I purchased this book to see if my 8yr old would enjoy this type of story since we hadn't ventured into the horror/mystery genre yet. I read through it and thought that it was appropriate for her and so we read it together. She LOVED it. I purchased the rest of the series and whenever she did something that we felt deserved a reward, we gave her one of these books. To date, we've read them all and have enjoyed each and every one. They're not quite like Goosebumps nor quite like the Hardy Boys, but a little of both. I recommend Swamp Scarefest as well as the rest of the Scaremaster series for any child wishing to venture into an new genre "gently".
