Light hearted murder mystery. Loved the fashion angle. Not sure "to die for" is appropriate for the period but that is ok. Just a fun read.
Do you like Mad Men? Then this may be the series for you. Barbara Jean Coast is the pen name of two Canadian writers who set their work in post WW2 California. Two young women:Margot and Daphne, and their flock of clerks and dressmakers, invite you into a world a lot of us are too young to know firsthand ( this author grew up in similarly based New England). Its a time of pencil skirts, girdles, hats and gloves that match the shoes, finishing schools and household allowances. But the times they are changing and this "perfect world" is found to be not so perfect after all. Unfufilled women, extra marital daliance....MURDER? When a prominent woman is found dead at the dedication of the girls' school she helped found, both Margot and Daphne are shaken and energized to find out who did it. The foundational book in a new series can often be the weakest. I sought out this book after reading a review, and won't shy away from another if I find it, but it's not quite "clever enough" for me to seek out sequels
