Overview

In an effort to further his education, Joseph Golshani came to America over thirty years ago with the intent of returning to Iran, but he soon realized the tremendous opportunities that were offered him in this country. He remained in America and made a name for himself. In Thanks To America, Joseph chronicles his journey, while giving thanks to the country that provided opportunities he never dreamed possible. Along the way, Joseph shares his trials and triumphs, and his affirmative outlook with a straight-forward philosophy, and he does so with humor, humility, and grace.

"It has truly been exciting to watch Joseph over the years in his personal and professional journey. His trust in people through his leadership and mentoring exemplifies and complements every part of Joseph's life and adds meaning to everything he chooses to achieve."

Lin R. Rogers
Chairman, Rogers Electric & Holt Investments

"I am honored to have known Joseph for almost 25 years, and to be considered a part of his journey to success; I know that my late husband, Edwin Neill II, would be so proud to see what Joseph has achieved throughout his life and to know that his words are remembered by him. Joseph is a true example of someone whose success has been achieved through his belief in the positive, surrounding himself with people that contribute to who he wants to become, and his dedication to supporting others. I wish Joseph the very best and am excited to see what he will achieve next."

Debra Neill Baker
CEO, Neill Corporation

"It has been an honor to know an Iranian-American that has brought great dedication and passion to not only the beauty industry, but this country as well. Joseph has had a successful career in simply following his dreams and his heart. Knowing Joseph and watching his success has been a pleasure and privilege and I look forward to seeing all the blessings he has ahead of him."

Arsalan Hafezi
CEO & President, Modern Salon and Spa

written openly and honestly from the heart of someone who values opportunity this country offers. Interesting how our more recent legal immigrants are more loyal and appreciative of this country than those whose ancestors came generations ago. Many have forgotton the freedoms their ancestors were denied elsewhere which they pursued and found in America.

I do not get moved easily but I thought that this book by Joseph Golshani was very touching, and had many important lessons on how to approach life and embrace every aspect good and bad and learn from it. He is thoughtful and introspective and self corrects on those things he feels he has done wrong and sincerely applied the lesson and grew from it. Gratitude flowed from the pages, and this in itself is something that we should all do daily. The perspective of Americans to America is dissatisfaction and this is so short sighted when every opportunity is given to every one of us. We all know immigrants that come to America and just work, there is no ego involved, it doesn't matter if it is a convenience store, laudry, or business started in their home etc. they work and make it work, and support their family and the community by their very persistance. And low and behold, they are grateful, how rare is it for us to see our friends and family grateful for opportunity. Our country is going the way of hand-outs with everything these days, even down to healthcare (I know a sensitive subject) but the fact of the matter is that the principals of the founding fathers was the freedom to choose...we will not have freedom to choose soon, you will be told what treatments you can have, how much you can make, we will be forced to pay for treatment for someone that continues down the path of junk food, etc. and I'm not so sure but it seems like we will be told what to believe. I believe that this independent spirit of America that so many immigrants like Joseph epitomize will be gone soon. So Kudos Joseph for a job well done and for us to have the opportunity to see a different side of various cultures and how to make it work regardless of the obstacles. Thank you Joseph. Americans need to read this to understand where our freedoms will go soon.

Underlying themes Believe in yourself Grasp every opp Trust honesty integrity Forgiveness Don't let fear paralyze you seize the day Fairness as an employer promotes loyalty Culitvate and inspire employees to become the best they can be Liked the SWOT reference shows forward thinking Best part of book: Great perspective on views between Muslims and other religions. After reading you changed my perception of a muslim man. While you and I may not agree on certain religious beliefs I respect that you have faith in a higher god and that you try to live by that credo. Yoy showed there are more similarities between us than differences. We both came from humble beginnings. We both struggled with finding our way. Many failures before successes. We both needed someone to believe in us to flourish and feel the need to give back. Family is very important and we both make the best decisions possible with them in mind. Freedom is sweet and to be treasured never taken for granted. I like your kind eyes. When I look in them I see glimpses of your soul. There's so much more to you than what meets the eye. You showed the gentleness of a persian man than what is portrayed in the media everyday. You make me want to know you more. You make me want to understand your culture more. I think we are all a lot more alike than we are different. The more you open up and let others know you the greater your influence will be in bridging our differences. I feel like I've meet someone very special who will have great influence on others in the coming time.

"Thanks to America: Against All Odds" is a great idea for a book. It could be inspirational to some, being a book about immigrating to America and the endless opportunities available here--it is a book that I looked to expecting great impact. However, the flashbacks were so brief and nondescpiptive that when the "lesson learned" or moral of the story was revealed, it was actually...eh, ok. And with the countless runon sentences, past and present tense constantly being mixed up within the same paragraph, and grammatical slaughtering, it was hard to see the big picture and receive the inspiration that should have been there. In the end, what it comes down to is: I was very excited about reading this book...I wanted to read about the struggles, the "ah-ha" moments, the wonderful doors and amazing windows of opportunity America opened for this immigrant; but I had to struggle to get through the book. I had such high hopes and thought it would be really great, but it was just...not.
