This is the fascinating story of Captain William Duncan, who was born 07/20/1840 in Scotland, near Edinburgh. He came to North America by way of Canada, then settled in Elgin, Illinois. In 1860 he graduated from Elgin Academy and shortly thereafter enlisted to serve in the Thirty Sixth Illinois Infantry of the Union Army.
