Overview

About the Author

David Lantz was the State Director of the Indiana Christian Coalition from 1992 to 1995, and has served as a political consultant to several political campaigns for statewide office. From 1989 to 1993, he wrote and published a statewide public policy newsletter, Indiana Issues. He now publishes a monthly newsletter, Conversations with the Culture.

Mr. Lantz teaches economics, public relations and other courses as an Adjunct Professor for The University of Phoenix, Ivy Tech Community College, and Indiana Tech. In 2005, he was named Faculty of the Year by the first graduating class of the Indianapolis Campus of University of Phoenix. In addition to The Brotherhood of the Scroll,, he has self-published the sequel, "The Sword of the Scroll", as well as several non-fiction books, including "Think Like Jesus, Lead Like Moses: Leadership Lessons from the Wilderness Crucible."

An adult Sunday school teacher at his church for the last twenty years, he has had several articles published in Christian magazines such as The Lookout and Sunday Digest. While with the Christian Coalition, he gave numerous speeches on the subject of Christian involvement in politics.

Mr. Lantz holds a B.A. degree in History and Political Science from Butler University (1979). He holds a Masters Degree in Public Affairs from Indiana University (1981). He is married to his wife of 33 years, Sally, and has three children.

Mr. Lantz brought me into the Egyptian, Jewish, and Babylonian royal courts, as Babylon marches to takeover the known world. And just when you think that you know who is good and who is bad, the plot twists. As a 16 year old, I can say that everyone from teens and up will enjoy this book. And even those who are not familiar with the Bible and its Old Testament history and prophecies will find the mystery, war, love, and conflict (all mixed together and conflicting!) to be captivating.

I really enjoyed this novel. The author sets up a story of political intrigue while remaining true to the bible. I liked the idea of the three prophets Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel interacting. Most of all I liked seeing Daniel as youth. It gives the reader a way to relate to the biblical characters.

David Lantz does an outstanding job "filling the blanks" on what happened during the sixth century BC between Egypt, Babylon, Israel, and the smaller kingdoms around the area. He builds a suspense that feeds and grows around politics, espionage, religion, and even romance. The book invites you to take the Bible and read the Book of Daniel. When you do this, you will see the effort Lantz has put when originally describing what could have happened in detail.

The Brotherhood of the Scroll by David Lantz is fast, compelling reading. High drama, good dialogue, political intrigue on an international scale are just some of the qualities of a good book and this book has them all and more. Lantz fictionalizes the story of Babylon's overthrow of Jerusalem around 600 B.C.E. While Lantz takes a few allowable freedoms with the storyline he captures the essence of how difficult it was to live, love, and trust in that period of history.

I thought this was an awesome book. The book starts out giving you only hints to both sides of an intriguing plot. Then you actually find out both sides of the story and find out who is good and bad. This book takes you to some great places like Egypt, Kush, and even some Greek warriors play a big role. it is an excellent book and I can not wait for a sequel.
