Tales My Grandmother Told: Stories of the Appalachian Tradition

Tales My Grandmother Told is a celebration of the Appalachian oral storytelling tradition. This collection of short stories, or tales, recounts vignettes from the wisdom and experience of the author's grandmother. The stories cover much ground: Ghosts, witches, courageous dogs, country stores, boogeymen, coal mining, and Nazi spies, to name but a few. What each story has in common is the insight of the unique perspective of a family growing together in the rural Appalachian mountains.
