved Travis since I started to read the series, he is fun and flirty, yet there's deep waters running in him, hurt, pain, and regrets, that he tries to hide and live with. Penny has been the one to catch his eye, and life for him was never the same again. Penny, my heart went out for her. She is so strong, she tries so hard to survive, even though her upbringing didn't give her many tools for survival. She works hard, keeps to herself, and tries to make it yet another month, loving her little Belle. Her faith is her cornerstone, and she is not ashamed of it. She relies on God's guidance, protection, and wisdom to make it through the day. Belle, she steals the scene every time, her love for Travis is as healing and powerful as her mamma's, and the big fighter doesn't have a chance, when it comes to his girls. Travis and Penny together are incredible. The chemistry is steaming hot, but there's the tender, vulnerable side to them, the side that needs healing from the past, and opens up raw and fragile emotions in them, where mending can take place, and rebuilding a new kind of foundation can start. The love and sacrifices Travis is willing and ready to do, for Penny and Belle, are outstanding, and humbling. The fight against Penny's past is hurtful, yet, she, together with Travis, manages to stand up to the powerful force she already once escaped from. The group of friends from the Academy, are the family of the heart, who always stands together, supports each other, and are there for each other. I will surely miss the gang, and the trouble they constantly get into. They have stolen my heart, and earned my respect, and definitely made me swoon more than a time or two. ~ Five Spoons

This has been my favorite couple in the series thus far. That's saying a lot because I love every character in this series and have devoured each book as soon as I could get my hands on it. Travis, however, has always had a special place in my heart. It's probably the cowboy hat. LOL! The fact that Travis (practically a confirmed bachelor with a fear/hatred of children) is paired up with Penny (a single Mom in hiding) was so much fun. He's been trying to get in her pants for nearly a year. She's been saying no despite her desire. She's been in hiding for the same amount of time and also hiding her infant child from everyone with virtually no support. When the reasons for the secrecy became apparent, I was shocked to say the least. EXCELLENT twist that was completely unexpected and refreshing. Travis' reactions to finding out she was a Mom were also highly entertaining. When his need to protect Penny kicked in and then the flip side of the coin when he kept referring to the baby as "it" had me laughing at both his behavior and the reactions of others. We get more of Travis' childhood - more details than even his twin was aware of - to understand his cavalier attitude a bit more and how he ultimately became the fighter that he is. Penny's past is a complete opposite of what anyone would expect. The chemistry between the two is apparent and the love practically pops off of the pages. This is a book full of strong characters, a great story and sexual tension that you can feel. Just like every other book in the series, this can be read as a stand alone. I HIGHLY recommend this series. It really is the perfect balance of an MMA gym and the women that bring the fighters to their knees. Sidney doesn't skimp on the plot, chemistry, action or the feels. I received and ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

First book by this author and I'll surely be back for more! While this was book #6 in the Worth the Fight series, I read it as a stand alone. Growing up in a very sheltered, overbearing religious household , Penny decides that for the sake of her newborn daughter she is leaving.... Finding herself working two jobs to take care of her daughter and hiding the secret crush she has on the hot MMA fighter, Travis. Travis is the smooth talking cowboy that everyone loves and eventually he wears Penny down. This book was sweet, full of drama, and hot as hell. Highly recommended and I'll surely be going back to read the earlier books in the series!!!

This review is based on an ARC provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion. I'm always scared to come in the middle of the series because usually the author mentions the backstory from other books in the series and you are just left hanging. It's confusing as all ...., yeah you know what I meant. You can recognize the quality in this author. No confusion, just enjoying a good book.

4.5 Stars The Worth the Fight series by Sidney Halston has been one that I can truly say I've enjoyed every installment thoroughly, and that includes this most recent addition, Stacked Up, which is Travis and Penny's story. While each book is easily read as a companion novel, I do love the fact that you get bits and pieces of all the characters from the previous books in the series as well. In Stacked Up, Halston provides readers with a hot, sexy, alpha male MMA fighter who is also funny and likable. Travis is a former manwhore who has found himself gradually turning from his manwhorish ways since he met the lovely Penny Richards almost one year previously. She's totally the opposite from the type of woman he usually goes for, sweet and shy, but there is just something about her that keeps Travis coming back night after night to the bar she works at, just to be around her. Even one year in, he knows her so well, yet he also realizes there is a lot he doesn't know, things she keeps hidden. Penny Richards has a secret past that has brought her to the place she is, driven by a fierce need to protect her daughter, a daughter that only a few people even know exists, and Travis is not one of the few. When things get hard, she finds herself in Travis' arms, finally giving in to the desires she has denied herself for for so long, even if just for a moment. Even with that moment of pleasure, of comfort, she knows it is short-lived because Travis doesn't know about Belle....yet....and when he finds out, well, he doesn't handle it in the best of ways. Even worse, when he does the one thing she's asked him not to, unintentional as it may have been, Penny's world begins to crumble around her and everything she's worked so hard for threatens to come tumbling down. It's up to Travis to save her, but whether he loses his heart in the process remains to be seen. I really loved Travis and Penny's story. The way their romance progressed was not only heartwarming, and at times heartbreaking, it was also smoking hot. Who knew Penny had it in her.....you go girl Then there is Belle, what a little angel. She'll own your heart before it's all said and done. Great romance, a great story, characters that are engaging and lovable, and some suspense added in the mix makes for a really great read. Definitely check this one out.

Ok I loved this book. I hope it is not the end of the series. When I read the first book in this series, I immediately read the following ones. Then waited for this one, somewhat patiently. Travis has been an intriguing character throughout the series, with his flirtatious ways, overprotective attitudes, hysterical banter with the other guys. Penny was a mysterious woman, she was on scene before but didn't get to know her until this story. She is very young, but mature, desperate to make it on her own, strong and highly attracted to Travis. I loved them together. She helped him heal and grow to want a family and he helped her not to feel so overwhelmed and alone. I thoroughly enjoyed their connection. I really liked that she would not let him get away with talking/treating her disrespectfully when he would jump to conclusions. But when he would provide and take care of her, major swooning. For me, the best part of the book was Sarabelle. She stole every scene she was in and was totally adorable. So stinking cute. It was great to have interactions with the couples from the previous books and see what they were up to know. I sincerely want more from these characters. They are too good to say goodbye to. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.

STACKED UP is the sixth and final installment in Sidney Halston’s contemporary, adult WORTH THE FIGHT MMA romance series. This is bar tender /single mother Penny Richards, and MMA fighter Travis ‘Texas’ Calhoun’s story. STACKED UP can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Travis is JL’s sister (Fighting Dirty #5). Told from dual third person perspectives (Penny and Travis) STACKED UP follows the building relationship between Penny and Travis, and Travis’s preparations for a championship fight. Penny is a struggling, single mother and currently in hiding from her wealthy televangelist step father, and the father of her child who have made it clear she is an embarrassment to the family and the family business. Travis Calhoun is in training for a championship fight. For one year Travis has found himself at the local bar where Penny is employed, but has not been able to cross the invisible line into something more. When Penny finally agrees to one date, pictures of the couple kissing begin to flood the internet, and Penny’s whereabouts are finally found by her past.. What ensues is the struggle to stay one step ahead of her family, and to not lose her heart to a man who wants nothing to do with children or anything long term. The relationship between Penny and Travis is a slow build-one year of acquaintance and friendship-that evolves into lovers and more. Penny claims to like it a little rough in the bedroom, although her lack of experience would say something else. Herein lies a bit of a problem because the ‘rough’ aspect of the story line is so vanilla that a couple of slaps against the behind is barely a scratch towards the erotic, and yet it is oft mention by the hero that the heroine likes it rough. The $ex scenes are intimate, seductive and hot. STACKED UP has a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including most of the previous story lines couples as we say goodbye in championship style. We are introduced to Penny’s step father-a television preacher more concerned about appearances than his daughter, and her ex boyfriend Lawrence –both of whom have plans for Penny and her child. STACKED UP continues to focus on the MMA fighting-their training, their diets, their lives and their loves. Sidney Halston grants the reader a behind the scenes look at the making of a champion. The premise is entertaining and inviting; the characters are passionate and intense; the romance is a slow build towards a happily ever after.

This is the last in the series but the first that I have read. I could not stop reading this book. Penny had lived a very sheltered life. One night, her life changes and she decides that she needs to go it alone. Taking her baby with her, she finds her way to a small town. Into her life comes Travis, a man afraid of personal attachments because of his past. They are attracted to each other and try to make things work. The ending to this story had me in tears. I highly recommend this book.

In this Single mom meets a cowboy MMA fighter, Stacked Up kind of gives off the feeling of a new and very adult twist to the FOOTLOOSE-ish plot. Penny was working two jobs to support her young daughter. Penny ran away from her rich, disapproving family to keep her daughter and her daughter means everything to Penny. Travis is a carefree cowboy with an MMA career about to explode in the national media spotlight. He takes a serious liking to Penny. He actively pursues her and convinces her to live a little…not knowing what responsibilities she is carrying. There is a ready to order family just waiting for our couple to comes to terms with their hang ups. Penny is the opposite of Travis’ mother. Penny is in hiding from her over bearing family that wants to control her life. Then there is the adorable daughter that ties them all together. I could have done without the Evangelical stereo-typing. Every time that came up I inwardly cringed, fortunately the overall vibe of the story prevailed. The vibe of this story was its utter cute appeal. The flat out sweet and tenderness just had me smiling while reading. I attribute this to how the author has these characters open up and share their pasts. The openness of the characters eliminates that pesky second guessing and that bothersome “I’d just wish they’d talk to each other”, because they really do share. I received this ARC copy of Stacked Up from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept in exchanged for a honest review.

The risk is worth the reward. Penelope Richards is solely focused on raising her young daughter. She doesn't have time for a relationship when she's working two jobs and keeping secrets. Travis "Texas" Calhoun is an MMA fighter and too good looking for his own good. He's smooth and other than his fighting career the only thing keeping his interest is Penny. As the story evolved, I found out the characters were more than the hot fighter and the beautiful new stranger. The chemistry between the two of them is outstanding . This is the sixth book in the series though the others don't need to have been read before this one. I loved the evolution and convolution of this story. The writing is well done.
