A widow and a bad-boy hero with PTSD find healing in a fake engagement in this sexy stand-alone baseball romance!>

Drew Marshall, the Raleigh Rockets' bad-boy shortstop, is about to be cut from the team. In the midst of spring training, his baseball skills are slipping, and his recent scrapes with the law have put him in hot water.

Drew's agent hires spin doctor Jessica Barnes to save the shortstop's career. Although she knows nothing about baseball, she is determined to work day and night to save Drew. Then, maybe, she can prove she's over the death of her risk-taking husband.

The new-image campaign spirals out of control when a well-intentioned teammate announces Jessica is Drew's secret fiancée. Now trapped in the same hotel room, the couple crafts a fake engagement to satisfy ravenous reporters, all the while doing their best to resist a mutual attraction that's hotter than the Florida weather.

Can their relationship possibly survive when it's built on secrets and lies?

A well written story with well developed characters. Mindy Klasky had me hoping Drew would overcome all his history and come out on top.  This was my first book in the series and even though it is a stand alone,  I am adding the other books in the series to my TBR list.  A very pleasant, quick read for anyone who enjoys a heartfelt romance.

Romance novels follow a familiar formula: boy meets girl, they fall in love, something happens to break them apart, they get back together. Mindy Klasky has been breathing new life into this trite formula with her Diamond Brides series. Stopping Short is the 6th book in this series, which finds a candidate for shortstop with the Rockets, Drew Marshall, in the middle of a scandal. To handle this mess, his agent hires a company called Image Masters and the company assigns Jessica Barnes to the task. This is Jessica's first major assignment since the tragic death of her husband a year ago in a skiing accident and she is counting on this assignment to get her career back on track. But an unfortunate misunderstanding finds her posing in the role of Drew's fiancé. Can she remake his image or will she lose her heart in the process? I enjoyed these characters and am looking forward to the next book in this series. Disclosure: I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
