Overview

Sweetly Scandalous by Jacqueline Winters

Romance novel enthusiast Allie Jordan has a closet secretly stacked full of steamy bodice-rippers and a past relationship gone wrong.

Her vicious ex, Travis, demeaned her love of her favorite books, leaving Allie to seriously doubt the existence of happily ever afters beyond their fictional pages. One unfortunate night, Allie falls victim to his rage. Years later, with Travis behind bars, the scars he's left behind still haunt her. Only through her anonymous--but quite popular--blog does Allie share her excitement of sexy heroes and stubborn heroines.

When Doctor Nick Bryant arrives in Willow Creek looking like he might've jumped right from the pages of one of Allie's lusty books, she can't seem to stay away. And with Nick's past, she probably should.

With Nick harboring secrets of his own and Travis nearing parole eligibility, will Allie take a chance on her own happily ever after, or will her past prove that not all scars heal? Heat level: Moderate/Steamy Other books in the Willow Creek Series: Secretly Scandalous - Book 2 Simply Scandalous - Book 3 Suddenly Scandalous - Book 4 (Coming Spring 2019)

The beginning was great but in the end So many things left on said. they didn’t say anything about Travis dad, Rachel Travis aunt was a mean bully who should have gone to jail like her sister Leslie. They just skipped all of that information.

After reading the blurb, I really thought I would like this book. Sadly, I didn't. I thought Allie's addiction to reading romances was crazy. Especially when she was worried about anybody seeing her reading them. Thanks to an ex who belittled her choice of reading material. How can a woman be embarrassed about something but still keep doing it? If she didn't want people to know what she was reading, she should have gotten an ereader. Her ex was in prison but getting out soon. Allie was afraid of him and wanted to be long gone by then. Which is exactly what her ex's mother wanted. She pretty much ran the town and got what she wanted. Usually using underhanded methods. I liked that Allie thought of her as Cruella. When a new doctor moved into town, every woman was trying to hook him. Whether they were 15 or 80. So he was inundated with visitors bringing casseroles. But he had a secret. His divorce wasn't final. Since he was on a 90-day probation, he was worried if the town found out about this, they wouldn't want to keep him as the town doctor. I liked the twist toward the end and the way everything was tied up in the last several chapters. It looks like I'm in a minority with my opinion of this book. The good thing about opinions though is that not everyone has the same ones, so this book will really catch the attention of many readers.

Well written, great characters, good editing but seriously needs an epilog. Did the ex make it and go to jail? His rotten mother and her equally rotten sister? Did they find the body? Was the web site and blog wildly successful? The house renovated beautifully as the barn? Etc......

It was ok. There was way too much going on for me...the crazy ex- boyfriend, his horrible mother, the horrible volleyball coach (who's only a few years older than Allie & has always hated Allie & she's also related to the ex)...it was WAY too much chaos for me. I won't be purchasing the rest of the series.

A hard-core reader and a blogger: right away you’ll be able to relate to the main character. Allie has always been a fan of her romance novels, until one day, she meets a man right off the pages of Harlequin. You could’ve knocked her over with a feather when she discovered the alluring man was the new doctor at the hospital where she worked. Well, that might give her reason to stay in Willow Creek, a town so small that everyone knows your underwear size. I guess that’s what always bothered me about small towns. Of course, fiction is much more stimulating than the small-town reality. And, surely, as soon as Dr. Nick Bryant, recent divorcee, moved in, the town was all over him like ketchup on fries. Right away you feel for the two main characters. Allie is trying to leave town to escape a troubled past; and Nick is trying to settle into a new life that was thrust upon him by a cheating wife. Both want to forget what happened and move on. Yet neither could help the tingling attraction for the other. The fun part was sneaking a peak at the good doctor and his “man-snake.” Full of sweet and sensual moments, the two grow closer. Overall, the story was well-written with enriching detail of country living, but it had a few lagging areas that slowed the pace. What picked it up for me, however, were the potential threats of the past coming to ruin things for the sweet couple: an old flame known as “The Travis Tragedy” and a malicious ex-wife refusing divorce. This is the good stuff, but, again, it takes a while to get there. As indicated by the title, story is “sweetly scandalous,” showing an earnest, beautiful, and smoking-hot love blossoming in the midst of terrible secrets and vile corruption in a small town. Full of excitement, vengeance and blackmail, this novel takes the reader on a long, winding road through heart ache, love, and recovery.

I absolutely loved this book and recommend it to anyone who likes truly engaging characters and a fresh plot. It is so good I actually almost called in sick to work so I could finish it. I can’t wait for Kim’s story or any of the other Willow Creek residents. Keep up the great work.
