Martin Luther and John Calvin were in total agreement on one thing: the need for reform in the Catholic Church. But the two and their followers had substantial disagreements over their own doctrines.

It is also sometimes styled the Palatinate Catechism, from the territory (the Palatinate) of the prince (Frederick III) under whom it was prepared.
