The Christmas Cottage by Samantha Chase, Stephanie Willis

Any couple who spends the night in the Christmas cottage shall have love everlasting.…

Lacey Quinn did not believe in happily ever after or the legend of the Christmas cottage. As maid of honor for her best friend, Ava, her duties included decorating the cottage for the newlyweds. It was a simple enough task, but she hadn't counted on sexy Ean Callahan, the bride-to-be's brother, assisting her. Spending the evening ensconced in the overly romantic setting while a blizzard howls outside has Lacey wondering if fairy tales really do come true.…

About the Author

New York Times and USA Today Bestseller/contemporary romance writer Samantha Chase released her debut novel, Jordan's Return, in November 2011. Although she waited until she was in her 40's to publish for the first time, writing has been a lifelong passion. Her motivation to take that step was her students: teaching creative writing to elementary age students all the way up through high school and encouraging those students to follow their writing dreams gave Samantha the confidence to take that step as well.

Her second book, a holiday novella titled "The Christmas Cottage" hit #10 on Amazon's Overall Best Seller List on Christmas Eve. It was a great Christmas gift! Watching the numbers rise and fall is a daily roller coaster ride but definitely an exciting one! And on February 25th, she released the follow up novella - "Ever After".

In March 2013, "The Christmas Cottage" was nominated for two Indie Romance Convention Award - Best Indie Romance Novella and Best Indie Contemporary Romance while Samantha was nominated for Indie Author of the Year! In August 2013, the video trailer for "Wait for Me" won an Oscar for Indie Author Book Trailer!

More titles quickly followed: "Catering to the CEO", "Wait for Me" (Montgomery Brothers book 1), "Trust in Me" (Montgomery Brothers book 2), "In the Eye of the Storm", and "Stay With Me" (Montgomery Brothers book 3) which hit the USA Today bestseller list in it's debut week! "Catering to the CEO" was included in the romance bundle "Loving the CEO" - a five-book package - that made the New York Times and the USA Today Bestseller list.

When she's not working on a new story, she spends her time reading contemporary romances, blogging, playing way too many games of Scrabble on Facebook and spending time with her husband of 24 years and their two sons in North Carolina.

The Christmas Cottage by Samantha Chase The Christmas Cottage was extremely enjoyable to read and was difficult to put down.  It was easy to get involved with the interesting plot and modern characters.  It was fascinating and almost magical. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good romance novel.

I love holiday romances and the Christmas Cottage is a sweet story that is perfect for this time of year. It grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. Quick witted characters and a wonderful love story make this a perfect holiday read!

COMPLAINTS: Amateurish writing-- POV switches are random and distracting SLOW start Grammatical errors and misspellings are abundant Emotional responses are missing-- characters simply don't respond Overused cliches Misuse of possessives (should've been plural) Characters had weak motivation, weak goals, made it really hard to care! Poor formatting-- no section/page breaks between chapters Story could have been so cute! Two stars. Cannot recommend. Wish I could get my money AND my time back.

I'm very happy I stumbled across Samantha Chase's books. They are anything but disappointing! It took 12 years for Ean and Lacey to come together, but they finally did it and the web that Ms. Chase wove while bringing them together was fun and delightful! I immediately purchased the next book, Ever After, and am finding it just as hard to put down. Great short story (around 100 pages)!

It always seems like the pages differ depending on your device. On my IPad mini, it was about 90 pages. Ava was annoying as hell and I have no idea why Lacey would ever be friends with her. Taking her out of the picture, Lacey's story of her long time crush on her best friend's brother was typical. The ending was abrupt and downright unbelievable. Cute, quick read at best

While the story was OK, it was very predictable. There were numerous spelling, grammar & sentence structure issues. All these errors took away from the enjoyment of the book. Should have been more carefully edited. Needed a proof-reader to go over this one prior to publishing. For all of the above reasons, only gave it 3 stars.

Favorite Quotes: Ava shot her a sharp glance. ‘A girl only gets married once,’ she said emphatically before adding, ‘Hopefully.’ Mason doesn’t want to wait. He’s thirty-two, and apparently his biological clock is ticking. My Review: The Christmas Cottage was a quick, sweet, and satisfying read with relatable characters and amusing visuals. Lacey’s best friend Ava had always been a bit of a drama llama, although in planning her upcoming wedding Ava has turned into Bridezilla. Part of Lacey’s maid of honor duties included preparing the family mountain cottage for Ava’s wedding night, which as family tradition dictated, was to take place on Christmas Eve. Lacey was hanging tough trying to appease the high-strung bride to be, but near her wits end when Ava informed her that her brother Ean would be returning for the wedding. Ean being the object of Lacey’s unrequited teenage crush and the unfortunate participant of the most humiliating moment of Lacey’s life, she had thrown herself at him at the age of fourteen to his abject horror. Oops. Lacey had successfully avoided running into him for twelve years, but her luck has just run out. The storyline was light and entertaining and tame enough to recommend to my elderly mother’s book club.

I actually read The Christmas Cottage after reading Ever After, the book that was supposed to come second. It didn't take anything away from the beauty of Ean and Lacey's love story. Watching Lacey fight the fairy tale power of the cottage, while Ava wanted nothing more than to have that power to save her pending marriage, had me feverishly turning the pages to find out what would happen. This was a beautiful story and once again confirmed my love for Samantha Chase's books. It was a terrific read, made extra special since I read it over my Christmas holiday.

Happily Ever After This is the first book by Samantha Chase that I've read and it was definitely a quick, wintry adventure built on the romantic fairy tale history attached to a special cabin in the woods behind the Callahan ranch. The story goes that a Christmas Eve wedding followed by the honeymoon within this special 'Christmas Cottage' ensures a wonderful, happy marriage. Or so Ava believes. The last thing Ava's best friend, Lacey Quinn, wants is to have to face Ean Callahan, Ava's brother, after the humiliating rejection 12 years ago when she told him she loved him and he pushed her away. She had just been 14 and Ean was heading off to college but she had a huge crush on him and even now couldn't spark an interest in anyone else. When she learns that Ava's fiancé's best man has opted out and Ean will take his place, and that the maid of honour (Lacey) and the best man traditionally have the task of preparing the family Christmas cottage for the bride and groom, Lacey is totally panicked. Determined to get her part of it done ahead of time so she won't have to work with Ean, she heads off to the ranch to look over the situation and get organized. Meanwhile, Ean has been building his extremely successful business in Boston for the last 8 years and is desperate for a break. Without telling the family, he, too, heads to the ranch for a little peace and quiet so he can determine his next challenge. Snowstorm ensues, Ean goes to investigate the lights at the cottage, and he and Lacey become snowed in. Back in Raleigh, Ava is finding that she and Mason aren't on the same page as far as their future goes. While she is totally into the family fairy tale's promise that marrying Christmas Eve and spending the wedding night in the Christmas cottage ensures a 'happily ever after', she realizes that she's making compromise after compromise about things she's planned for and worked hard for: her degree in library sciences, putting it to use before having children, even her honeymoon destination. Lacey wonders if they'll make it to the altar. Or even if they should! Don't want to give too much of the plot away, so suffice it to say, make some hot cocoa, curl up with a blanket in front of the fire, and enjoy a quick romantic read complete with snow, Christmas wreaths, twinkling lights, and a 'happy ever after'!

A wonderfully touching story of love finally realized. Lacy Quinn has loved Ean Callahan since she was 14 years old. He was her best friends older brother and he rejected her after she declared that love to him. Now 12 years later Lacy and Ean are forced to work together on his sister Ava' s wedding wish. Their project is getting the Christmas Cottage ready for the wedding night. A magical place that legend says insures everlasting love for the couple that there. Will it's magic weave itself around Lacy and Ean when they get stranded there during a snowstorm?

A warm and feel good read with Lacey being in love with her best friend's brother for years. Ean coming back early for Christmas and reevaluating his life. I had to grit my teeth on Lacey's best friend Ava and her wedding. She was annoying, but the story focused on Lacey and Ean. Lacey has waited a long time for Ean, since she has been in love with him since she was fourteen. It was a short, sweet Christmas story that I would recommend for any age.

Reviewed by Angie Book purchased by the reviewer for pleasure Review originally posted at Romancing the Book The Christmas Cottage is definitely one of those books that you can not judge by it’s cover; it may not be the prettiest, but the story that lies between the covers is one you won’t forget any time soon. I agree with some of the reviews that I have read that this could have benefited from an extra proofreading {or an extra set of eyes} to go over the few grammatical and punctuation errors. While these errors didn’t technically take away from the story per se, I did find myself skipping back to be sure that I had read the previous sentence correctly. Ava is a spoiled brat, that is obvious right off the bat. Not only is she spoiled, but she’s turning into one major bridezilla! She has a BINDER that has seventeen SECTIONS that she wants Lacey, her best friend and interior decorator, to go through and decorate the ancestral cottage in the gorgeous North Carolina mountains for her wedding to man she’s not dated for very long and who has never heard of the word compromise in his life. Lacey is a likeable character who will go the extra mile for her friend, even though she doesn’t think Ava is making the right choice. You just know that Lacey is the type who will go the extra mile for a friend or family member; but forget it where the opposite sex is concerned. Ean I fell for pretty much at first mention. While he’s pretty much turned his back on his family, he really grows through the story and learns to fight for what he wants. I giggled when he first saw Lacey again, though it was probably not meant to be comedic at all. Though this is fairly quick read, it was extremely enjoyable and something you can read in just a few hours. It made me long for Christmas and will probably be read again when winter comes around again. I also can’t wait to read the second story soon. This is a clean read for the most part. There are mentions of kisses and allusions to intimacy, but it’s done behind closed doors.

I love Christmas reads.   We all need a bit of magic, peace and love in our world and it seems to me that Christmas related stories, be they short stories or full fledged novels, somehow fit the bill.   Chase's, The Christmas Cottage,  was an enchanting tale.  Lacey Quinn at the ripe old age of fourteen had declared her love for Ean Callahan and experienced a humiliating rejection from the young man who was college bound and determined to make a success of his life.   Oh my, how I could relate to Lacey's feelings of awkwardness as she was thrust into a reunion of sorts with this "man of her dreams".   And yet, the timing was perhaps better this time around? These characters were hilarious, from Ava, the bride to be's, belief in this Christmas Cottage and the magical longevity of the relationships formed upon the newlyweds honeymoon night spent in the cottage, to Lacey's practicality and Ean's realization that work wasn't the end all, be all he had held so dear.   The characters were strong and real and Chase was able to make you feel what they were experiencing. The story itself flowed smoothly and fluently, drawing the reader in to a  love story that was fast paced, rich in history and desire and dreams worth coming true.   For this reader it was well worth the loss of sleep to read to my heart's content from start to finish and end with a heartfelt sigh.

I enjoyed reading the story on my color nook because it was a short story and I was reading it before Christmas. I liked the interaction of the characters.

I wasn't sure what I was expecting from this book. It was a nice enjoyable and quick read, but I felt it was missing something, just couldn't quite place what it was. I guess you would enjoy reading it in front of a fire with a cup of hot chocolate and a blanket!
