About the Author

Linda K. Parrish is the artist and author of H. H. Smitty, a children’s book published in 2014. A native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, she is a mom, grandma, and great-grandma. A couple of four-legged kids round out the family. She loves dabbling in wood, photography, art, and writing. Ever-present sunglasses atop her head, jeans, and bare feet are her favorite comforts. She enjoys reading and tries her hand at gardening. However, she is the first to tell you her thumb isn’t green, just coated with dirt. Poetry and short-story ideas have her keeping a pad and pencil on the nightstand for those late-night inspirations. A kid at heart, she writes so you’ll remember the kid in you.

CHAPTER 1

Oh, Teddy Bear, oh, Teddy Bear, what have you done? Sitting in the corner, sucking your thumb. I can't imagine what crime you have committed. What put you on your little chair where you're sittin'?

Did you have your hand in the cookie jar? Or did you venture out in the yard too far? Were your toys left out all over the floor? Did you get angry and slam a door?

Use your pillowcase for candy to hide? What could be the reason you're stuck inside? Did the dog eat your peas you snuck under the table? Did you reprogram the buttons on the remote for the cable?

What could you have possibly done? What brought a stop to all your fun? Did you use a whole bottle of shampoo in the bath? Should have known Mom wouldn't laugh!

Got caught putting the playdough in the dryer? Found on the countertop, trying to go higher? Tried to flush your fuzzy friend down the toilet? That could have caused you to be where you're at.

You just didn't seem like the mischief-making kind. If I look harder, what other no-nos will I find? There you sit with the smile on your face, In the corner chosen for the time-out space.

Held tight on the lap of your partner in crime, You both turn and ask if it's been enough time.
