Jenna Riley is positive that she is destined to run her family’s sports bar for the rest of her life and with her father recovering from a heart attack, leaving Jenna to run the bar solo, she knows that she can never utter a word of complaint to her parents. With two professional athletes for older brothers though and the non-stop sport’s talk at work her life seems consumed by it and Jenna is adamant about not adding any more to the mix; even if that means shooting down sexy pro hockey player Tyler Anderson. For months Ty has been frequenting Riley’s Sports Bar, intrigued by the spunky, pierced and tattooed bartender, despite getting the cold shoulder from her. He knows there is more under the prickly exterior that she shows the world, and even her family, and once he sees something he wants’ he goes for goal. Determined to show Jenna that he is the one man for her, Ty sets out to prove that the type of man she may think she wants can never light the fire in her that he can, and she will never feel that spark of chemistry with anyone but him. Soon, Jenna can’t deny the passion that flares brightly between her and Ty, and no longer tries to fight it. But when he pushes her to follow her dreams and live for herself he may just end up pushing her too far. Can Jenna find the courage to face her fears and take a shot living the life she has always dreamed of or will she end up losing in the game of love? Consuming passion, complex characters and an intriguing plot, Jaci Burton can chalk up another win for the sexy athletes in her Play by Play series! I just LOVE the Riley’s, the family dynamics is amazing and with each new novel in the series this caring and supportive family captures another piece of my heart. Taking a Shot follows Jenna, the youngest of the Riley siblings and the only girl, Jenna feels like she has been living in the shadow of her two older pro-athlete brothers and is sick of sports taking over her life. As the female protagonist she is funny, smart, frustratingly stubborn and sadly feels that she cannot confide in her family her true feelings. I found myself wanting to give her a good hard shake throughout the story as well as a big hug. And Ty, well Ty…he was just WOW. Sexy, considerate, supportive, smart, with a great sense of humor and good attitude he is the perfect package; not to mention how he heats up the ice and the bedroom. You’ll need a bucket of ice for the sizzling sex that Burton delivers in Taking a Shot! Tyler Anderson easily makes the list of top swoon-worthy romance heroes for 2012 and the year has only begun. Jaci Burton gives readers more than just a pretty package, but an entertaining and compelling story that will leave them begging for more. I cannot say enough good things about this book. If you’re already a fan of the Play by Play series than you won’t be disappointed with this latest installment and new readers are sure to find a new favorite author/series. Taking a Shot is set up well for a stand-alone but better read in a series and the Play by Play series is a must read for erotic romance and sports romance fans everywhere! Now I am dying for Cole Riley's story (Mick, Gavin & Jenna's cousin) in Playing to Win!

My Review: For me, this book was about so much more than simply a really hot romantic story line (although it definitely was that). This book was truly about Jenna and the fact that she's terrified to follow her dreams. Jenna is the female of the Riley siblings. While big brothers, Gavin and Mick, have been following their professional sports dreams, Jenna has taken over the running of the family sports bar. Honestly, she is sick of sports....only because it's all her life has been 24/7 for years. But the fact that she doesn't want anything to do with sports is actually indicative of a much deeper issue. Sports in Jenna's life are standing in the way of Jenna's dream of singing...a fact that none of her family is even aware of. They have no clue about her talent or passion of song-writing and singing. She has issues with sports in another area of her life too. She doesn't want to have anything to do with dating a guy who is into sports...kind of hard to do when you spend all day at a sports bar and every interaction in your life is based around sports. But she's determined and that's why she has no intention of giving into her attraction to Ty. Unfortunately for Jenna, as a pro hockey player, Ty really doesn't give up well and he's determined that he wants her. Ty has a few issues of his own when it comes to relationships, but honestly, a relationship isn't what he's looking for with Jenna. He just wants to explore what they can do with their combustible chemistry. I love sports themed books and I have to admit, hockey is one of my favorites. I loved the hockey aspect of this book and actually would have been happy if we could have even delved into the sport a little deeper, but I liked watching Ty as he struggles with his rocky relationship with Jenna at the same time he's trying to do what he needs to do on the ice to get his team to the play-offs. It was a fun and entertaining mix. Add to that, Jenna's singing ambitions and fears, and I was really pleased with the story line of this book. Yes, it's an erotic book with all the super-hot sex that you expect, but there is so much more to this story and it made for riveting reading. I liked the dynamic between the three women: Jenna, Tara, and Liz and the way that they all bonded through their love of these sports figures. These scenes in the book were really well-done and added a lot to the book. I also really loved the way Ty was constantly pushing Jenna to go for her dreams, even when she pushed right back at him telling him to shove it. She could be really bi**hy and he would simply back off for the moment. I loved that about his character. Overall, this was a really fantastic book. I enjoyed the story and the chemistry. The characters continue to be incredibly well-developed and this series continues to stay right up there as one of my favorites. I love these sports themed Jaci Burton books. She writes them so well!!

I loved books 1 and 2 of this series, but this one really missed the mark for me. It was ok, but Jenna was completely unbelievable. What a cry baby, her oh poor me attitude was so annoying. Also, I think Jaci Burton went from trying to tell a steamy love story, to just trying to shock the reader with her excessive use of course language. The love was definitely missing from this one. I usually really like this author, maybe the next one will be better???

Jenna Riley runs the sport bar her family owns. Her big brothers are famous sport's superstars and after her dad had a heart attack last year she is the only one who can take care of Riley's.Not that she complains... much. She doesn't mind taking care of the place and running it but she is drop-dead tired of being surrounded by sports every single day of her life. And that is a lot.Every football, basketball or baseball game means that Riley's will be full packed with clients and full of players, actual players, thanks to her brothers who have turned the bar into a hot spot.No one seems to notice that Jenna wants something more except Tyler, a hockey player who has been flirting with her for the last couple of months with no success. And is not because his looks, you know? Because he sure is as hot as hell, in fact his only problem is his career... Jenna has only one rule: She will never date a guy who is into sports. But Tyler won't give up and after peeling a few of Jenna's protections layers off he discovers something: she likes to sing and compose. And she is really good at it. Without seing the problem Ty asks her THE question: why is she wasting such an awesome gift?!Which ends up with him getting tossed out of Jenna's house and the realization that he stumbled upon a secret: her family doesn't know about the music stuff and she doesn't want to speak about it. In fact, she prefers to stay where she is, unhappy.Fortunately for her Tyler is the kind of person that doesn't give up easily. And there is no way he is going to let her go when they have such good chemistry on the bed... and maybe outside too.Personal opinion:I can't get enough of the Riley family, I'm telling you. Jenna's story has been very entertaining, funny, clever and touching.I have no brother or sisters and when I read about this family I truly miss having any siblings... specially with the girl talks that Jaci creates between Jenna, Liz and Tara, they are hilarious! The way they talk, the way they are with each other and how much they trust the other is just refreshing.Jenna's fears felt real and I could relate to her situation right away while I rooted for Tyler to help her get through it. I mean, he is just an amazing guy, you know? Caring, sexy, snarky, confident... did I mention sexy? Ladies, believe me, I know I've said this before but it's true and you have to do it: get a fan before reading the book! OMG... the sex scenes? Steamy to say the least. Pure hotness, pure awesomeness and a LOT of details.Jaci's style, once again, hit the right spot and I can only say this: I'm dying to read the next book and meet Cole Riley who is Jenna, Mick and Gavin's cousin. Finally I just want to say I'm really grateful for the eARC and that, starting today, we are a month away from the publication of Taking a Shot... days can't pass faster enough!

This was another sexy romance in the the Play-by-play series. The youngest Riley - Jenna - is running the family sports bar. She is in charge since her father's heart attack. Her brothers are busy with their new loves and their sports careers and Jenna is stuck. While she loves her family, she doesn't really love the bar. Too much sports and too many athletes for her. She is determined not to have a relationship with any guy into sports. It is hard to find a guy to date since she spends all of her time in a sports bar.Tyler Anderson is new in town. He plays pro hockey. He also gets under Jenna's skin. Even with her dislike of athletes, he has something. They have a powerful chemistry which Jenna tries to deny. However, they manage to hook up at her brother Mick's wedding. She thinks it will be just a one night stand to get her need for him out of her system but Ty isn't that eager to be gotten rid of.They enter into a relationship very tentatively. He doesn't have any faith in relationships and hasn't since his parents' acrimonious divorce when he was fourteen. She doesn't want a relationship with an athlete. But they do get to know each other outside of bed too and find that they are each fascinated by the other.Jenna shares a secret with him. She sings and writes songs but has never told her family. She has a dream of opening a second Riley's that focuses on music but feels she will disappoint her family by leaving the sports bar. Ty tries to encourage her to pursue her dreams but she is afraid of failure. Her fear of going for her dreams is the thing that causes the major tension in their relationship. This was a great romance and it was wonderful catching up with Mick and Tara, Liz and Gavin and the Riley parents. It is also great seeing Jenna work through her problems and decide to go for her dreams. It was very satisfying to see two strong, stubborn people decide that their relationship was worth the fight. This was another entertaining episode in a series that has very spicy intimate scenes and also strong romance. I recommend it to those romance readers who like their stories hot.

SYNOPSIS:If you want to score, you have to get in the game...The last thing Jenna Riley needs is more sports in her life. While her brothers are off being athletic superstars, she's stuck running the family's sports bar, whether she likes it or not. Then in walks pro hockey stud Tyler Anderson. As much as Jenna would like to go to the boards with him, she's vowed to never fall for a jock-even one as hot as Ty.Ty, intrigued by the beautiful bar owner, becomes a regular. He senses that Jenna wants to do something more with her life. And as he gains her trust, the passion between them grows, as does Ty's insistence that Jenna should start living for herself. With his encouragement, Jenna starts to believe it, too...But first, Jenna has to figure out what she wants, what she needs, who she loves, and if she has the passion and pride to take a shot at having it all-including Ty...REVIEW:Jaci Burton does it again! She never ceases to amaze me with her series and/or books. I found Ms. Burton through her Wild Riders series and since then, not only has she been an inspiration for me to start my own writing, but she has had me hooked. With each and every book she publishes, I find myself unable to put it down until it¿s finished. And even then, I want more.Taking A Shot provides the right amount of buildup, comedy, drama and happy times needed in order to make any romance novel a delight. The chemistry between Ty and Jenna is hot and their stubbornness just adds to the appeal between these two.Ms. Burton provides an overall view of every aspect that leaves readers wanting more, from sports, to jokes, to family, and then the hot scenes. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something to give them their best fantasies as well as an escape from their worlds. If you want a book that will leave you smiling and as if the written characters are a real part of your life, then this is your book/series. Will give five out of five stars.

I love the smart-ass baby of the Riley family, Jenna. She doesn't take sh*t from no one and hides her real self behind snarky wit and intellectual wealth of sports statistics. Poor Jenna feels obligated to run the family business, a sports bar opened by her mom and dad. She works long hours keeping the successful bar running while dreaming of the day she can do what she wants to do.  Yes, she is lonely but after living and breathing sports all her life and with two pro athletes for brothers, Jenna is NOT looking for a man interested in sports. In walks Ty. He's gorgeous but plays professional hockey. Jenna's strict no-dating-jocks rule can't hold back Ty's advances for long. Her resolve soon crumbles and she is lost in Ty’s arms.  As Ty and Jenna lose themselves in between the sheets, their hearts get involved quickly no matter how hard these two deny it. Jenna shares her passion with Ty and he quickly throws his support behind her and encourages her to go after her dreams. Can Jenna fess up to her family about her hidden talent and future plans, or will she resolve herself to running the family business while her dreams are put on hold once again? I love Jenna! She is a little spitfire and completely loyal to her family. She loves them so much she would rather sacrifice her dreams in order for others to have theirs. I think Ty completes Jenna well. He is strong, patient and encourages the hell out of Jenna to pursue her dreams. I loved watching their story unfold and their dreams coming true.
