Phoebe, a young woman with few prospects for a good marriage is engaged to become the companion to a willful young debutante named Sally. The hero, Zachary, who is to escort Sally and her companion to Brussells so Sally's father can see to Sally's come out in society feels that Phoebe is too young and inexperienced to oversee a spirited girl like Sally.
