This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-workshop proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on Statistical Atlases and Computational Models of the Heart: Imaging and Modelling Challenges, STACOM 2015, held in conjunction with MICCAI 2015, in Munich, Germany, in October 2015.

The 23 revised full workshop papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 34 submissions. Description: Part of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series, this book presents papers that were presented at STATCOM 2015 on statistical and computational models of the heart.
Purpose: Several recent achievements in the field of image analysis techniques and computational models can take into account the complex three-dimensional anatomy of the heart, including its structural and physiological changes during the cardiac cycle. A functional and structural model of the heart can help with education and research, as well as with clinical work. The book seeks to provide easy access to a few selected recent advances as well as new ideas in this field.
Audience: Researchers, teachers, and clinicians who are interested in computer modeling of the heart and newer methods and progress in this field would find this an interesting read.
Features: The book is organized into two sections — the "Regular Papers" and the "Shape Challenge Papers." Among many submissions from around the world, only 23 papers were presented at the workshop and, of these, 12 are presented here. The shape challenge papers focus on creation of a statistical shape model from a set of 3-D shapes and the development of an optimal classifier that can distinguish between normal myocardium and infarcted myocardium. In the challenge section, findings from 11 participating groups present are combined and presented. The diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of the technique used were used to judge the various challenge papers. Each paper includes a useful abstract that provides insight into the article. A basic understanding of cardiac three-dimensional modeling and relevant mathematics may be required to get the most out of this book. Adequate imagery and graphs are included where needed, and papers include relevant references at the end of the chapter.
Assessment: This is a valuable collection of papers related to cardiac computational modeling that can be an interesting read for those interested in this field.
