Being a cop might be in Anthony Moretti's blood, but protecting and serving the city of New York has always been more than just the family business. If that means his love life stays locked up, well then that's just another sacrifice made in the line of duty. That is, until he sets eyes on the gorgeous new waitress at The Darby Diner and suddenly Anthony's morning coffee is leaving him a whole lot more hot and bothered than usual.

Though waitressing at The Darby isn't exactly Maggie Walker's dream job, it pays the bills and gives her time to work on her novel. Now if only she could stop fantasizing about gorgeous Anthony Moretti every time he sits down at her table, she'd really be in great shape. But when he needs her help identifying a criminal threatening The Darby-and Maggie recognizes her ex-husband-she fears her fresh start might be a pipe dream. Faster than a New York minute, Maggie and Anthony find themselves in one perilous pursuit that only gets hotter with each and every rule-breaking kiss.

I really loved the family feeling you get when the Moretti clan close ranks for those they love and protect. Anth was an emotional cripple when it came to love because of his past and his goals. Maggie was a doormat for her family, but finally found her own strength. Between Anth and Maggie and their falling in love, you can expect some drama, heartache and each of them finally getting a HEA. I look forward to reading more of the Morettis and watching their family grow. A good read that I recommend if you love a romance story. 4 Stars!

Do not like books that are 300 pages with 50 pages at the end of nothing to do with said story

It's a good read. So far, I thought it was the best of the series.

If you like cop shows (e.g. Blue Bloods, one of my favorite TV shows) and stories with strong family bonds, this is the book for you. Steal Me is a great book with the right amount of romance, tension, humor and a bit of angst at some point too - with a beautiful happy ending. Although this is book 2 in the series, you will not need to read book one to enjoy this. I'll be honest: I read book one and even though I wanted to read Anthony's story, I wasn't sure I was going to like it, since in the previous book he didn't really come off as a nice character. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a try - mainly because I've enjoyed other books by the author and I trusted she'd change my mind. She did. Well, Anthony did. I loved Anthony's story so much more than Luc's (book 1) and I'm so glad I gave him a chance. Even though at first he comes off as grumpy and, truth be told, a little stuck-up too, he soon redeems himself and by the end of the book he became my favorite Moretti man. Maggie is a great heroine, one I could relate to and that I definitely would have liked to have as a friend. She's a tough one and I enjoyed seeing her grow throughout the book. The whole Moretti family, including the hilarious grandmother, is back and there are lots of funny family moments and banter. Once you start reading this story, you won't be able to put it down. It will keep you glued to the pages and a little on the edge of your seats too. There is a bit of steam, but it's just the right amount of scenes to make it sexy but not too much and overly descriptive. I would definitely recommend this book to readers who love romance with a bit of tension to make you a little antsy while you wait for the happy ending. And obviously, Steal Me is a must read for fans of Lauren Layne, that goes without saying. ***I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review***

AMAZING! My favorite of the Frisk Me series so far! Anthony is everything a hero in a book should be. He's the strong, serious, brooding, alpha type, scarred from his past. And the heroine is someone you really root for. Life has given her a crappy hand and she couldn't deserve it less. Add in a crazy ex (actually, 2 crazy exes) and it makes for an awesome story.

I really enjoyed this one. The first book in this series, Frisk Me, was good but this one was even better in my opinion. This book was really the perfect combination of romance and suspense. Once I really had a chance to sit down and read, I didn't want to put this one down. I am falling in love with the Moretti men along with the heroines in these books. I kind of wish that this fictional family could adopt me because they are just a lot of fun. It is the Anthony's turn to take the lead role in Steal Me. Anthony is the oldest sibling in the family and the highest ranking family member in the NYPD with his position of Captain. He is also the only member of the family who tends to get things spilled or dropped on him by the waitress during every Sunday brunch. This serious man that is completely career focused doesn't have a lot of patience for their clumsy waitress. Maggie is the waitress that inevitably spills items on Anthony every week. Who can really blame her? He would make just about anyone nervous with his scowl and take charge mentality. And don't forget to call him Captain or you might see a bit of attitude. Maggie is working on writing a book when she isn't waiting tables. In her tiny apartment, she has made a life that she is enjoying along with her dog, Duchess. When she has important information regarding a case that Anthony is working on, they start spending a lot more time with each other. They find out that they both have a lot to learn about each other as they work together to catch a thief and keep Maggie safe. I liked Anthony and Maggie a lot. I really can't say that related to these characters personally but I could see where they were coming from. Anthony has a really hard time finding a healthy balance between his personal life and family and he tends to try to fix everything. Maggie also wants to fix everything but she tries to do it by making everyone happy. They are both really good people. Neither one of these characters made any demands on really anyone and instead take responsibility for more than they should. I think that Anthony and Maggie fit really well together and I loved them as a couple. Their personalities just complimented each other perfectly and the chemistry between the pair made a heart skip a few beats. I also really like the suspenseful parts of the book. The case that Anthony works on during this story seems almost too strange to be true. The more that is revealed about the suspect the more realistic it sounds. Maggie's story really was interesting. I came to feel a lot of respect for her character after learning about everything that she had been through in her life. During some of the most suspenseful parts, I wanted to slap Anthony a little but I do think that his behavior clearly illustrated his internal struggle. The pacing of the book was well done and the romance and suspense had a nice balance with both moving the story forward. I just loved the writing. The secondary characters also added a lot to this book. Who doesn't want a grandmother like Nonna? I would take her as a roommate any day. The same group of characters that we met in the first book play important roles in this one as well. This book could be read as a stand alone but I think it would be best to read them in order. Who would want to skip the first book anyway? It's a good me, you'll want to read it. ARC provided by publisher via NetGalley.

Another slow burner with plenty of sexual tension between Anthony and Maggie. Perfect those who like their heroes broody. They both had some personal issues to deal with, and they each helped the other work through them. Love the Moretti family and I am counting the days for Vincent and Jill's story! I received an ARC via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.

Anthony Moretti is part of a large Italian family. His dad is a retired Captain from the NYPD, his brothers are cops, and he has followed in his father's footsteps, now also a Captain for the NYPD. Though his brothers like to give him a hard time, his goal has always been to ascend as high as he can in New York Police Department, putting that above everything else in his life. Maggie Walker is a waitress at the Darby Diner, she is an aspiring author, has left her old life behind, and is trying to make a new start for herself. The Moretti family quickly takes her under their wing, as they come in every Sunday for brunch. The only one that seems like he can't stand her is the ever so frustrating "Captain Anthony Moretti," whom she more often than not, manages to spill something on. Anthony Moretti is equally frustrated by Maggie, but it takes him a while to realize that it is because he is attracted to her and he doesn't want to be. When Maggie ends up playing a key role in a case that could make or break Anthony Moretti's career, things really get complicated, especially when their mutual attraction for one another begins to bleed over into the case and it becomes hard to separate one from the other. As the case comes to head, a real and present danger presents itself while the past and present collide, forcing both Anthony and Maggie to make some hard choices, and not always the right ones. Thankfully (as least most of the time), the Moretti family is all up in each others business and is there to help make the wrongs right and put things back on the right path. Steal Me is an enjoyable second installment in the New York's Finest Series by Lauren Layne. It is a companion novel, making it easily read as a standalone. Contemporary romance fans, especially those with a thing for men in uniform, will enjoy this novel - add to that the romance, a little suspense and danger, and a whole lot of good-natured family meddling, and you have quite the entertaining read.

This is the 2nd book in the New York's Finest series. This book can be read as a standalone. The reading of the books, in order, adds to the enjoyment and understanding of the series. Anthony AKA "Anth" is attracted to Maggie and its mutual. Since he is so career focused and blinded by the past, he never acts on that attraction. His family, however, things she is greater than sliced bread. Maggie knows she has the hots for the police captain. She also knows he hates her since she cannot seem to stop spilling food on him! She is not looking for a relationship right now anyway. When Maggie becomes a key witness in a case he is working on, the laws of attraction pull them like magnets toward one another. Worried about his career, and the choices he must make - he lays it all on the line. This book has a bit of everything. I loved the sexy moments, and this hero is HOT! It has laughter, heart-melting moments, macho alpha males, suspense and more. ***This ARC copy was given from and its publisher for review only.

I know that I always start out a review of any Lauren Layne book by gushing about her writing, but it never gets old! She always brings something fresh and new to each book. Being a cop is the family business but Anthony Moretti has bigger dreams than being a mere cop. He's got his eye on the highest office within the NYPD and he's willing to give up everything else, even relationships, in his quest to get there and well, experience has taught him that he can't have both, so he'll take the ambition over a relationship any day. So why does their new waitress leave him so unsettled and bring out the worst side of him? And when she becomes the key to catching an elusive burglar, he'll do everything to keep her safe. Maggie Walker has big dreams and being a waitress isn't one of them but it keeps a roof over her head, so she'll do what she has to do until she achieves her dream of becoming a published author. But she may not have even this job for long if she keeps spilling food and drinks on Anthony Moretti, NYPD Captain and the man who flusters her like no other. Maggie has been down this road before and her divorce left her with a bad taste in her mouth but more than that, the deadbeats and criminals that make up her family tree will ensure that Anthony never gives her the time of day. STEAL ME is all about second chances in life and love and Maggie epitomizes this more than any other character in the book. Maggie had given up everything for a family that used her over and over again. Leaving her past behind and starting over in New York was the best decision she made and even though she was struggling, she was living her life and had hope for better things. Maggie was easily my favorite character in STEAL ME. Her growth over the course of the book was fun to read. Her sassy side came out big time as her confidence grew and I loved it. Anthony was quite annoying with his bullheadedness but in spite of that, he stole my heart especially when he finally realized that he was in love with Maggie. One thing I enjoy about this book is that passion between them built up slowly (something I love about Ms. Layne's writing) and the build-up was so much fun to watch. I also love the connections of family and friendship and how each person adds to but does not steal the focus from the central characters. STEAL ME was definitely a treat to read and is a must-read for anyone who loves family, friendship and love. This book has a little bit of everything. Fun, family, sexy time, growth, laughter, crazy antics, a Nonna with no filter, and especially a great story. The characters are well written and the dialogue flows and is witty and heart felt. The Moretti's are a family who are close and have each other's back and really do live in each other's pockets. Maggie has changed her life since moving to New York, taken back her maiden name, changed her phone number and email, and address. She is working at a diner the Moretti's frequent and they have taken Maggie under their wing. It is a good thing since there appears to be sparks between Anthony and Maggie at the beginning of the book and it just keeps getting better. LOVE a book that makes me laugh and sigh in the same chapter and this one did throughout! **Received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

4.5 Stars!! He wanted to hold her. To have her. To do anything and everything she wanted, to be everything that she needed. Because the woman that was in front of him felt like his.” Steal Me is the second book in the New York’s Finest series, but can totally be read as a stand alone. As a fan of Lauren Layne, I’m always excited to hear when she’s got something new out. Now, I will admit, I haven’t had the opportunity to read the first book in this series yet, but after reading this book, I know I’ve got to get my hands on that first book! Steal Me is told from dual points of view and follows the story of Maggie and Anthony. Maggie’s life has been anything but easy.; from her mom leaving, to her father’s alcoholism to a very disappointing marriage. All Maggie wants is to move on with her life. She wants to pursue her dream of being a writer and maybe, just maybe find some happiness…..Anthony’s life has always been about work. His dream is to one day follow in his father’s footsteps. All is going to plan until Maggie enters the picture. As Anthony’s family slowly weaves Maggie into their lives, Anthony finds himself thinking of something else other than his job for the first time in who knows how long. Maggie intrigues him and as much as he tries to stay away, he quickly finds that to be an impossibility. To make matters even more complicated, Anthony will find that he needs Maggie’s help with a case involving her ex-husband. What will happen when the past decides to catch up to Maggie? Will Anthony ever be able to put someone ahead of his job??? I absolutely loved Steal Me. From the moment I started reading, I could not put it down. Not only was the writing smart and entertaining, but the characters were so much fun. I immediately fell in love with them and loved the family dynamic. I couldn’t wait to see or hear what would happen next. Lauren Layne has once again provided me with an amazing love story. The romance was sexy, intriguing and completely stole my heart. It was so easy to get lost and captivated by Maggie and Anthony’s story. I loved the slow burn of their relationship and the push and pull between the two of them. Their story is a perfect reason of why I love Lauren Layne’s writing. Her books pull you in and then run away with your heart when you least expect it. And in the end, you’re left with a big smile on your face and are thinking to yourself, “Wow! That was a really great book!” Steal Me was a fabulous read. I loved everything about it from start to finish. It had the perfect balance of angst, romance and intrigue. And I for one can not wait to get my hands on the next book in this series! *I was provided an ARC copy of this book, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review*
