4.5 stars Great writing, great action, great characters, great plot…. Overall a terrific read that I feel really opened my eyes to the seedy underbelly of corruption on every level as it permeates our political system from different perspectives but also what people are capable of. I admit this isn’t really my normal genre of reading, but the sample pulled me in and I was totally swept away by the fast rhythm, great dialogue, and brisk pacing. The shorter chapters made it seem even that much more ‘intense’. This isn’t a nonfiction book, but there is enough truth in here to give you pause. I thought the writing was descriptive and the characters (especially Duncan Stone) really helped bring the story to life in a relatable way. Word of suggestion – use the glossary provided at the end because there are a lot of terms/jargon that might throw you off if you aren’t familiar with it. I can totally see this book as being a movie. Recommend for adults only as there are some graphic and shocking scenes.

there is much to be said about a novel that just reads well. I've mentioned this before in other reviews I’ve written, but a book that keeps you reading long after you plan on putting it down ranks high for me. Not only is it entertaining, but you look forward to getting back into the book each and every time you pick it up, if you have the self-control to ever put it down. That is what reading this book “The GreenSeed Conspiracy” has done for me. Typical of much of the political fiction I’ve read, it has much in the way of grittiness and high-stakes political maneuverings, yet it remains inventive. With twists and turns, you won't know who… or what… to believe and trust. The plot moved quickly and even though some traditional thriller archetypes show up, it is not in the usual way, which is refreshing. There only a few parts where I was confused but really nothing that hindered my enjoyment any. A very strong effort by Philip Benz, and I will be looking forward to reading more from him in the future. Recommend for adult readers of techno-thrillers/action/adventure

4 1/2 stars "The GreenSeed Conspiracy” is a great piece of action/political/ suspense/ thriller fiction no one should miss reading if they are looking for an adventurous, entertaining read that has high tension and an unpredictable, yet believable, plot… If you're looking for a work that is completely original and lacking in cliché then I must say that you might have a bone to pick with this, as there were many ‘familiar’ elements that made me almost feel at times that I had read it before (I haven’t). But I believe the author's job is not to be completely original (for is there such a thing as true originality, especially in the political adventure game?) here but rather to tell a powerful, authentic story that stays with you. For I believe that the true future for the genre lies not in becoming ‘newer’ but rather by taking old tropes and telling them better. This is done nicely here and I am impressed with the way that Philip Benz can tell a story in his own way with characters that we love, or love to hate. I looked forward to my reading time each evening and was a bit disappointed when it was over. This appears to be a standalone novel (not part of a series), but I for one hope he delivers more on the same vein.

No lack of explosive drama here! Try and be bored reading this… just try. I dare ya! But seriously, this was one roller coaster ride that I was not expecting. It’s a fast read, one I finished in just a few settings, and the brisk narrative is perfect tempo for a book of this genre. Mr. Benz uses great word economy and doesn’t bore us with too many unnecessary details. Fast, focused, and to the point, “The GreenSeed Conspiracy” is a frighteningly realistic look at what happens in our country and how corrupt and unethical many political entities and people can be. It’s all just a big game, and one that is fascinating, and somewhat depressing to read because it is clear that much of this is all too real, even though this book is supposedly ‘fiction’. Riveting and addicting, this is sure to please fans of political thrillers and spec fiction.

I thought “The GreenSeed Conspiracy” by Philip Benz to be very good—excellent writing and a compelling, realistic, frightening plot set against a familiar background. I like the fact that it is a fully-realized political thriller, action adventure without all the bloat that can sometimes weigh down a complex book like this one. Benz fills you in as we go without getting bogged down in describing every last thing, but still maintains great character and plot integrity. The story moves forward and you can't help but get sucked into Benz’s strong narrative, and liked the way the dialogue sounded authentic and natural. And I haven't even begun to talk about the characters, which were fully fleshed out and move the story forward nicely. Some similar themes and motifs found in political thriller/suspense lore, but Benz does a fantastic job of putting his own unique spin on them. Recommend for mature fans of action/thrillers with a realistic angle.

First, I have to say that I don’t normally read books like this, but I do like action movies and the concept of genetic engineering has always intrigued me, and the various ways it could potentially be used (or misused). But even though I was a bit unsure about reading this novel, color me impressed!! I wasn’t surprised to read that this book is receiving such glowing reviews and acclaim. There is such strong, vivid writing, and the characters are all fascinating, flawed, and going through their own problems. Stone is a total badass (can I say that?) and everything just felt “authentic” for lack of a better word. Dialogue, interactions, scenes, descriptions…some parts admittedly over my head in terms of the tech speak, but there is a handy glossary at the back of the book. There are some cringe-worth moments, so don’t be a prude or squeamish, but it is all part of the context and not gratuitous. Near flawless editing and perfect pacing. All in all a very good read that I’d recommend even to those who don’t normally read this sort of thing…try it, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

I was hooked from the first pages of “The GreenSeed Conspiracy” and my interest never faded for a moment! I loved the creative and strong characters and plots that continued to build with tension and shock and surprise. Just when you think you know what’s happening, something comes along to throw a wrench in it. This is good because I hate books that are super predictable. And this one isn’t. Although there are some familiar themes and tropes at play, and you will recognize some ‘real life’ elements, Philip Benz brings a fresh attitude and literary style and makes it all his own and doesn’t just rehash same old tired plotlines. I’ve read a ton of political-action thrillers & suspense over the years so I’m rarely surprised by anything anymore but I can say that this author managed to do it. I appreciated the brisk pace and the descriptive details that really brought the story to life – authentic world building (and character development) is absolutely crucial in selling a believable story and it is done quite nicely here… Recommend for anyone (adults) who enjoy a well-written, action packed, true-to-life political thriller with unexpected twists that will make you think…

3.5 stars It took me some time to get into this book, and at first I wasn’t really sure where it was going as much of the action and terminology was over my head and a bit overwhelming at times. But the more I read the more I got into it, the more wrapped up I got in this world and characters Philip Benz created. It’s weird to think it’s actually fiction as parts really seem real, and are relatable to current times. I have a feeling that this book and the characters and their fates will stay with me for some time. I thought the overall plot and narration was good, but sometimes I wondered where the focus was (especially more toward the first half of the book), and in my opinion the ending seemed strangely anticlimactic… It’d didn’t ruin the book, but was just a bit flat for me. Nevertheless I look forward to reading more from Mr. Benz in the future as he is truly a gifted storyteller AND writer (not necessarily the same thing…(

lately I’ve been in a rut of putting down books and not picking them up again because I lost interest at one point and just never continued. This was definitely not the case with this book, “The GreenSeed Conspiracy” by Philip Benz! From the very beginning of the book we are drawn into the political underworld and the action flowed seamlessly from one page to the next, and was unpredictable and shocking enough to make me just *have* to see what would happen next. Not formulaic or cookie-cutter at all, even though there are plenty of standard themes necessary for a political action thriller. Liked Stone a lot- thought he made a great lead but also the rest of the (large) supporting cast was great as well. I was impressed with Benz’s writing style and will look for more works from him in the future.

Awesome. Once I started reading “The GreenSeed Conspiracy” I didn’t want to put it down until I’d finished. Seemed never a good place just to stop for a while as the action continued to build and build. Some ‘not too far out there’ scenarios that come to life, in a way that makes you wonder what is really going on behind the scenes, and just how much corruption and shenanigans affect every level of life and politics without us even being aware. I personally feel that there could have been a bit more depth to some of the characters, and some scenes seemed a bit too rushed. Liked the ending, though, and didn’t expect some things to happen that did. For those who enjoy drama and high-stakes action thrillers with complex, intelligent storylines than this is a good one for you.

whoa,… what an insane book! Holy bananas!! Okay, I don’t even know where to begin because so much happens and I don’t want to give anything away… “The GreenSeed Conspiracy” by author Philip Benz is one of the most original and just flat-out interesting thriller fiction novels I’ve ever read. I liked it for so many different reasons, first the writing was stellar. The strong word choice and fluid, fast-paced narrative and witty dialogue makes it a very easy book to sink into. There are enough descriptions where you can picture everything perfectly, but not so much that it bogs down the pacing. Because of the overarching storylines relating to real events (or frighteningly plausible hypotheticals) it just felt more “intelligent” than I expected and extremely relevant to today’s political landscape. It makes you think a bit what’s really going on, and worse – what could possibly happen. Recommend for fans of political thriller/suspense. Adults only.

Operation Fajita Wow! This fast paced well-researched book is a breathe of fresh air to read. I really enjoyed the plot. The GreenSeed Conspiracy, a great story idea that reflects reality with a constant sprinkling of sarcasm and truth that is shaken not stirred. As a former M16 packing government owned killing machine, I can totally appreciate the author's clarity and correctness in weapon nomenclature, which gave the story an element of believability and familiarity. Without giving up the plot, I highly recommend this book to those of us who know to much and to those who want to know. The reality of issues disclosed throughout this story, like clandestine government secrets regarding gene mutation and human experimentation, plus the true fact that aerosol cheese only contains 51% real cheese attests to the author's dedication to bringing his readers a well-developed story based on just enough truth to draw you in and keep you turning pages. I loved the characters, especially the lead played by STONE a hardcore, no prisoners kind of guy, that makes a mean sandwich, can take a bullet and tell you the caliber of the projectile that entered his body. Thank you for this sad, hilarious read that made me cry while laughing my gluteus maximus off. And thank you for your dedication to those who serve the government but not necessarily our country. I would love to see the movie cast with "The Rock" as the lead character Stone. As you were! We are Semper FI, do or die!

Title: Hot Shots and Gun Shots “The GreenSeed Conspiracy” by Philip Benz Reviewed by B. Smart 5/25/16 1:36 p.m. Duncan Stone is the perfect soldier. He’s a straight shooter and a team player—one of the good guys. Stone works for the government and does everything he’s told—until one day when he fails a critical mission which results in him getting stuck with guard duty at an old warehouse. Later, he’s given the chance to prove himself in order to get back in the ring. However, after discovering the unscrupulousness of the side he’s on, Stone decides to go up against the one body he swore he’d protect. The GreenSeed Conspiracy is about one man’s uphill battle against a powerful, corrupt government that negotiates with ruthless gangs to fight terrorism at any cost. Author Philip Benz makes the reader feel as though they are a part of a real live action movie; his prose is gripping, visceral, and tantalizing. The novel has an exceptional storyline and fascinating characters that struggle with obeying morally questionable orders from their superiors and listening to what their guts tell them. Benz makes the reader question the lengths the characters go to complete their missions and follow commands, leaving the reader to imagine real-world implications. The novel suggests that choosing between one’s country and one’s principles is never an easy or a simple choice. The GreenSeed Conspiracy, while engaging and stimulating, weakens in momentum near the second half. It has a lot of potential, but loses the reader due to the excessive third person point of view jumping. As a result, the reader forgoes attachment to several key characters and is indifferent to their respective fates. Furthermore, the novel is over loaded with military jargon and exhaustive detail about the weapons used which may be unappealing to some readers. Horrifyingly grisly at some points and extremely explicit, this novel is not for the faint of heart. Nevertheless, it’s an enjoyable read with an interesting enough plot. Fans of The Running Man or Brave New World will love this novel. I give “The GreenSeed Conspiracy” 3 out of 5 stars. Cheers, B. Smart
