About the Author

Neil Bernard Dukas was born in Ontario, Canada and joined the Canadian Army as a young man. He served in both Reserve and Active capacities with the Governor General’s Horse Guards, Princess of Wales’ Own Regiment, Mobile Command Headquarters, and the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College.

Former Dean of Instruction at Heald College (Honolulu Campus), Dukas is a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the National Coalition of Independent Scholars. He graduated from Queen’s University (Ontario, Canada) with a bachelor’s degree in political studies and received a Master of Arts degree in Humanities from California State University, Dominguez Hills.

An avid hiker, conservancy advocate and horseman, Dukas continues to research and write on the military history of Hawai‘i with an emphasis on the years prior to annexation.
