There once was a crocodile, who looked quite fierce, With lots of teeth, she stared through big round eyes.
But if you took the time, to look behind all the terror, You might be shocked to find a great big surprise!
For this croc was called Susie, And she was really sweet. She didn't really want, All of you to eat!
Susie did not make many friends. No one came to play. Everyone was very frightened of her, And kept far, far away.
That was until one day, A little girl called Becky came. She didn't know about crocodiles, So Becky just asked her name.
"My name is Susie, But you shouldn't really be here. Why aren't you shaking? Shouldn't you run away in fear?"
"Why should I do that?" Becky answered back. "Wouldn't you like to share what's in my lunch pack?"
"Oh, I'm not really sure," worried Susie said. "I guess it'd be okay, since Mama and Papa are still in bed."
So out of Becky's pack, Came chips and lots of cheese, Susie tried them and with a smile said, "Umm, I really like these!
What else have you got, That I might like to eat? Oh, please don't worry, I wasn't thinking of your feet!"
Becky laughed and laughed, And she still was not afraid. Susie was so very pleased, That her new friend had stayed.
Susie would splash and swim, And Becky would jump and run. They talked and shared and played, Like best friends having so much fun.
But in the bushes and trees and all around, Other animals were wondering what they'd found.
A sweet young girl and a ferocious croc— Were playing hide-and-seek near the big, old rock.
All the monkeys, and all the snakes, And even the birds in the skies, They all chattered together; They couldn't believe their eyes!
But just at that moment, The bedroom door opened wide, She heard her brother's voice, And John came rushing inside.
"Oh no!" cried Becky. "It was only a dream. I'm still in my bed, Not with Susie down by the stream."
"Anyway, I can't be sad, We still had lots and lots of fun. I hope Susie isn't still hungry; She might go and eat someone."
