The Darkest Promise: A Dark, Demonic Paranormal Romance by Gena Showalter

New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter returns with a sizzling Lords of the Underworld story about an iron-willed sovereign and the somber beauty who melts him with a glance…

Possessed by the demon of Misery, Cameo isn’t allowed to experience joy. If she dares, her memory is wiped clean. With no other recourse, she sneaks into a land more fantastical than any fairy tale, determined to find the one man with the key to her redemption.

Lazarus the Cruel and Unusual rules his kingdom with a single unwavering focus: to build his army and annihilate his enemies. Nothing distracts him—until Cameo. He is relentless in his quest to make her smile…and seduce her into his bed.

As dark forces conspire against them, threatening to destroy the fragile bond they’ve forged, the once-calm Lazarus grows crazed. Every heart-stopping kiss and wicked touch causes Cameo to teeter on the brink of happiness. But if she falls, she risks forgetting him forever…

I love all of the Lord's, but have always had a special place in my heart for Cameo. I have also been drawn to Lazurus since he was first introduced. I love all of these books, but they have now become my favorite couple!!

I've been dying for Cameos story since I started his series and Ms showalter did not disappoint. I won't go into details but I think it was pretty amazing and read it in 12 hours. I hope others enjoyed it as much.

After Kane's story I was a bit disappointed. G.S writing had been compeltely different for that book as well as Pari's book. But this one felt like not alot had changed. There are some differences in the style of writing but it still has enough of the same style from the first couple of books of the series to make it a really good book. I was not disappointed and I do recommend this book.

I officially have a new book boyfriend and his name is Lazarus!   I purchased this book when it first came out but didn’t get to it right away, then I decided to buy the audiobook.  Which is quickly becoming my favorite way to enjoy books.  I am ready to listen again, I loved it that much!  Max Bellmore was superb.   The Darkest Promise is EVERYTHING!  Funny, exciting, passionate, and I didn’t want it to stop.  Gena’s wit is unsurpassed! “Her pain was so strong, so shrill she could almost understand a man’s suffering when he had a cold.” Yep, that’s in chapter one and I spit coffee when I heard that.  This novel made me laugh so much.  I didn’t think that was possible, especially considering the story revolved around Cameo, the keeper of sorrow.  But laugh I did.  I loved every minute of the story and Lazarus is the dream hero, Arrogant, possessive, protective and loyal, and let's not forget alpha to his very core.  I LOVED him.  He and Cameo were perfect together.   What I can’t wait for now is Viola’s story, I really hope we get that next.  Because she is awesome. I am rating The Darkest Promise 5 Huge Boundless stars, I absolutely loved it.

Gena Showalter’s THE DARKEST PROMISE is an excellent addition to the Lords of the Underworld series. Immortal, Cameo, is possessed by the demon of Misery. Any time she acquires a joyful memory the demon steals it away. Everyone who is around her feels dread, except for, Lazarus the Cruel and Unusual. Lazarus wants Misery, but if she allows herself to be happy, she’ll end up forgetting. This contemporary PNR is suitable for adult audiences. Gena Showalter continues to do a fabulous job with her character development. I’ve always felt bad for Misery. I feel that her and Torin has two of the worst demons. Not that being possessed by any demon would be pleasant. I like that Lazarus is persistent and unaffected by Cameo’s demon. His gift for reading minds is a plus. I like that Misery’s godchildren, Urban and Ever, were in this story. I also, appreciate Viola, keeper of Narcissism, presence. She is good for a laugh. The plot was clever and well executed. There was a lot of action and interesting twists. The Lords of the Underworld series continues to be thrilling and feel original. After thirteen books, I still can’t get enough of this series and look forward to continuing following it. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Cameo deserved her happily ever after!

As always another great read from the Lords of the Underworld. However, I wish there was a bit more there for the ending; it felt very rushed. I didn't get to enjoy the results of very end, it would have been amazing to see a day or two after they reunited versus being met with a quick happy ending. But all in all I love the book and highly recommend to all.
