Stormswept (Wales #1) by Deborah Martin (Pseudonym), Sabrina Jeffries (Goodreads Author) To believe in her or to give up. This is an amazing story of a wife and husband split apart by family and events. Her ill fated choice to love the man who would be below her family caused them to act rashly and send him into the enlistment against his will. She waited seven years for his return. When given a report that he had died in service she tried to continue her life. He blew in like a whorl wind swept her from her engagement party to announce to the world their secret marriage. This was a dynamic time for them, can they learn to believe in each other. Will they learn to accept each other as they are now, and build a future.

The story is of Lady Juliana St. Albans and Rhys Vaughan. Juliana and Rhys eloped and unfortunately only had the chance to spend one wonderful night together. Rhys is then unexpectedly taken away from her and Juliana is later led to believe that he is dead. Now several years later Juliana has decided to start again and is becoming engaged until Rhys makes an unexpected appearance at the betrothal dinner. Rhys has a lot of anger and trust issues with Juliana a he thinks she is the one who betrayed him and consequently the cost of his impressment and the loss of six years of his life. Juliana is stunned to see him and mystified at his accusations, she tries to give him back understanding and show him that she always had hope for his return. A very enjoyable romance full of emotion as Juliana and Rhys rekindle a love that was unbreakable.

Ireceived an electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. It did not influence my views or opinion of the book. I want to thank Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books and NetGalley for approving me for this review copy. Rating 4.5 I looked forward to reading this book for a couple of reasons. I had read Jane Austen’s books many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the historical background, humor, romance and love and the portrayal of young women seeking their independence in a very restrictive social society. The other reason is that I also had a second chance with love. I was not disappointed in Jefferies retelling of Persuasion by Jane Austen. The backdrop of late 18th century Wales was expertly interwoven into this story of romance, passion and love for the heart and love for country. Women during this time were to be seen and not heard. They were not expected to have, much less express any views or opinions regarding politics, business, current events and there were disparities in education. Wales was on the brink of change, as the Americans were. This was tied in very nicely by mentioning Richard Price who was born in Wales; but educated in England. He vehemently supported the Americans fight for independence and was a friend of Thomas Payne, author of COMMON SENSE. All of this gave the story validity. The story flashes back six years when Juliana sneaks out of her home to attend a secret meeting of The Sons of Wales whose actions were considered traitorous to the crown England. This was quite dangerous and unladylike for a young woman of Juliana’s station. She is obviously well read and she strives to understand the world around her. She is, however, constrained by the mores…the social and cultural restrictions of her day for a woman. And yet, she dares to step outside that accepted circle. It is not, however, without a price and a very steep price it turns out to be. All of the characters are alive and colorful. They are multi layered with meat on their bones. There are ones you love and others that you dislike immensely. All of them contribute to the story. Even the love story between Letticia, Juliana’s maid servant, and Morgan, Rhys’s best friend dovetails and enrichs the story of Juliana and Rhys. Julianna, grows from an inquisitive young girl to an independent minded young woman. With every page I turned, I knew I was going to be so angry with Rhys where I wanted to shake the hell out of him and yell, “ Fool! Open your eyes! Trust your heart”! When an author can do that to you where you feel the intensity of emotions of the characters portrayed, they have successfully sucked you in. This is a love story and it has it all…anticipation, love, passion, romance, betrayal (real and perceived), revenge, vengeance, anger, control, forgiveness, understanding and trust. To love enough to trust your own heart and the one you love. Me thinks, I will be revisiting Jane Austen’s world again real soon.

I received a copy from Netgalley to read and review. I enjoy Sabrina Jeffries writing and this one was great. This book was previously released by her under the name Deborah Martin. This is a story of misunderstanding caused by lies. Juliana St. Albans feel in love with Rhys Vaughan. She was English and he was Welsh. It didn't help matters that her father took his father's estate and caused the squire's death. They married but were parted on their wedding night. Six years later, he reappears in her life. They now how to figure out how to overcome the lies that separated them. I loved reading their ups and downs. I felt her emotions and that kept me reading. I would recommend it to anyone who loves misunderstanding tropes and the eventual happily ever after.

Stormswept Reissue. Lady Juliana St. Albans is an innocent girl when she follows her maid to a meeting of Welsh radicals. She meets Rhys Vaughan and is intrigued by his passion. Rhys is captivated by the girl who speaks in the Welsh tongue until he realizes she is the daughter of the man who killed his father. Seeking vengeance, he goes to her home to call out her father only to learn the man knew nothing of his daughter's scheming. This leads to a secret romance that is dashed when Juliana's brothers send Rhys and his friend into the navy. Now, six years have passed and Juliana is no longer the naive young girl who married Rhys. If you're looking for a star-crossed story of love, hatred and forgiveness, this is the book for you!

An overbearing brother and marrying a man part of a group hated by her family paves the way for young Lady Juliana St. Albans to experience heartbreak and loss. Six years after her wedding night she readies herself to marry another only for her world to stop on its axis and reveal the truth. Her husband is not long dead, but instead full of vengeance for the woman he thought betrayed him. She will have to be strong and find the will to weather the storm should she like to regain the marriage she had always desired. Once again Sabrina Jeffries provides a plot and a group of characters I have no trouble being sucked into and envisioning. I always enjoy reading her novels and look forward to reading many more. I would utterly recommend this novel for those interested in this genre and anything else of hers.

Lady Juliana St. Albans has a tendency to land herself in trouble the run away. Something she has found herself doing quite frequently in the past few days. First, when she attends a meeting of the Sons of Wales secret group then makes her escape when finds herself face to face with the son of the man that people say her father cheated out of his estate. Second, the following morning when he shows up on her doorstep & outs her to her father who promises punishment; & finally when she finds herself running away with the man who has captured her heart in such a short time. Her heart soars with their wedding night only to break the next morning when she learns of his impressment on a warship. With her husband’s disappearance she agrees to her family’s wishes in keeping her marriage a secret with a demand of her own. For six years Juliana has never lost hope that her husband will return. A hope that dies when her brother’s investigator tells her husband that her husband at sea. Now a widow Juliana bows to her brother’s wishes & agrees to marry another; at least until the impossible happens the night of her engagement ball. Rhys Vaughn grew up bowing to his father’s wishes: only speaking the English language, attending the best English schools, & touring the continent like a true English son. He may follow his father’s wishes but Rhys’ heart will always be Welsh. This has led him to this meeting of the secret group, Sons of Wales; a meeting where a bewitching lass catches his eye. A lass that soon earns his mistrust when he finds out she is the daughter of the man who stole his inheritance then he accuses her of being a spy. His mistrust soon grows to epic proportions following a night of passion. Rhys has had six long years to harden his heart & let his mistrust of Juliana grow. When Rhys returns he is intent on claiming what is his & meting out just punishment, but the wife he finds is no longer the young girl who ran away from her troubles. She’s a woman who will fight for what she wants & can give as good as she gets but is that enough to break through his calloused heart & earn his trust? Can Rhys ever learn to trust her again & does Juliana even want him anymore? Juliana’s growing a backbone & not letting her family completely control her after Rhys disappeared hinted at the woman she would become. I admired the growth & independence that Juliana achieved in the years since Rhys’ disappearance & sympathized with her shock upon his return. The determination she showed in regaining Rhys’ love & trust was another point to be admired which made her slip into despair when she realized she may never have that again all the more heartbreaking. Rhys’ pain & suffering, along with the lies he was told, make his thirst for revenge understandable & he thinks he has the perfect plan. Oh, but how I laughed at how he thought things would go his way. Rhys suffered a barrage of emotions from his firm belief that Juliana betrayed him to the moment she slipped into despair & he realized what she meant to him although at this point he still wasn’t sure if he could trust her. I could feel the battle within as Rhys tried to reconcile the fact that he still loved Juliana with his wariness of trusting her. A deep sigh was released when the moment of truth was revealed. Stormswept is filled with mistrust, lies, heartbreak, revenge, & devious relatives; all things that help make up a good story & reminds me why I love Ms. Jeffries writing.

This is a very enjoyable historical romance. Lady Juliana and Rhys share a beautiful wedding night together and the next morning he is gone without a trace. She remains married to him, waiting for him to return until learns that he was killed in a shipwreck. He returns to claims his wife right before she plans to marry another, now they must work through the hurt and betrayal they feel for each other. Lots of drama and emotion, I enjoyed the story as well as the chemistry between Rhys and Juliana. Good read.

This story was wonderful. I just adored Lady Juliana St. Albans. She was fun and feisty and had a hard time having to act like a proper lady. Even though she was English, she was intrigued by everything Welsh, which was suppose to be a lower class. Having followed her Welsh lady's maid, while dressed undercover to a Sons of Wales meeting, she is mesmerized by the main speaker, Rhys Vaughan and of course he is intrigued by her. Juliana and Rhys start spending more time together, and quickly fall in love and decide to elope. Their wedding night was wonderful to Juliana. It awoke certain feelings she never realized she even had. The only problem was in the morning, Rhys was gone and all of a sudden her brothers show up. Juliana spends the next six years waiting for him to return until she is told that he died on a ship. Juliana finally gives up and decides to marry Stephen Wyndham, the Marquess of Devon. At their engagement party, who should walk in by Rhys, coming to claim his wife! Rhys takes his wife back to his place convinced that she had something to do with his disappearance. I loved this part of the story. As the two of them still fought the attraction they had towards each other, they didn't trust each other. As the real story starts to unravel, they both come to realize things that neither of them actually knew. Juliana and Rhys were both strong, proud and loyal characters. I really enjoyed the ride they took to get to their happy ever after.

I love Sabrina Jeffries books. She is a fantastic writer and she draws you into the story. Young forbidden love. A shellfish and controlling brother out only for himself. Who alters the path of the two women lives he loves the most and the men who loved them. While this is not my favorite of Sabrina Jeffries books I highly recommend her books.

Sabrina Jeffries rocks the boat with a turbulent romance shrouded in suspense. Juliana is mesmerized by Rhys. Those emotions culminate into a night of love, lust and gratification that have her head over heels for her new husband. After Rhys disappears without a trace leaving behind a heartbroken and desperate wife is when the true story begins. A mysterious disappearance leads to years of unanswered questions and emotional turmoil in the life of Lady Julia. When he reappears years later a change man it will shake up the foundation of this stormy marriage. I received an ARC of Stormswept in exchange for an honest review. Not one of my favorite stories. I liked the plot but found the story to be bland and slow moving.
