Overview

The Blood Mirror (Lightbringer Series #4) by Brent Weeks

The fourth book in the Lightbringer series from New York Times bestseller Brent Weeks.

When does an empire fall?

The Seven Satrapies have collapsed into four-and those are falling before the White King's armies.

Gavin Guile, ex-emperor, ex-Prism, ex-galley slave, formerly the one man who might have averted war, is now lost, broken, and trapped in a prison crafted by his own hands to hold a great magical genius. But Gavin has no magic at all. Worse, in this prison, Gavin may not be alone.

Kip Guile will make a last, desperate attempt to stop the White King's growing horde. Karris White attempts to knit together an empire falling apart, helped only by her murderous and possibly treasonous father-in-law Andross Guile.

Meanwhile, Teia's new talents will find a darker use-and the cost might be too much to bear.

Together, they will fight to prevent a tainted empire from becoming something even worse.

Great book but I was disappointed by the length. It was the shortest in the series by a great ammount. Over 200 pages when you factor in the first 20 or so are a synopsis of the previous books. That being said it has its great moments, but I would classify it as the weakest book out of the 4.

I have to preface this by saying that I really do love this series, the characters, and the world as a whole. That being said, this particular installment felt utterly lackluster compared to the previous three. It felt too short, the narrative bounced around way to frequently, and most importantly it felt like nothing substantial was added to the plot. Oh sure, each of the particular threads was picked up and expanded upon for all of our favorites among the cast of characters, but the entire time it felt like this book was written to be a bridge between Black Prism and whatever comes next, to the detriment of the story at hand. I have liked the rest of the series, and would likely cite it as one of my favorite reads as a whole, but this most recent addition just doesn't feel quite up to snuff with the rest.

Short book, finished in 3 days. Stories of the main characters development progressed but didn't go very far. It also abruptly ended without any indication of what's in store for the characters. Love the seriies. While this is well written, it needs about 300 more pages to close or lead into the next volume. Many unanswered questions.

This is the only book in this series that I have felt let down at the end.

Worth the read. Not the best in the series.

As readers we were told that book 4 would be the final book in the series. Not so. There is still one more book to go. It would have been nice to have something to that effect in the beginning of the book after there was so much said by the author that it would be a 4 book series. That said, the book itself was disappointing. Even boring at times. Everything seemed dragged out where it could have been said in less. You'll still need to read it to keep up with who did what to who and who still wants to do what to whom. There are a few surprizes that come up but it was a bit of a yawner compared to his other books in the series.

I have to give it some ground. The books where good but, if this is truly the final book in this series it has failed. It brings no conclusions, it ends much to soon without a finally.

I love this series. I was unsure about them at first but now, I am glad I decided to give them a chance. While I'm reading them I can't put them down. I get nothing else done. Definitely worth the time lost though.

I have enjoyed the series so far and was really looking forward to reading this. Kip long-winded attempts to rally the troops were simply wasted text. I am probably done with this writer.
