Overview

Welcome to Beekman 1802, in Sharon Springs, NY--the historic home of The Fabulous Beekman Boys, Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge. Josh and Brent star in the popular show on Planet Green TV, and they have built a worldwide reputation for their goat's milk soaps and superb, artisanal Blaak cheese.

Together, Josh and Brent have created a gorgeous cookbook that is “heirloom” in every sense of the word: they showcase heirloom fruits and vegetables; offer delicious heirloom recipes from farm, family, and friends; and include a section in the back of each chapter so you can personalize the book with your own treasured recipes--and create a unique keepsake to hand down to your family.

From springtime pea pod risotto and summery strawberry shortcake to quick braised collards in autumn and yummy chicken 'n' dumplings for a snowy winter's day, this is simple yet luscious farm-fresh fare that everyone will love.

I loved the recipes in this book. The Asparagus Torte is brilliant. It's beautiful on the table and it tastes so good. It's elegant comfort food. I wouldn't expect anything less from Josh and Brent. I will use this book time and time again. The Lemon Pudding Cake is definitly a keeper. It turns out exactly as described and it melts in your mouth. Buy the book. It's well worth it.

Since everyone above me gave B&N reviews lamenting about the price of this book and not the actually content (thus affecting the rating of this book when in fact they are just complaining about the price of something, which has nothing to do with the content) I am giving the pre-order process 5 stars based on my awesomeness and my love for Poka Spot and the beekman boys. See my review also added nothing to the review process, didn't help anyone in anyway whatsoever, but I refuse to let your whining about prices bring down the rating of a book that no one has read because its still on pre-order. Also to the person who said they are using their tablet to avoid using B&N, nooks read many formats, including epub which you can find literally everywhere and most places for free. There is no reason to not use your nook just because you don't understand how it actually works.

I feel bad that people are rating this book based on Barnes and Noble prices. Through the sale price and a promo code, I was able to get this book for $10 and free shipping. It is worth having the hard copy of this book because the authors have provided beautiful pages to add family recipes, thus adding a personal touch to the cookbook. It is full of colorful pictures and wonderful recipes. If you are a fan of cookbooks, you won't be disapointed by this one.

This cookbook is a one of a kind. Recipes that I have tried are wonderful. There are areas to add heirloom recipes of your own, and an area to add notes to each recipe. It is a very unique cookbook. It's a cookbook that can be handed down from generation to generation. Instructions for each recipe are easy to follow. I love the variation section of each recipe. I learned about how to make homemade yogurt and yogurt cheese. If you are a cookbook collector, you definitely need to add it to your collection.

This book is absolutely a thing of beauty. It¿s the brainchild of those fabulous Beekman boys, Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer-Purcell, accompanied by gorgeous photos by Sandy Gluck. I¿m not much of a cookbook fan¿not that I don¿t LOVE to cook (and eat, of course), but I usually get totally overwhelmed by all of the choices that a cookbook offers. Not so with this book. The recipes are as warm and inviting as the design of the book is.I bought this book because, frankly¿I have a total crush on the Beekman boys¿particularly cute little Josh and his amazing vegetable garden XD. I also love the aspirations behind their line of books, housewares, linens and foodstuffs ¿ to create things of an heirloom quality that can be passed down for generations. Seriously¿I want EVERYTHING on their website, Beekman1802.com¿particularly the amazing fruit spoons and that picnic blanket which I just think is gorgeous. The cookbook follows in the tradition of their other goods¿it¿s an heirloom product. It¿s bound beautifully, has some of the most gorgeous food photography I¿ve ever seen, has space to add your own recipes from the family and is filled with timeless recipes that aren¿t likely to ever go out of style. Many of the recipes do have a modern twist to them, but nothing that makes it anything but a classic.I¿ve already bookmarked probably about 50 recipes and I plan on trying one a week from the cookbook starting with Dandelion Salad with Slab Bacon, Croutons, and Hot Bacon dressing. Mostly all of the recipes use exclusively things that you can harvest from your own garden or farm or find on a neighbor¿s garden or farm. Well¿living in New Orleans, I¿m stuck with what I grow in my own backyard garden and will have to go to Whole Foods for the rest :p But all of the ingredients are fresh, for the most part, not packaged things. The book has numerous vegetarian options as well and for those meat lovers, there are PLENTY of mouth watering choices to devour. I seriously can¿t wait to make their baked ham, meatloaf burgers and roasted pork loin recipes. They all sound amazing¿what am I talking about¿everything in here sounds amazing! Except for the recipes with eggs :/ I was kind of fearful when I saw the first recipe was for deviled eggs, lol. I really despise eggs¿except for in cakes. Anything you put in a cake I will basically eat :pIf you buy one cookbook this year, I¿d make it this one. It¿s definitely a thing that can be passed on through the generations and it¿s filled with recipes that are separated by season that can keep the table happy year round. Love it!

The recipes are easy to use. The cookbook makes me feel like I'm on their farm. It has beautiful pictures and places to write your own heirloom recipes. Would highly recommend it. It would make a perfect gift for someone.

Really...how hard is it to do math? The current $12.50, 50%-off price is only for a limited time; after that, the 100%, $12.99 Nook price will be significantly cheaper. I LIKE that it's going to be cheaper for my Nook. That said, I do wish we had the option of having a look at some pages beforehand, or had an idea of what sorts of recipes were inside.

I ordered this by mistake and b & n would not refund my money, even tho I contacted them right away. I can' t believe that I paid $12.00 for this!!! Terrible.
