About the Author

Ric Thompson was born in Belfast in 1946 of an English mother from Lancashire and the eldest son of a wealthy land owning Ulster Scots family. Both of his parents had been in the Royal Navy, but not being one for enjoying military discipline, he never felt inclined to a life in uniform.
After leaving one of England's prestigious private schools, for some perverse reason known as a Public School, he joined a large Irish Linen company as a trainee manager. He left them to become a production manager in the garment trade in Belfast where the pay was considerably better.
He worked for a year in Oporto in the north of Portugal for a Portuguese garment factory before returning to Northern Ireland and, after a few years in carpet retailing he returned to the linen manufacturing company where he had started as a management trainee to take up the position of factory manager, and after a few years realized that he was never going to become a director and make the real money.
He worked at several interesting and varied forms of self-employment, from taxi driving in Belfast at the height of the 'Troubles', through management consultancy and credit management, garden maintenance and building repair, to debt collecting in some of the tougher areas on the outskirts of the city and for relaxation started writing, something that he had been doing from schooldays, but not seriously.
He has been known to write and produce pantomimes and to write hymns.
He is the author of the acclaimed Rochfield Mystery series of books set in the fictional town of Rochfield in Yorkshire where the SS, DCI Sutherland and DI Simpson, and their team unravel murder and mayhem.
