Overview

Targeted by Kendra Elliot

A Wall Street Journal bestseller

All Detective Mason Callahan wanted was a quiet fishing trip with the guys—a chance to get away and unwind before Halloween.

Until he finds the body of his boss, Denny Schefte, near their remote Oregon cabin. Now all he wants is to catch the sadist who slit Denny’s throat and covered his face with a mask. Mason was the last person to see him alive and will stop at nothing to find his friend’s murderer.

When the FBI learns of the mask left at the scene, they realize they have a serial killer on their hands—one who is targeting cops. They assign the case to Special Agent Ava McLane, despite her engagement to Mason. Barely recovered from her own nearly fatal injury and her sister’s attempted suicide, Ava hopes she is ready to chase another killer.

But as she delves into the increasingly disturbing case, the killer may be closer than expected—dangerously close.

Det. Mason Callahan, his boss and other co-workers went to Denny's cabin for a fishing trip. The next morning Mason steps outside to drink his morning coffee there is the scent of death. Special Agent Ava McLane is assigned to the case despite her engagement to Mason. The corpse is the boss of the other police detectives that were on the fishing trip. Certain clues point to a serial killer. Is he one of the detectives? A serial killer? Or some unknown suspect? Targeted is well written, a lot of action, suspense and murder. The pacing is good. The only thing I found jarring was the language. There were cuss words thrown in that just didn't fit the scene. That stopped the flow of the storyline. That being said it could just be me. I normally review Christian fiction and non-fiction. On that note, I enjoyed the book and would definitely read more books by this author. I won this book in a contest and no one asked me to review this book. All opinions are mine and mine alone. I would have rated this a 4 1/2 but the review rating doesn't allow that. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Callahan & McLane Book Four. Danger strikes close when Mason's weekend with the guys is halted by his boss's murder. Once the detectives are cleared, Mason rides along with his FBI fiance, Ava, and the other investigators. The FBI has determined that Denny Shefte might just be the victim of a serial killer hunting law enforcement officers. Meanwhile, Ava's sister is still causing anxiety and pain from her rehab center, although her artwork is a somewhat positive sign. If you're looking for the next thrilling story in Ava and Mason's lives, this is the book for you!

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 3/4 I loving reading a book from an author from the Pacific Northwest. And what is even better is when it takes place in a town that I am very familiar with. I adore Kendra Elliot’s stories. I have loved Mason and Ava from day one. I do really wish that she would just give them a HEA and let them be....... But what fun would that be and that would just mean no more books for me. So keep throwing these two into sketchy situations. Targeted starts out in the small coastal town of Depot Bay Oregon (which I drove through right after I started reading Targeted (Add pix collage)) and everything goes to hell in a handbasket from there. What should have been a fun filled boys weekend ends with a murder investigation. With the murderer running loose in Oregon how many will die before the figure out who they are. Ms. Elliot had me on the edge of my set with wonder as to how she was going to make it all work out. There were a few teary moments that I feared the worst for a few of my favorite characters in this series. I can’t wait to see what is next in this series and beyond excited that we have a new Kendra Elliot series coming soon. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley & Montlake Romance in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

Ruthless serial murderer killing the law enforcement personnel, while Ava's twin sister is manipulating yet another set of doctors, and Mason is trying to figure out why Ava isn't ready to set the wedding date. The suspense is tight, the investigation of the criminal behind the callous murders is intriguing, and keeps the reader on toes till nearly the end. I loved how the task force put the puzzle pieces together, the teamwork is commendable, and the crime scenes atrocious, each on their own way. The tension escalated through the story, until it comes too close to home. Really enjoyed the action and suspense part of the tale, even though it did seem to be progressing slowly at times. The characters are interesting, but at times a little frustrating. There's a lot of inner inflection, from several different characters, and Mason and Ava are suppose to have this great relationship, but they are not communicating about some basic issues, like why not set the wedding date. I wish there would have been more development of their relationship in this story, now it seemed to just stay the same as before. Ava twin sister, I didn't like her before, and I wish she would just go away, as I hope will be the consequence of the events in this story. Innovative crime scenes, ghastly and cruel, action that involves the major players of the story. I hoped for more development with the characters and their relationships, but the grisly crimes saved the story, and held my interest through the book. ~ Four Spoons

"Targeted" is book #4 in Mason Callahan and Ava McClane's series. From the beginning I'm a huge fan of this incredible couple. I adore the way they are with each other, it thrills me to read their dialogues, to see how their relationship evolves to the point where they are now engaged and looking for the perfect venue for the big day. I admit, without shame, that Mason and Ava's relationship is what I most enjoy in this series. Deep down, I'm a romantic! But Mason and Ava's engagement isn't all that's interesting. The mysteries they work are always engaging and I find myself deeply emersed reading about it. In "Targeted! cops are being killed and no one has any idea why or by whom. It's disturbing, especially considering that the main characters may be targets. Ava's twin sister and her machinations also have room in this book. I really admire Ava for her compassion towards her sister after the many troubles she caused even in Ava's own house. This is a very good read and I hope Mason and Ava will return in another book, soon!

"The scent of death entered his nose," this, the first sentence in Targeted, hooked me and reeled me in to another thrilling and compelling romantic suspense by Kendra Elliot. Targeted is an edge of your seat, roller coaster ride that will have you turning pages way past your bed time. I love the characters in this series, they are so well written and given such depth that they leap off the page. If you're a fan of Hoag, Gerritsen or Slaughter you'll love Kendra Elliot! I received an eARC from NetGalley for an unbiased review.
