“Lichtman has written what may be the most important book of the year.” —The Hill
"It is still striking to see the full argument unfold and realize that you don’t have to be a zealot to imagine some version of it happening. . . . Lies. Abuse of power. Treason. Crimes against humanity. Martial law. Lichtman throws everything Trump’s way." —Washington Post
Published to coincide with the first anniversary of Donald J. Trump’s inauguration and updated with new material and a new introduction, a paperback edition of the critically acclaimed, national bestseller that makes the case for impeaching the 45th president of the United States
In the fall of 2016, Allan Lichtman—the Distinguished Professor of History at American University who has correctly forecasted thirty years of presidential outcomes—made headlines when he predicted that Donald J. Trump would defeat Hillary Clinton, to win the presidency. In this timely, considered volume, written in clear, nonpartisan terms, Lichtman lays out the reasons Congress could remove Trump from the Oval Office: his ties to Russia before and after the election and his possible obstruction of the investigation—including firing F.B.I. Director James Comey—the complicated financial conflicts of interest at home and abroad violating the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, and his abuse of executive authority.
The Case for Impeachment also offers a fascinating look at presidential impeachment proceedings throughout American history, including those involving Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Bill Clinton. Lichtman shows how Trump exhibits many of the flaws (and more) that have doomed past presidents, and argues, with clarity and power, that for Donald Trump’s presidency, smoke has become fire. Historians, legal scholars, and politicians alike agree: we are in politically uncharted waters. The cost to the nation is high: the durability of our institutions is increasingly being undermined and the public’s confidence continues to erode, threatening American democracy itself.

I think right and left should thoughtfully read this book it is well researched with facts and the points cant be ignored
Very readable and well developed arguments and organization. But as with US separation from British Empire, impeachment will only occur if populace demands it. It's a political decision that the people must pursue to get Congress to act. Pesident Trump will burn his bridges to both parties. But GOP must sense that they should act or they may not. It will be up to the people to speak up--if that is what they feel must happen.
Everyone (no matter who you voted for) should read this book!
Genius. A very thoughtful, fascinating exploration of the history of impeachment and the 8 factors that may lead to the impeachment of Donald Trump. Allan Lichtman's ability to share the lessons of history are unparalleled. Rigorously documented. It's a great read and highly recommended.
Masterful. Allan Lichtman is one of the most distinguished political historians in the United States. Here, he takes the reader on a journey through the myriad ways that Trump could be impeached in a work that is proving more prophetic each day. Whether you are a lover of political history or a novice to the subject, this book is as informative as it is entertaining and enlightening. The first few chapters are historical in nature, they bring the reader up-to-speed on the creation and purpose of the impeachment clauses of the Constitution as well as those judges and presidents who have been subjected to them. This is not history for its own sake; along the way, readers will quickly see the parallels and relevance to the Trump administration. If you've heard the term emoluments clause recently and didn't know what to make of it, or if you see more than just a shade of Nixon in Trump, this is a book for you. Having gone through the history, Lichtman devotes the bulk of his chapters to the ways in which Trump could be impeached, with each chapter laying out a different case. From Trump's legal woes stemming from his abuse of women to his shady dealings with Russians, each of the avenues leading to impeachment is explored. Crucially, Lichtman reminds readers that impeachment is not reserved for crimes taking place in office; prior offenses, such as tax fraud, follow you. Some of what you will read may be familiar to you, but I guarantee that because of the level of research that went into this, everyone has something to learn. I suppose some readers may worry that this is all just wish-fulfillment, or some sort of diatribe against a conservative president. Both assumptions, however reasonable, are absolutely mistaken. Lichtman is a top-notch scholar – measured and considerate in his arguments and meticulous with details. His advice has been sought by liberal and conservative operators alike. Moreover, as one of the only experts in the country to correctly predict that Trump would win the election, he can hardly be accused of injecting wish fulfillment or unchecked biases into his analysis. This book, as no other does, lays out all the relevant history and contemporary facts that demonstrate the possibility of a Trump impeachment. Of course, not every argument will ring loudly with every reader, though this is irrelevant. The sheer quantity of ways in which Trump is vulnerable to impeachment will knock your socks off when you read them all together.
The Case for Impeachment by Allan J. Lichtman is a book filled with rich information. He is the one that has predicted the last several presidential election results correctly including Trump. He also predicted that Trump would be impeached before his term would be up pointing to Trump's past behavior. The first part of the book briefly explains how the law came about and why. It then goes into the history of judges and Presidents that have had that law used on them and why. Then the juicy part...some of the laws now that can make a President be impeached. I didn't know they could be impeached for crimes they committed BEFORE they were President. The book goes into all the corrupt dealings of Trump over the years, I have followed and read a lot but boy this really lays it out. This book was put out in April of this year and none of the really top corruption is in it. He will have to add an update! I really learned a lot about our legal system. Good and bad. May it work properly for us all.
This book clearly states the reasons our 45th POTUS will be impeached. First gives a little history for perspective and then starts listing the many problems and chaos in the current White House. Allan Lichtman summarizes our current political crisis in phrases and thoughts that ANYONE can understand. Prophetic!
