I have not read any vampire fiction and I still found this book both accessible and entertaining. The Dracula Journals: Dark Decades is, as you may have suspected, written journal-entry-style. Several different characters record the story and their differing voices/perspectives are expertly done. It’s a page-turner with some definitively creepy moments. My only gripe is that I don't have Volume 2 yet!

What happens when you receive an old, dusty chest full of Dracula’s original writings? Not-Really-A-Spoiler: Things get creepy. The Van Helsing boys are living in vivid prohibition-era America but the Dracula Journals also transports you to Dracula's homeland where his story began. This is a fast-paced horror-adventure for people who like suspense. Double check that you, yourself, don’t get too sucked into the story! (pun intended)

Dark Decades is about the American Van Helsing brothers (yes, some relation to Abraham Van Helsing) and their part of Dracula's story. The journal style narration gives the reader a look inside the minds of several different characters and still keeps the pace up and the action coming. This was an immersive and entertaining journey.
