The Archbishop
Daniel travels north to Stellingham to find his uncle, Ramon Salvotori, an archbishop in the church. Upon arriving, he learns that the Supreme Priest, the church's leader, has died of old age, causing the entire city to shut down out of respect. Daniel is undeterred and meets his uncle nonetheless.

After a new church leader is elected, Ramon is promoted to cardinal and Daniel discovers that his uncle's ring of office is magical, magic that can save Thalacia. War now looms on the horizon, as the kingdom's enemies begin to mobilize. A cardinal's ring of office, however, is sacred and cannot be relinquished or destroyed. There are no good answers to this dilemma which Daniel must find an answer to before it is too late.
