Inspired by Nietzsche's brand, the existentialists took over in the 1900s. Heidegger focused on phenomenology, Sartre on defining essence, and Camus on absurdity. They all recognized the need to create meaning in an otherwise meaningless world. Before long, these themes popped up in art, movies, songs, and every aspect of pop culture. It was everywhere, but were existentialists right about the meaning of life? Time will tell.
